This Doctor Says Prescription Drugs Are Killing Us – and He’s Not the Only One

When it comes to our health, taking one person’s word as doctrine might not be the best idea, whether they are a doctor or not. What one person truly believes to be the best course of action in treating an illness may be the last thing someone else recommends, depending on a complex range of factors, including where and how they were educated, and, in particular, who funded that education. Indeed, many concerns have been raised about the use of industry-accepted pharmaceuticals, often by the very doctors who were told to use them. We now have, moreover, an overwhelming amount of evidence to corroborate what many of these professionals have been trying to tell us for decades:

The medical profession is being bought by the pharmaceutical industry, not only in terms of the practice of medicine, but also in terms of teaching and research. The academic institutions of this country are allowing themselves to be the paid agents of the pharmaceutical industry. I think it’s disgraceful.

There is a reason why the most widely accessed article in the history of the Public Library of Science (PLoS) is entitled, Why Most Published Research Findings Are False. In the report, researchers stated that most current published research findings are false, and this was more than 10 years.

Dr. Peter Gotzsche, co-founder of the Cochrane Collaboration (the world’s most foremost body in assessing medical evidence), hopes to make clear this very problem. He is currently working to inform the world about the dangers associated with several pharmaceutical grade drugs. Based on his research, he estimates that 100,000 people in the United States alone die each year from the side-effects of correctly used prescription drugs, noting that “it’s remarkable that nobody raises an eyebrow when we kill so many of our own citizens with drugs.” He published a paper last year in the Lancet arguing that our use of antidepressants is causing more harm than good, and taking into consideration the recent leaks regarding antidepressant drugs, it seems he is correct.

The most recent example of this kind of corruption in relation to antidepressants comes from a study that was published last week in the British Medical Journal by researchers at the Nordic Cochrane Center in Copenhagen. The study showed that pharmaceutical companies were not disclosing all information regarding the results of their drug trials:

[This study] confirms that the full degree of harm of antidepressants is not reported. They are not reported in the published literature, we know that – and it appears that they are not properly reported in clinical study reports that go to the regulators and from the basis of decisions about licensing.  (source)

Researchers looked at documents from 70 different double-blind, placebo-controlled trials of selective serotonin reuptake inhibitors (SSRI) and serotonin and norepinephrine reuptake inhibitors (SNRI) and found that the full extent of serious harm in clinical study reports went unreported. These are the reports sent to major health authorities like the U.S. Food and Drug Administration.

Tamang Sharma, a PhD student at Cochrane and lead author of the study, said:

We found that a lot of the appendices were often only available upon request to the authorities, and the authorities had never requested them. I’m actually kind of scared about how bad the actual situation would be if we had the complete data. (source)

This is not the first time that pharmaceutical companies have been caught manipulating science in order to get antidepressants onto the shelves. It was only a couple of months ago that an independent review found that the commonly prescribed antidepressant drug Paxil (paroxetine) is not safe for teenagers, even though a large amount of literature had already suggested this previously. The 2001 drug trial that took place, funded by GlaxoSmithKline, found that these drugs were completely safe, and used that ‘science’ to market Paxil as safe for teenagers.

Gotzche’s two main areas of focus are antidepressants and “non-steroidal anti-inflammatory” painkillers like ibuprofen, tylenol, celecoxib, and diclofenac. Another is Vioxx, which was actually withdrawn after it was discovered that it caused more than 100,000 cases of serious heart disease in the United States during the five years that it was on the market.

If prescription drugs are killing us, why do they keep prescribing it?

Because everything is about money now. Do you really not see this without asking? If is cheaper to buy modified and unhealthy food than to buy organic and healthy food. Insurance covers what pharmaceutical companies provide and won’t assist you in getting natural remedies that help. Shit…my son only had attention span issues until school requested me take him to the doctor that have him ADHD meds when he turned out to have Aspergers not ADHD once I took my own steps. The meds made his symptoms worse. He now has tics and vocal twitches that are highly noticeable. Before he just couldn’t sit still. I have found natural homeopathic remedies that help and insurance doesn’t assist in that. They only help with the crap that screws you up forever and causes dependency. It is all about the $$$ in our society. Nobody cares about people as a whole anymore.

“THANK GOD”! Somebody actually sees the obvious scam of pharmaceutical companies I’m not alone thanks Kirsten your comments helped me believe in human decency if I were you I would sue big pharma into financial destruction.

Kristen Duncan, couldn’t have said it better myself.

I’m sad to hear about your son. But happy that you sought out a healthier, more natural treatment. Most people are just too lazy to seek other options, or just brush them off because the docs won’t back them up as options for treatments.

    •' Mark says:

Because people will believe anything as long as it’s what they want to hear people are easy to deceive and fear the truth plain and simple just follow the money trails.

