The Crossroads

The Crossroads

The crossroads is a magical place. It’s the place where the ethereal, spiritual, and philosophical meets the physical, real, and practical. Where these two roads intersect is the holy ground of transformation, it’s the place where we have to drop our one-track thinking and see the many roads. Practicing yoga means to be at the […]

Learning to Let Go

Yoga philosophy suggests that there are many steps that coach us along the way toward understanding and experiencing our True Nature. Some of these include the cycle of becoming pliant in the heat of our own transformation then experiencing an increasingly greater knowledge of the True Self. This qualifies us for a more refined […]

Yoga: The Next Right Thing

The First Step For over a year I volunteered to teach a yoga class once a week to a group of men at a place called The First Step House. This was an institution established for men who had just come out of jail and who needed a positive first step into managing a new […]

The Power of Intentions

The Power of Intentions

Power of Intentions Intentions are powerful. Salkalpa is the Sanskrit word for our intention and could be compared to planting a seed. Just like a seed, we must be aware of what we are planting and nourish that seed to see that intention manifest in our world.  Setting intentions has everything to do with what […]

The “H” Word

The “H” Word

The Cancer of Being Critical Not too many years ago our culture invented a word: Hater. I don’t think that word existed back in the lexicon of my parents. It was meant to mean someone who is often contrary not only to you and what you’re about but more often than not, chronically grumpy about […]

How To Do Yoga “Correctly”

“You’re Not Doing It Right!” At a yoga retreat I was hosting a few years ago, a woman was humorously explaining that her 70 year-old father had just “discovered” yoga. She described him as a type-AAA personality— very analytical, a physicist or engineer or something—who had recently stumbled across a yoga DVD and had became […]

The Art of Yoga

What is the marriage between inner and outer beauty?  Yoga is many things. It’s a science, a philosophy, a mode of spirituality, and a method of therapy to name a few. Sometimes I forget that yoga is also an art. Yoga is beautiful, pure and simple. It’s beautiful to watch and to experience. Yoga, like […]

Your Both and Nature: Doing and Being

Puerto Rico Protesters Got Creative: Dancing, Singing, Diving…

The protests in Puerto Rico that besieged the island’s embattled governor, Ricardo A. Rosselló, before he announced on Wednesday that he was resigning, were unlike any San Juan had seen before. Hundreds of thousands of people from all corners of the island jammed highways and surrounded the governor’s mansion. But they did not just march and shout slogans. They applied pressure in a host of other ways, from singing and dancing to yoga and horseback riding. Activists and celebrities used social media extensively, popularizing hashtags like #RickyRenuncia, #RickyTeBote, #TelegramGate, #RickyLeaks and #PuertoRicoMarcha to amplify their message and inspire more protests.

Walking The Line

Whether we are new or seasoned practitioners, our objective in practice is always the same: to step up to the comfortable relationship with our edge. That invitation to step to our edge is so provocative! It suggests leaving the comfort of what we know and move toward our yet unknown greatness. Living On The Frontier […]

Shakti To The System

Shakti To The System

When we express this #Shakti, we feel powerful and creative, we breathe and we move. This feeling of Shakti is very empowering. It is the defining action that changes worry into something productive. After all, as one of my teachers, Judith Lasater taught me, “What is worrying but praying for what you don’t want.” Not only worry, though. Shakti tells the Universe that you are serious by putting action to your resolve.

No Shirt, No Shoes, No Problem!

I recently spent two weeks in Kaua’i, where I co-hosted a yoga retreat, practiced relaxing, and connected to a very special place. In Kaua’i,  there is a feeling that permeates the island, inborn to the locals and infectious to its visitors. For me the feeling can be summed up in a simple motto: No Shirt. […]
