Mars and Ketu are major influences the month of June, with these two fiery planets making their first of three conjunctions this year on June 7 and 8, 2018, bringing increased excitability. Toward the end of June, Mars, planet of action, goes retrograde, creating some reversals or increased frustrations, but ultimately generates a push for deeper reflection.

Two benefic planets, Mercury and Venus, both shift signs on June 8. Mercury moves into its favorable sign of Gemini, expressing the need to communicate and share, but we must do so with discernment. Venus transits through the sign of Cancer with Rahu, north node of the Moon, amplifying desires in relationships and creative expression.

All month, Mars, planet of action and initiative, travels in Capricorn very close to Ketu, south node of the Moon, with the exact contact occurring on June 7 and 8, 2018 at 13 degrees. This is the first conjunction of these two hot planets, with the second and third meetings occurring in July and late September.

With Mars exalted in Capricorn and so very strongly placed, we must aspire to the higher qualities of Mars by expressing our “spiritual warrior” energies to uplift others. Advocating for those in need who don’t have a voice, or working with environmental issues are some suggested positive outlets.

Ketu, planet of moksha, liberation, and the past, is very otherworldly, and demands a spiritual expression. Together, Mars and Ketu can ripen events based in the past for our healing, by testing our inner strength and resolve. We have to let go of old hurts or betrayals carried within.

This combination teaches us to own our power – realizing we are more courageous than we may have thought. We can rise to the occasion and take responsibility for our actions, and not blame or project onto others. With Mars/Ketu energies focused on spiritual and humanitarian causes, it can be quite insightful, potent and altruistic.

On the shadow side, we begin to feel the friction between these two pitta planets, Mars and Ketu. Be patient and get the facts straight before acting. This is a time to not over-react as our equilibrium can be off. It’s easier to become irritated and angry, or be unduly influenced and confused with others as motives may be hidden due to Ketu’s eclipse energy. This is a great opportunity to practice being present, stay mindful, and be in charge of your actions. Focus on heart-centered connections with others, and don’t take things too personally.

Later in the month, Mars goes retrograde at 15 degrees Capricorn on June 26 for two months, until August 27, 2018. When Mars is retrograde we must practice more awareness and neutrality, as things may not proceed in the time frame that we wanted. Our actions and goals can be delayed or reversed during the time, so this period may require more effort to move ahead. Mars retrograde could also bring less motivation to act in a timely manner. The normally assertive and forward-moving Mars is now held back, so over time increased frustrations set in. Watch for more passive-aggressive tendencies.

Upayes or remedial measures can be used to help mitigate and transmute some of the challenges we might experience with the Mars transits this summer. We do remediation to accelerate our spiritual growth, which brings us back to our center. As activity is important to Mars, it responds well to energetic disciplines such as yoga, tai chi, chi gong, and even body work and massage. Taking conflict resolution courses are another positive expression.  If you enjoy mantras, the Mars mantra is Om Hreem Mangalaya Namaha. Or you can work with the Hanuman Chalisa – which is connected to the Hindu deity Hanuman, which represents Mars.

Mercury, planet of the intellect and communications, transits its own sign of Gemini starting June 8 to June 25, 2018. Mercury will oppose Saturn in Sagittarius during this period. Mercury is quite happy in Gemini and is more communicative, clever, and social. Mercury likes to learn, so educational pursuits are favorable.

Saturn, planet of discipline and truth, transits Sagittarius and will oppose Mercury in Gemini. This aspect can help stabilize and ground the vacillating energies of Mercury in Gemini, which helps us academically. Our speech becomes more serious and responsible. The shadow is feeling our communications are blocked or censored.

Venus, planet of relationship, love, and the arts begins its transit through the water sign of Cancer on June 8 through July 4, 2018, where it joins Rahu, the north node of Moon. Venus and Rahu in Cancer will now oppose Mars and Ketu in Capricorn. This is quite an intense, passionate, and compulsive opposition.  Don’t mistake the excess stimulus generated by this combination for the truth.

With Mars and Venus conjunct the shadowy nodes, lessons arise in our intimate love relationships. Watch for over-reaction or secrets revealed with one another. Venus conjunct Rahu creates an urgency to be in relationship, but requires patience, clarity, and authenticity when connecting to others in order to sustain. Be kind and compassionate, and pay attention to your heart. Venus exactly conjuncts Rahu in Cancer at 12 degrees on June 19, and we feel an increased need for stimulus around this time. Rahu/Venus can be quite positive for our creative expressions, indicating extraordinary imagination and talent.
