Are We Wired to Cheat? The Science Behind Infidelity

The guys at Science ASAP have created another very interesting video. This one looks at whether we humans are biologically set up to cheat on our romantic partner.
They start by pointing out that only 3% of all mammals (that’s our group!) are monogamous, and then share lots of interesting statistics on what brain factors and other markers make a human more likely to cheat on a partner.
My only issue with this video is that it blurs the lines as it equates cheating and non-monogamy. These two things are not the same, as there are many lifestyle options that include the possibility of a human having multiple love and sexual partners without any duplicity.
In other words, this video ignores the existence polyamory and open relationships.
Still, it’s interesting, factual stuff and may help you understand yourself or your partner better.

Hi! Whoever is reading this, I understand how rough things are right now. I just want to let you know that things will get better, I promise. Keep holding on just a little bit longer. I know you feel like nobody really cares. You’re wrong, stop denying it. I care, otherwise I wouldn’t be writing this. You’re not alone, we may be miles away but we’re all going through the same things. Please keep holding on

No, we are not wired to cheat, human are reactionaries, and they react according to their envoiurment , plus info , we are also a frequency , 8 out of 10 alcoholic and drug users started out by being social and at times encouraged, it`s the same as cheating…most importantly, humans do not use their mind, the mind uses them….I stand corrected…

Blaming biology is just a big fat excuse to not develop selfcontrol.

  6.' Daniel Cox says:

We are mammals, close to primates. Yes, multiple partners is normal.

    •' David Thrasher says:

I agree with u…Look at the animals, why do we forget we are animals..?

    •' Daniel Cox says:

David Thrasher, part of the animal kingdom. Mammals, but we are different in that we have various cultural and subcultures that have many different beliefs, ethics and values. Sexual identity behaviors are a part of that .

  7.' Jessica Teresa Jones says:

    Don’t make excuses

  8.' Alice Roark says:

No we are not wired to cheat……humans are greedy and want what they can’t have …….cheaters have a choice! If you want multiple partners don’t get married and be up front and honest……..self control is needed……cheaters all have other issues going on

  9.' Patricia Brown says:

    Men are definitely! Lol!

  10.' Darby Elyse says:

No other mammal is monogamous. Do you think it’s odd we are the only?

  11.' Andrew Gillespie says:

You can be single and date multiple people, sleep with multiple people. There is a difference when you enter a relationship that is agreed to be exclusive, then go behind the persons back. That is a concious decision. A person thinks, then acts. Unless you aren’t evolved enough yet to make a concious choice

  12.' David Thrasher says:

…it’s not cheating , it’s the freedom to truly love others without the fear of religious guilt….

  13.' Alix ON says:

Cheating is unacceptable even if it is normal.

  14.' Cecilia Rodriguez says:

Cheating is for shallow, narrow minded people, if people start comparing themselves with animals, then humanity is not civil and we all have wasted our time thinking about how great we are.

  15.' Tieluj Orainos says:

    True simply a choice

  16.' Steven Lewanski says:

No, we are not wired to be assholes

  18.' Jared Ó Súilleabháin says:

    so much stupid.

  19.' Luke Jack Llewellyn says:

I think it depends on how much you care about Someone. If you truly love someone and want to spend the rest of your life with them. Then you would never cheat on them.

  20.' Deseree Marshall says:

Its called self control… and that comes with wisdom and morality.

  21.' Alex Crofford says:

Lack of self awareness, coupled with emptiness…then, victim mentality to ease the pain of shame. Stand up for those who are REAL victims in this world. Part of that is not creating innocent bystandered ones yourself by recklessly giving into the greed of your own desires. Don’t hurt people only so that you feel good.

  22.' Susanne Beck says:

It is a choice, if you rise above and make the choice to be in a relationship do what it takes make it a long lasting loving relationship to last. So many men think that is what they want but really they want is to use women to fulfill their needs and move on. As everyone knows Women and Men think differently we all have the same goals or at least most of us do. To relationship that is honest, loving, and caring. Yes this can happen it is a choice and you need to choose to rise yourself to this level.

  23.' Mandy Wang says:

    Once a cheater, always a cheater .

  24.' Deanna Hasan says:

    Interesting but it’s a choice
