July begins with a lunar eclipse on the evening of July 4, 2020 MST, the third eclipse of a trio of eclipses that began on June 5. Mercury, planet of communications, goes direct on July 12, 2020. Benefic and expansive Jupiter retrogrades back to its own sign of Sagittarius and will be exactly conjunct transformative Pluto from June 30 to July 7.

A lunar eclipse, the final of three eclipses, occurs on July 4, 2020 at 19 degrees Sagittarius at 9:44 PM MST or Arizona time, which is PDT. The previous eclipses were June 5 and June 20, 2020.  It is rare to have three eclipses in a row, and as eclipses can indicate changing circumstances, sometimes dramatically, this summer brings greater revelations and openings for us personally as well as globally.  Things hidden are now exposed in order for us to understand and possibly correct.

The July 4th lunar eclipse occurs in the Jupiter-ruled sign of Sagittarius in the nakshatra of Purva Ashadha. Lunar eclipses amplify the full Moon, and this one may reveal how much we individually or collectively really need each other, and how deeply connected we really are. With the eclipse in Sagittarius we are invited to look at life with a wider perspective, as well as a focus on freedom, equality, fairness, and our beliefs. We want to deeply understand the greater meaning of all we are experiencing in our world.

The nakshatra for this eclipse, Purva Ashadha, does emphasize the need for greater discrimination with our choices, and demands that our actions are ethical and positive.  Purva Ashadha means “early victory” so success can come quickly. It is also a very energized and creative nakshatra. However, there is a feeling of being invincible with Purva Ashadha, and it is also associated with starting battles. So try to stay calm and not start or engage in arguments that can escalate, be humble and instead direct this potent energy into peaceful and healing activities. Remember that eclipses are days for spiritual or meditative activities, so it is a wonderful time to go within.

Mercury, planet of communications, business, and learning, now goes direct at 11 degrees Gemini on July 12, 2020, having been retrograde since June 17, 2020. Mercury is quite strong in its own sign of Gemini, so moving forward we experience greater clarity, receptivity, and resourcefulness. When Mercury goes direct, it’s a good time to resolve any misunderstandings that occurred during the retrograde phase. You can apply the insights you gathered the last three weeks while Mercury was retrograde, and work toward your newly inspired goals.

Jupiter, the great benefic planet, retrogrades back from Capricorn, its debilitated sign, moving to its own sign of Sagittarius one final time from June 29, 2020 until November 20, 2020. Jupiter is more comfortable in its own sign. However, Jupiter will be joined closely by intense Pluto for quite awhile as it retrogrades back into Sagittarius. These two planets will be exactly conjunct from June 30 to July 7, 2020 at 29 degrees Sagittarius. Jupiter, an amplifying planet, connected to driven Pluto can be very enthusiastic and will be compelled to find truth, even to the point of obsessiveness.

We are motivated to find a deeper spiritual expression and are open to higher states of consciousness. On the challenging side, this combination can bring forth control issues over belief systems or challenges judicially or financially. Positively, we find our personal values going through a deep transformation for the good. It’s time to channel this powerful combination into uplifting visions and aspirations for a better world.
