September offers some relief from the recent summer eclipse season in July and August. Now we begin September with Venus, planet of love, moving to its own sign of Libra, with a focus on improving relationships and opening our hearts. Saturn, planet of discipline, now goes direct on September 6, 2018, which asks us to physically apply the lessons learned since last April. Mid-month, the Sun and Mercury will travel very closely together, as they begin their transit through Virgo. Mercury will be combust the Sun and influenced by Saturn, indicating a time to be mindful with our communications. Mars and Ketu meet one more time this year, prompting us to take affirmative action and cultivate inner courage.

Venus, planet of relationship, love, and compassion, is much happier as it beings a four month transit through its own sign of Libra on September 1, 2018 until January 1, 2019. This transit is longer than usual due to the fact that Venus will go retrograde October 5 to November 16, 2018. Venus in Libra is searching for balance, harmony, and healing. Libra is a sign of relationship, and so with Venus here, we aspire to find common ground with others, to generate the very best exchange as we connect deeply, and we do so without compromising our true values. The challenge is finding the right balance in relationships, with a fairly equal give and take. Venus in Libra can also amplify our creative energies and appreciation for the arts.

When Venus enters Libra on September 1, it will join magnanimous Jupiter already there. This conjunction of Venus and Jupiter will last until October 11, when Jupiter moves into the sign of Scorpio. But for the entire month of September, Jupiter and Venus together can be quite lovely and healing. Venus and Jupiter are both Brahmin planets and natural benefics. In Vedic mythology, Jupiter is considered the teacher of the gods, while Venus taught the demons (asuras) so both are planets that promote education and spiritual knowledge. This is a wonderful time to take courses for personal advancement and for expanding one’s awareness.

Jupiter and Venus together can also be quite humanitarian, political, and interested in social causes. Why not donate your time to a favorite charity or cause. Diplomacy is also favored. But watch for laziness, overindulgence, feeling loss of control in your life, or lack of proper boundaries. We need a little self-discipline and a good routine to balance this combination.

Saturn, planet of truth and focus, goes direct on September 6, 2018, having been retrograde since April 17, 2018. With Saturn moving forward now, we begin to feel clearer and more determined to live our lives as authentically as possible, letting go of any illusionary beliefs and emotional baggage. New opportunities may be revealed in the coming months.

The Sun moves to the earth sign of Virgo on September 17 until October 17, 2018. The Sun in Virgo ushers in a deeper sense of service and wanting to do our best in the world. During this time, Saturn in Sagittarius will aspect the Sun, with the exact aspect happening at 8 degrees Virgo on September 25 (the same day as the Mars/Ketu conjunction). As the Sun and Saturn are not so friendly with each other, the last week of September can bring power struggles or imbalanced energies. We may feel blocks to our creativity and self-expression. Outwardly, issues can surface regarding one’s career or with authority figures. This is a time to create a more positive balance between one’s personal needs and one’s outer, professional life.

Mercury moves into Virgo, its sign of exaltation on September 18 until October 5, 2018. Generally, this is a very positive transit for Mercury, amplifying the qualities of discernment, organizational skill, attention to detail, as well as great insight and resourcefulness.  However, Mercury will be traveling very close to the Sun (called combustion) especially during the period from September 18 through September 27, indicating a time to be extra mindful with all communications (oral or written) and with any travel plans.

Finally, Mars, planet of action and courage, and Ketu, planet of moksha and liberation, meet exactly at 10 degrees Capricorn on September 25 and 26, 2018, for their third and final conjunction of the year. This conjunction of Mars and Ketu is at the exact degree of the lunar eclipse that occurred on July 27, 2018, which generates more intensity and greater significance at this time. This planetary combination can be very fiery and pitta-provoking, so watch for increased frustrations or accident-proneness. Use this time to let go of any guilt or regret that holds you back from living fully in the present moment. Allow these amplified energies to inspire you, as you accept your true power and strength. Let patience, compassion, and kindness guide you in September.
