Renowned activist and author Michael Pollan reveals the truth about how McDonald’s fries are made. Pollan illustrates how McDonald’s insists on using Russet Burbank Potatoes, a potato in America that is unusually long and difficult to grow. They further insist that their potatoes have no blemishes at all, which is hard because these potatoes commonly suffer from what is referred to as Net Necrosis, which causes unwanted spots and lines on the potatoes. If they have this, McDonald’s won’t buy them and the only way to eliminate this is through the use of a pesticide called methamidophos (Monitor) “that is so toxic that the farmers who grow these potatoes in Idaho won’t venture outside and into their fields for five days after they spray.”

When McDonald’s is ready to harvest their potatoes, they have to put them in giant atmospheric controlled sheds the size of football stadiums because they are not edible for six weeks. “They have to off gas all the chemicals in them.”

Excuse me, but i don’t see any unsubscribe link on this post. It is not usual for mailing lists in your country, but it should have it, just in case i change my opinion, that, acording to this example, it’s good. Thanks (i *never* visit any fast food place).

funny thing about these comments…… first we make a statement of how bad and toxic the chemicals are then in the same sentence we tell you that by storing them we get rid of ALL THE CHEMICALS….so what is the point? Don’t eat the potatoes because farmers in Idaho don’t tend their fields for 5 days?
Fries from McD are not bad because of the chemical (which is all gone) but because of all the grease they ere fried in! Silly you!

The chemical is in the air all the time! These potatoes are also grown in Minnesota. My parents are sick or in pain all summer due to the chemicals effects on nerves. It also killed their sheep herd.

This man doesn’t know what he is saying. All foods that are non organic have pesticides that need to be washed before eating so what. This could be some story from his own imagination not proven facts.

The Idaho potato is now “owned” by McDonalds so it cannot be obtained by individuals. That is a shame because the potato has some very good health benefits which are ruined by converting into chips! fried in over heated and over used oil and coated in sodium chloride. Let alone the residue of chemicals which are taken up by the plant during growth and no amount of storing to out gas will remove all traces. Humans are not designed to cope with these toxins, we are made to eat good clean unprocessed food.
Then we have the toxic properties of methamidophos; if not taken up by the plant where do you think the rest goes? Yes into the soil and eventually the water system. Then so we dont complain the safety of water levels have been increased in line with more toxic water, so we think we can safely drink more. Humans will not survive on this chemical concoction no matter how much science and research you put behind it. If we carry on the way we are the human race will destroy itself, thats if Mothe Nature doesnt do it for us to rid the parasite from the earth!

every chemical taken in by humans and animals pass into the water supply all chemical put on the ground and into plants also! Even organic products have some ” 17 safe chemical that are permitted to be sprayed on them” the only way you will ever get no chemicals is to grow your own food where ever possible! Even if you have no outdoor space it is amazing what you can grow in a window box if you have plants in your house change them into fruit and veg plants instead of flowers! As long as they get sunlight they will grow! Even potatoes! So if you are against the fast foods! Even by having the just one meal won’t hurt keeps the chain going just don’t buy them and they will soon close down! Enjoy your new growing and eating!

According to wiki, all use of Methamidophos (monitor) in the USA were “voluntarily cancelled” in 2009.
