Vedic Astrology for April: Mercury Retrograde & Other Challenges We’ll All Face

Written by on April 1, 2016 in Astrology & Numerology, Reality's Edge with 2 Comments

vedic astrology May 2015At the start of April, we will all experience a longing for more compassion, kindness, and peace in our world, as we want to transform the suffering and challenges we see all around us. This is due to the benefic planet Venus transitting its exalted sign in Pisces through April 24, 2016. It will make it easier for us to be more unconditional and forgiving with those we encounter as we recognize the importance of opening our hearts and sharing.

Also, as Venus rules fine art and beauty, we can enjoy being more creative and self-expressive. The shadow of Venus in Pisces is over- indulgence, lack of proper boundaries, and addictive tendencies. We may wish to add more devotional and spiritual content to our lives too, as Venus rules the path of Bhakti Yoga.

The Sun transits Aries, its sign of exaltation from April 13 through May 13, 2016. We’ll feel empowered, ambitious, spontaneous, and invincible. Aries energy is self-initiating, active, competitive, and passionate. Be enthusiastic and inspired to take on the challenge of connecting to your true potential.

A significant astrological event occurs mid-April when Mars (the planet of action, vitality, war, and courage), goes retrograde in its own sign of Scorpio from April 17 until June 29, 2016. When Mars is retrograde, it does not always act in its usual way, and can create some challenges. We can feel hesitant to take action and are less assertive. Try to work through any internalized stress, as when Mars is retrograde, frustrations build up that need a healthy outlet.

On the other hand, we could all feel more driven and may not recognize our physical limitations and thereby over-extend ourselves. We may overreact to things and be more argumentative than usual. If possible, engage in mindfulness practices, like yoga, bodywork, pranayama. This is a time to courageously face your doubts and fears, and transform them into higher, positive energies. But Mars retrograde is normally not a good time to start something new. So use this time to constructively re-work and revise your existing plans and projects, and create new strategies that you can initiate after Mars goes direct on June 29.

As Mars is with Saturn in Scorpio for quite a long time this year, we have to be extra patient and present, taking personal responsibility for our actions. But with both these planets now retrograde together (Saturn went retrograde March 25, Mars goes retrograde April 17), this can further dampen the forward motion that Mars desires, and we can feel even more stuck on an outer level. Still, this cn be good as it guides us to cultivate a deeper and more authentic spiritual life than we ever experienced before.

Mercury goes retrograde in the sign of Aries on April 28 until May 22, 2016, indicating a time to research new ideas, be clear with all communications, backup computer data, and review travel plans. Choose your words carefully, and take time before you speak, as you may be misunderstood or misquoted. Mercury retrograde periods are good for self-analysis, introspection, and meditation.

Also, remember that Rahu (north node of the Moon) is currently transiting the sign of Leo, and Ketu (south node of the Moon) has been transiting the sign of Aquarius since January 8, 2016 (and will be until September 8, 2017). The nodes of the Moon bring up karmic issues (or life lessons) to be experienced and understood, and they are complex and felt both psychologically and emotionally. Rahu in Vedic mythology is the head (brain) of a snake, and therefore can either be quite intelligent and progressive, or more into mental abstraction and subtle manipulation. When Rahu is excessive, we can focus too much on the mind (thinking) and forget our hearts where the real wisdom resides.

Rahu is transiting Leo with the benefic planet Jupiter, and as these two planets both amplify energies, this movement can bring great accomplishment and desire for knowledge, or on the shadow side, Rahu in Leo can exaggerate one’s self-importance, amplify fears, and create power struggles.

Ketu represents the body of a snake in mythology, which holds the heart and intuition. Ketu can bring a focus on enlightenment and compassion, or can create confusion or feelings of rejection. With Ketu transiting Aquarius (Saturn’s sign), this can indicate we are in the process of transcending our individualized sense of self and expanding this awareness into a greater concern for humanity.

This is a fine balance we are all moving through. To alleviate these sometimes contradictory energies you may feel inside, do honest and simple activities to quiet the mind and create balance. Be more neutral and non-reactive to gain greater insight. Do normal, every day activities, be with those who support you, listen to your heart, and focus on the things you know for sure.

I wonder if you’ve noticed Nibiru’s effect on your life yet.

“Priest work fuddled with by Debra Infante.” Don’t bother looking for this information where it actually is still existing in the world. Just slap it on your zodiac and believe whatever you want, as long as you’re doing your postures and being a nice person. This feels like cringey missionary work.
