We Can Now Edit Our DNA (with CRISPR-Cas9), So How Can We Do It Wisely?

Geneticist Jennifer Doudna co-invented a groundbreaking new technology for editing genes, called CRISPR-Cas9. The tool allows scientists to make precise edits to DNA strands, which could lead to treatments for genetic diseases … but could also be used to create so-called “designer babies.” Doudna reviews how CRISPR-Cas9 works — and asks the scientific community to pause and discuss the ethics of this new tool.

  1.' Josh Hayward says:

We do it wisely by targeting specific genes and thinking in binary terms, 0, 1 = off, on.

We can deactivate most negatives while accentuating and activating the positive parts of our makeup, including activation of locked codons that brings us all closer to source and spiritual/physical evolution.

I’m sure big pharma is dying to find a way to end disease. It’ll be great for business.

  3.' James P Moon says:

Just because we can doesn’t mean we should.
All we have to do is stop poisoning the earth and implement a system of positive eugenics and 99% of disease could be eliminated within 3 generations. Selective breeding is the answer, not genetic modifications

This will only be offered to the super elite who can pay for their edited children to become the new super elite. If they wanted to rid the world of diseases they should just look at the Rife Machine made by Dr. Royal Raymond Rife in 1934 – before he was murdered. “The Rife machine destroys infectious organisms, viruses, bacteria and fungus and has been used to eliminate 52 different microorganisms including cancer, tuberculosis, strep and leprosy.”

There are entire military universities dedicated to weaponising anything they can get their hands on, so I’m guessing the wrong reasons is a likely use.

Humankind has made huge strides in science and other fields these last few years. We are now gaining the capacity to be co-creators with the Creative Intelligence and to enter into “conscious evolution.” Now comes the question, “have we progressed equally in our capacity to be morally responsible for such vast information and powerful energy?”
