Vedic Astrology Report for March 2020

Action-oriented Mars is center stage this month as it first conjuncts Jupiter in Sagittarius, then moves to its exalted sign of Capricorn, and finally joins Saturn in Capricorn, a very intense and powerful combination.  Venus moves to its own sign of Taurus on March 28, 2020, and will stay there over four months, giving us some much needed support. Then on March 29, 2020 Jupiter leaves Sagittarius and travels several months through Capricorn, its weakest sign, joining Saturn and Mars.

Mars, planet of action, passion, and assertiveness is in the spotlight in March. Mars will conjunct benefic Jupiter on March 19 and 20 exactly at 28 degrees Sagittarius. Mars and Jupiter on the positive side bring courageous and altruistic interests, as we advocate for just causes. But we also may be too hasty, take too many risks, and become moral crusaders.  Direct this dynamic energy of Mars and Jupiter into creative projects, educational pursuits, and worthwhile activities.

On March 22, 2020, Mars moves into its exalted sign of Capricorn until May 4, 2020. Mars energy is quite strong here, and we must focus on the higher octave of Mars, using our “spiritual warrior” energy to inspire, protect, and uplift others. Mars exalted can bring great creative energy to get things done, with a positive attitude and right motivation. Advocating for those in need, or working with environmental issues are positive outlets.  As Mars rules self-assertion, this is a time to be focused, patient, and balanced when interacting with others. Otherwise, Mars can manifest as selfishness, reckless, and overbearing energies. We are learning to co-operate with others, even when there is heightened frustration around us.

For those with cardinal sign Ascendants (Aries, Cancer, Libra, and Capricorn), Mars in Capricorn creates a powerful Ruchaka Yoga as it transits angular houses. Ruchaka Yoga presents an opportunity to manifest the highest qualities of Mars, like leadership, strong determination, courage, and success. On a lower level Ruchaka Yoga can be dominating, too controlling, or even militaristic in expression.

Mars and Saturn will now be transiting together in Capricorn from March 22 to May 4, and these are very powerful and strong positions, as Mars is exalted and Saturn transits a sign it owns. But there can be challenges, as they generate a push/pull energy. For this combination to work well we have to be extra patient and present, take personal responsibility for our actions, and try not to overreact.

This combination is intense and combustible, but we are learning to move clearly through barriers in our life and not give up, as we develop greater inner strength and courage. Saturn can constrict or delay some of the assertive energies of Mars. Mars is a planet that does not like restriction, and so frustrations amplify. Mars and Saturn energies will increase at the end of March as they will exactly conjunct at 6 degrees Capricorn on March 31, 2020, so be more observant at this time.

As a remedy, use the stable, wise, and patient Saturn influence to support you through this period, by developing your meditation practice. Saturn can help calm impulsive Mars, as we learn to work better under pressure. And improve your stamina (inner and outer), with a physical activity like yoga which is a positive way to work with Mars. During these times when our insecurities rise, we must connect to our true center, have faith, and generate more compassion and healing in ourselves and for the world.

On March 28, 2020 Venus, planet of love, diplomacy, and relationship, moves to its own sign of Taurus for quite a while due to going retrograde this year. Venus will stay in Taurus until July 31, 2020. With the sense of instability and change we can feel in the world, Venus in Taurus is a helpful transit. We want to share more time with supportive family and friends in comfortable surroundings. As Taurus is an earth sign, this is a great period for grounding activities like spending time in nature or gardening.  Venus in Taurus is positive for any artistic or musical endeavors, or healing modalities. We have a greater need to experience harmony, calm, and peace.

On March 29, 2020, Jupiter, planet of spirituality and prosperity, dips briefly into Capricorn until June 29, 2020. Jupiter will just transit from 0 to 3 degrees Capricorn during this time, and then it will turn retrograde on May 14, moving back to Sagittarius on June 29. Jupiter is debilitated in Capricorn, but there is some softening of the debility as Jupiter will be with Saturn, the ruler of Capricorn.  However, it is still transiting a weaker and less comfortable sign.

Previously when Jupiter was in its own sign of Sagittarius, it generated more optimism and generosity. Now as Jupiter transits Saturn-ruled Capricorn on March 29, the energies are more sobering, realistic, and practical for three months. Later this year, on November 20, 2020, Jupiter again will transit Capricorn for a longer period. So when Jupiter transits the austere, responsible, and serious sign of Capricorn, we may be asked to get back to basics, and live within our means.  This is a time we review what has true value and meaning in our lives, then we direct our focus (and finances) there.

On the positive, Jupiter in Capricorn will help you to slow down to be more present with your life, and help you make more solid, authentic choices. Selfless service or charity work is another positive expression of Jupiter in Capricorn, opening us up to greater compassion for humanity.  We can experience deeper understanding of what our faith means to us.  We place more emphasis now on expanding our inner life, which makes our personal practices, like meditation, more significant and truly valuable.