    •' Kristen Duncan says:

Missi Lynn I had to go to a compound pharmacy that makes meds there themselves and strongly believe in natural sources. They have homeopathic drops and capsules that basically consist of nutrients kids and adults are deprived of in our GMO and fast food society. Most of the medical issues today are due to lack of proper nutrition and peeps are too in a rush and lazy to realize it. We changed simple ingredients we use and eliminated most things from the kids daily diets and just that small step helps. Like using pink Himalayan salt which has 87 essential vitamins and nutrients your body needs instead of processed table salt that is stripped of nutrients and causes health issues. That alone and using organic raw sugars made a huge difference. People don’t realize that you don’t have to give up things you like. Just make them using better ingredients. Being from Louisiana and how our food is makes it hard on some. They could simply change what they use to make roux for gumbo for example. I make it with brown rice or coconut flour and grapeseed oil. It has a great flavor and is far more healthy. People just have to care to make the effort. Organic produce makes a huge difference too. More filling and has the nutrients it is supposed to. Costs a little more but saves you in the long run from all the medical bills and medicines. It is all a matter of helping yourself rather than depending on doctors that are sponsored by these high dollar companies to push certain medications on you. Hopefully people have a wake up call soon.

    •' Isabelo Evasco says:

It’s the toxic residue of non-organic food.

    •' Adam Tracey says:

Your irrational paranoid thinking is a danger to your child. Homeopathic remedies are a sham and fail to meet even basic logical standards of functionality let alone any scientific basis. Himalayan salt is overhyped, table salt is perfectly fine for normal use to argue against it is absurd. Organic food has no health benefits over conventional food just as non gmo food has no benefit what so ever. I repeat organic food is not healthier it simply isn’t, “has the nutients it’s supposed to” what nutrients woild those be? Unicorn milk and fairy dust? Or good wishes and happy vibes?….. wow you really are off the deep end.

    •' Yvonne Jackson says:

Adam Tracey The proof of the pudding, is definitely in the eating. If you are healthier, and feel healthier, on organic food, than you did on non organic, says it all.

The only ‘mind altering’ drug I have ever used, which was over a decade ago, was Zoloft. Which was prescribed for postpartum.

I was only on it for a month because
it had the opposite effect on me and and mind. It made my mind go very dark, very quickly. 🙁

  7.' Denise Vause says:

End of the day they are all chemical formulated, says it all

    •' Adam Tracey says:

What does that say? You realise everything is a chemical right? Also many pharmaceutical drugs are from plants and other “natural” sources. Many natural things will kill you very efficiently so stop blatant fear mongering.

the side effects are always worse than the symptoms, for which the drugs are prescribed, follow the money, one drug leads to another

Can not stress enough the amount of suicide ideation arises from opium based medications…Vicodin does not kill the pain merely muting it…wants more….drug addict….in pain drug addict…it’s too much I can not take the pain n being a addict…suicide

  10.' Dwayne Robbie says:

Profit. Profit. Profit. The health system has forgotten that their top priority should be patient health, not creating profit streams for themselves and the drug companies.

  11.' Arturo Hernandez says:

Super big business, doesn’t take much to have a doctors perscribe them eather, really bad side affects ive seen them all, No Good, if struggling with Mental Health, Best thing Ever!, is a really good diet, We are what we eat, exercise.

Ethics in medicine — you’d think this would be a subject that would need not be discussed..
If you do practice medicine – try to keep in mind the REAL reason you started it. Doctors should be trustworthy I mean come on !! If this continues plus then forced health insurance in the U.s., then what are we but slaves to it… Anyway back to work ..

Chantix turned me into a raving lunatic! I yelled at my employees, freaked out at home over minor things, threw stuff, punched things. My heart started racing in full anxiety and didn’t stop for days. I was on it for 10 days before I couldn’t take anymore. i am a really mellow person. Unfortunately, I still smoke.

It’s funny how real facts are exposed to the populace and there is no denying those facts, an all of a sudden these doctors want to accept and state what most individuals have always known. Hey better sooner then later but more need to get on the obvious health train. More should be concerned about preventive medicine and not the next binny they will get for prescribing drugs. There is a revolution that these docs don’t want to be victims of when they should of looked out for there patients an not the sales rep who came into there office offering compensation for there drugs. Just saying!

  22.' Michael Detrick says:

I have worked in “integrated” clinics for almost 15 years, meaning clinics that integrate mainstream medicine practiced by MD’s along with nutrition, energy medicine, and other natural healing modalities. There are definitely some very good and important pharmaceutical drugs that save lives, improve quality of life, and that have benefits that far outweigh the potential side effects. Sadly, there are also many legal drugs that are not properly tested and are on the market because Big Money and Big Pharma have purchased the American government’s cooperation. Sadly, the doctors are not adequately trained in all drugs. Docs are usually overworked and overbooked, and only have time for the “quick-fix”. Ultimately, patients need to educate themselves with more than just rumours and anecdotal evidence, and they need to stop relying 100% on their doctors or their naturopaths or nutritionists. Whether we like it or not, we cannot always rely on the “experts” in any field to give us the truth or to do a good job of taking care of us.

  23.' Renée Morton says:

Self medicating has much worse side effects and is killing our population … I think that we need to look at the real problems and listen to our doctors and one another .. Doctors don’t study the human body to gain no knowledge or any idea of what medications are required .. I say prescription medications are annoying and what not but we humans need helps sometimes .. On the other hand street drugs, alcohol and other self medicating drugs and behaviours like gambling and prostitution for example ., are detrimental and fatal in some cases too.. We need to learn the art of LISTENING and we all need to practice this so much more than we do already ❤️
