Breaking: Bayer Buys Monsanto: the Empire Strikes Back

Breaking: Bayer Buys Monsanto: the Empire Strikes Back

Mega-giant Bayer put $66 billion on the table, and mega-giant Monsanto said yes. Think GMOs, crop seeds, pesticides, medical drugs. Keep in mind that one of the consultants on the European side of this deal is the Rothschild Group. But that’s not all. Dow and DuPont are planning to merge. Recently, another biotech giant, Syngenta, was swallowed up by the state-owned ChemChina. And this just in: two major Canadian fertilizer manufacturers, Potash Corp of Saskatchewan Inc. and Agrium Inc. are merging. Consolidation, monopoly. The Empire strikes back. Let us know what you think of this posting in our comments section.

Wikileaks Founder Reveals More Reasons Why the TPP Should Never Become Law

Wikileaks Founder Reveals More Reasons Why the TPP Should Never Become Law

WikiLeaks founder Julian Assange knows more about the contents of the TPP than most members of Congress and is doing much more to inform the American public than any of our so-called representatives with the lone exception of Senator Jeff Sessions (R-AL)… Very, considerably larger than NAFTA, it is mostly not about trade. Only five of the twenty-nine chapters are about traditional trade.

Disposable People: Obama, the TPP & Human Rights Betrayal

Disposable People: Obama, the TPP & Human Rights Betrayal

As we know, Obama turned his back on many in his own party and, in concert with Republicans, forwarded the multinational corporate agenda’s TPP. Since that time, the administration has sunk to new lows in its zeal to finish the deal on the TPP, even allowing one of its members to get away with forced slavery & other human rights violations.

Bad Trade Deal Gets Worse

Bad Trade Deal Gets Worse

Briefly put, one word was changed (“paragraph” became “subparagraph”) in a section relating to copyright infringement. But this one-word substitution drastically changes the substance of the document. Before, the language exempted states from applying certain criminal penalties in cases of copyright infringement when there was no market or economic impact on the copyright holder. The one-word substitution now means that most criminal penalties in these cases must apply even if there was no discernible impact on the copyright holder.

Super Bowl Distracts Americans While Their Future Is Being Sold To the Corporate Elite

By Claire Burnish | Activist Post “Films, football, beer, and above all, gambling filled up the horizon of their minds. To keep them in control was not difficult….” ― George Orwell, 1984 As Americans train their attention to Super Bowl 50, their way of life — and for nearly half a million people, their livelihoods — just […]

Is America’s Biggest Federation of Unions Caving on the TPP?

Is America’s Biggest Federation of Unions Caving on the TPP?

I received an Email on July 6, 2015 about the Trans-Pacific Partnership from the largest federation of unions in the U.S. I have received previous Emails from them regarding this subject and they have been a vocal opponent of the TPP for years. What I found curious about this communication is how it has shifted its goal – from seeking the defeat of the bill to asking the president for revisions that will be good for labor. Now, keep in mind that many individuals and groups have stated that this is an awful trade bill. I have characterized the bill in a previous article as “trash” and attempted to make the point that, no matter how you try to dress it up or make it seem more palatable, trash is still trash.

Does Any US Legislator Have the Guts to Reveal the Contents of TTP and Risk Getting Arrested?

Does Any US Legislator Have the Guts to Reveal the Contents of TTP and Risk Getting Arrested?

Nothing would prevent the Congress from voting the TPP down, especially and because the contents of the Treaty are secret. The public isn’t informed of the details. Any US legislator with a trace of courage would do just that—vote it down.
The legislators themselves have been allowed to enter a sealed room and read some of the content. But there is no guarantee that what they’re reading is in the final draft of the Treaty. The legislators may takes notes in the sealed room, but they can’t keep their notes. They can’t make copies. They can’t discuss what they’ve read with the press or the public.
Again, on that basis alone, any legislator with a shred of honor would vote no on the Treaty. And no on secrecy.
If a member of Congress did break omertà and reveal to the public what he read in the sealed room, he would be violating Executive Branch regulations on classified data (“national security”), and he could be arrested.

Well, that is exactly what a Senator or Representative who, with courage and honor, opposes the TPP, should welcome. An arrest? He should celebrate it.

