April brings fresh, new energies with the exalted Sun transiting Aries mid-month. Saturn and Mars travel together in Sagittarius, uniting two different energies that require patience, understanding, and focus in order to work well. We are prompted to take extra care with our communications this month as Mercury is retrograde in Pisces and influenced by Mars. We are learning the power of our words. Saturn retrograde turns us inward as we seek true meaning in our lives. Venus in Taurus is comforting, and brings the desire for peace and harmony in our relationships and world.

Spring has arrived, as the Sun beings its annual transit through Aries, the first sign of the zodiac, from April 14 until May 14, 2018. The Sun is exalted in Aries, and we feel more empowered, confident, and adventurous. The Sun is sattwic or pure in nature, and generates an uplifting and life-supporting vibration. The Sun rules the eastern direction, suggesting the sense of new beginnings and the excitement we feel during this particular time of year.  On the shadow-side we become more impatient. The Sun is a pitta or fiery planet, and we can become overly stimulated emotionally, which results in frustration.  Reciting the Gayatri mantra can help one connect to the soul, one’s inner Sun.

For the entire month of April, Saturn, planet of focus and discipline, and Mars, planet of energy and action, will be influencing each other as they transit the fire sign of Sagittarius. Mars will eventually move on to the sign of Capricorn on May 3, 2018. But while they are together, we can experience some restrictions moving forward, especially during the first two weeks of April. Direct the Mars/Saturn energies into greater productivity. Be patient, self-disciplined, and concentrate your energies in a positive way. Practice grace under pressure! See delays as opportunities, rise to the occasion, and make necessary adjustments to ensure future success.

Mercury, planet of communications, is retrograde in its debilitated sign of Pisces until April 15, 2018, making this a period of review, as we require greater clarity and detail. This is a good time to clear up and heal any misunderstandings that surface. Once Mercury goes direct, things can begin to slowly move forward. However, as Mercury resides in Pisces, its sign of debility, until May 9, 2018, we still need to practice objectivity and discernment with our communications. With Mercury transiting the water sign of Pisces the entire month, watch for indecisiveness or increased emotion and intuition guiding your decision-making.

In addition, Mars will aspect Mercury the whole month of April. The exact aspect occurs on April 3, 2018 at 15 degrees, indicating the first week of April is particularly sensitive for communications. Mars influencing Mercury stimulates the mind, and we can be quite clever and enjoy debate. But watch for angry words and speaking too quickly without thinking things through. Be mindful and patient in your conversations.

Saturn, the lord of time, karma, and truth, turns retrograde at 15 degrees Sagittarius on April 17 until September 6, 2018. Inner tensions can arise if we are out of integrity, as Saturn requires honesty. This is a period to overcome and heal issues of limitation or self-doubt. There is a tendency to be harder on ourselves, so practice compassion for self and others. As Saturn rules commitment, reviewing or renegotiating your responsibilities and duties is possible. We are drawn to those things that have deeper meaning to us. Time spent along is more appealing, but watch for too much isolation. Spend time in nature or be with supportive people are positive remedies. Over time, we find it easier to tap into our inner strength and wisdom.

Akshaya Tritiya, a very auspicious day in the Vedic calendar, and is April 18 this year. This occurs on the third lunar day of the waxing Moon in either April or May, when both the Sun and Moon are exalted, which increases the positive solar and lunar energies. It is said that this is the day when the sacred Ganges River descended to earth from heaven. Traditionally, any new venture or undertaking begun on this day is supported and brings enduring and increased prosperity.  Helping others and charitable offerings are also highly favored this day.

Venus, planet of love, creativity, and healing, transits its own sign of Taurus from April 19 until May 14, 2018, amplifying the need for stability in love, closeness to family, and being in a comfortable, supportive environment. Venus, in the earth sign of Taurus, enjoys spending time in nature, gardening, and getting grounded. Our increased desire for harmony and peace opens us up to express heart-felt compassion and sensitivity with our partners, friends, and global family. Creative projects or healing modalities are greatly favored.
