Vedic Astrology for February 2019: New Beginnings and Quick Actions

vedic astrology May 2015

Mars, the fiery planet of action, is a major influence in February as it transits Aries, signaling new beginnings, quick actions, and sometimes impulsivity. Mars in Aries will aspect the north node Rahu, indicating a time to monitor our anger and frustrations. Mercury moves quickly through the sign of Aquarius this month, and then transits its debilitated sign of Pisces toward the end of February, requiring discernment in our communications. The Sun moves to Aquarius mid-month, and will be aspected by Saturn, amplifying the importance of self-responsibility. Venus travels with Saturn in Sagittarius most of February, creating the need for equality in relationships. Later in February, Venus shifts to Capricorn and conjuncts the south node Ketu, bringing a focus on spiritual, mystical love.

As Mars, planet of energy and assertiveness, moves to the fire sign of Aries on February 5, 2019, it will go briefly through the gandanta (spiritual knot) degrees of 29 Pisces to 0 Aries ( the cusp of water to fire signs) from February 4 through 6. These few days create an opening to unravel and release old, ineffective ways of expressing Mars energies via anger, force, or bullying. Instead, let’s transition to the higher energies of Mars, by responding to others and events in the world with care, courage, and patience.

Mars transits Aries from February 5 until March 22, 2019, and brings increased vitality and strength, along with the need for independence. Mars generally feels at home in its own sign of Aries and we feel more empowered and spontaneous. Mars does better with focused energy, so being more disciplined and efficient now is very helpful. The shadow of Mars in Aries is selfishness, volatility, and recklessness.

On February 8 and 9, take extra care when Mars in Aries aspects the north node Rahu in Cancer exactly at 2 degrees, which can amplify frustrations and the need to dominate. Mars and Rahu combination can be a bit unstable and we can react too quickly, not thinking things through. Be patient, clear-headed, listen, and don’t over-react. Direct this amplification of energy to positive activities – be more creative, practice yoga, help someone in need, or meditate.

For a brief period, Mercury, planet of communications, travels through the air sign of Aquarius from February 6 to 24. A short time later, on February 12, the Sun also shifts to Aquarius, until March 14. Both Mercury and the Sun will be in Saturn’s sign of Aquarius part of this month, and both will be aspected by Saturn in Sagittarius.

With Saturn’s amplified influence on Mercury’s transit through Aquarius from February 6 to 24, greater concentration and mental discipline is possible. Serious thinking and practical ideas can surface.  Watch for being too narrow-minded or feeling mentally stuck. Be clear and authentic with all of your communications and business dealings.

The Sun’s transit in Saturn-ruled Aquarius from February 12 until March 14, along with the Saturn aspect is more problematic for the Sun than for Mercury, as the Sun and Saturn are not the best of friends. This combination of Sun and Saturn energies can result in an imbalance of power and lack of respect for one another that need to be addressed and neutralized. We can also feel pressures with our career or we may overwork. We need some personal time to be expressive and have our emotional needs met. Power struggles in our workplace can surface. Find the time to connect deeply within and participate in creative activities that inspire.

Venus, planet of relationship, is transiting through Sagittarius and joins Saturn there for most of February, from January 30 until February 24, 2019. On February 18, Venus and Saturn will conjunct exactly at 22 degrees Sagittarius. The Venus and Saturn combination wants more stability, honesty, and commitment in relationships. Venus and Saturn can also bring up issues concerning self-worth and inability to be vulnerable with another. Practice self-love and be authentic. You are learning to find balance and peace in all your relationships.

Venus then shifts to the earth sign of Capricorn on February 24, and within a day, on February 25, Venus conjunct the south node Ketu at 1 degree Capricorn. We are searching for a higher, more refined love as Ketu is the planet of enlightenment. Commitment issues can become more apparent. This is a great time for devotional practices and meditation.

Also on February 24, Mercury planet of the intellect and communications begins a more complicated transit through its debilitated sign of Pisces that extends into March. Mercury transits Pisces from February 24 until March 14, when it moves back to Aquarius due to going retrograde on March 5. While Mercury is in Pisces it will be aspected by Jupiter and the north node Rahu.

Be more discerning and clear with communications around February 26 when Mercury is aspected by the shadow planet Rahu at 1 degree Pisces. However, while Mercury is transiting Pisces, it will be influenced by Jupiter in Scorpio, which is positive for education pursuits and learning opportunities. This combination can bring the desire for higher knowledge and ability to uncover deeper insights into life.