Fast Track and TPP Are Trash-Let’s Throw Them Out

Fast Track and TPP Are Trash-Let’s Throw Them Out

I want to use an analogy to demonstrate what I think is happening with our U.S. Congress and the Trans-Pacific Partnership negotiations. The Fast Track and TPP are like having trash put on a plate and served to you as dinner. You look at it and know instantly that it is nothing that you would ever want to eat, but the president and many Republican legislators tell you that it is going to be good for you and that the U.S. and 11 other countries have been working on perfecting this recipe for nearly a decade. Many of the Democratic legislators agree that there are problems with this recipe. Yet the president believes that he can convince them to vote in favor of this being something that all U.S. Citizens, and those of the other 11 nations, will be forced to swallow.

TPP: Obama’s Asian Trade Deal Sells Out American Workers

TPP: Obama’s Asian Trade Deal Sells Out American Workers

Congress should not grant President Barack Obama authority to conclude another free trade agreement in Asia, because it would lower American wages and exacerbate income inequality. The Trans-Pacific Partnership (TPP) would eliminate tariffs and lower other regulatory barriers to trade and investment among the United States, South Korea, Japan and nine other Pacific Rim nations. If successful, China, India and several other nations could seek membership. Hence, the TPP has the potential to redefine the rules for international commerce in the most rapidly growing region of the international economy, but President Obama has given ordinary workers good reason to believe he is not looking out for them.

More than 250 tech companies and digital rights organizations on Wednesday sent a joint letter to Congress, blasting the corporate-backed TPP trade deal they say “actively silences the voices of Internet users, start-ups, and small tech companies…while undermining the health of the entire Web.”

10 Plain Language Reasons To Oppose Fast Track & the TPP

Don’t feel bad if trade talk – treaties, exports & imports – makes your eyes glaze over. It’s understandable. Most likely, you’ve heard about this Trans Pacific Partnership, or TTP at least once a week. But you’re busy & probably haven’t really looked beneath the headlines. Even if you have, some of the authors don’t always do a great job breaking the nuts & bolts down for you. So, you leave frustrated that they don’t get to the point. This article seeks to tell this story in more plain language. Make no mistake this TPP story is big, full of intrigue, and needs heroes and heroines to stand up to the bad guys. You can be one of the many that are standing up. But time is short because the congress is being asked to shut down debate on this sucker and say yea or nay to it under a limited time crunch to read & understand what’ll probably be over a 1000 pages & then figure out if it is right for America.

NEWS FLASH: New TPP Leak Confirms U.S. Worker & Taxpayer Fears

NEWS FLASH: New TPP Leak Confirms U.S. Worker & Taxpayer Fears

The Trans-Pacific Partnership’s (TPP) Investment Chapter…reveals how the pact would make it easier for U.S. firms to offshore American jobs to low-wage countries while newly empowering thousands of foreign firms to seek cash compensation from U.S. taxpayers by challenging U.S. government actions, laws and court rulings before unaccountable foreign tribunals. After five years of secretive TPP negotiations, the text – leaked by WikiLeaks –proves that growing concerns about the controversial “investor-state dispute settlement” (ISDS) system that the TPP would extend are well justified, Public Citizen said.

World At A Crossroads: Stop The Fast Track To A Future Of Global Corporate Rule

As globalization begins its third decade, the question before us is, do we want corporate rule or people’s rule? Is the wealth of a few more important than human rights? What can be done to empower people? Should the nation-state become a thing of the past and corporate sovereignty reign, or is there another path? This is a debate that cannot be fast tracked; it must be brought into the open before trade agreements cement corporate rule for decades to come. We urge people to put their effort into stopping fast track legislation in Congress. This will not be easy because it is high on the president’s agenda, many pro-business legislators and entities like the Chamber of Congress. It can only be stopped if people work together persistently to oppose it.

Trans-Pacific Partnership Explained & Why Fast Track Must Be Stopped (2Min Video)

Robert Reich gives one of the best descriptions of the nature & dangers of the Trans-Pacific Partnership in a less than 3 minute video. The effort to have this secretive, nontransparent proposal put on a “fast track”, smacks of Tammany Hall-style politics that benefits no one but fat cats. And, after years of the public hoping for bipartisanship in Congress, isn’t it ironic that this is the issue where Republicans are supporting the president in large & growing numbers?
