How to Use a Blend of Herbs With Conventional Therapies to Treat Cancer

| Donnieyance

herbs-spices-2560x1440The world of Western conventional medicine is oriented to the ‘magic bullet’ paradigm, where the search for drugs relies on the concept of compounds that bind specifically to a single target and demonstrate a high degree of potency. Recently, though, this approach has broadened, with researchers suggesting that it is non-specific and relatively weak patterns of activity that may ultimately prove of greatest importance in drug discovery. Though research on multi-targeted drugs is still at an early stage, studies indicate that certain antipsychotic drugs, for instance, appear to be more effective when several types of receptors are targeted.1-3

Traditional herbal medicine recognized centuries ago that combining many plants delivers far better results than relying on a single plant. This is true both for supporting health and vitality and for treating imbalances and diseases. The multi-component nature inherent in medicinal herbs makes them particularly suitable for managing the multitude of issues that present in complex diseases such as cancer, and offers great potential for synergistic actions, including interactions between botanicals and the relationship of botanicals to conventional cytotoxic drugs such as chemotherapy and targeted agents.

The Origins of Herbal Medicines for Healing Cancer

Herbal medicine has been the foundation of treatment for human maladies since ancient times, and continues to be an essential part of culturally based healing traditions in many cultures worldwide. As our respect for botanical medicine has grown, numerous herbs, including those traditionally used in Chinese medicine, are being incorporated as remedies for disease management and treatment in Western countries.4

Consider the following:

  • 69% of anticancer drugs approved between the 1980s and 2002 are either natural products or have been developed based on knowledge gained from natural products.5
  • About three quarters of plant-derived drugs in clinical use today came to the attention of pharmaceutical companies because of their use in traditional medicines.6

Because botanicals contain a variety of organic chemical complexes, they usually act on multiple targets. A potential advantage of phytochemicals is that they may act through multiple pathways, thus reducing the development of resistance by cancer cells.7 Botanical medicine does not have single effects, nor does it have a high degree of potency, but rather is pleotrophic, having relatively weak (compared to that of drugs) or gentle effects, assisting rather then controlling, and often acting in an amphoteric, symphonic way—able to not only do different things in different situations, but even to have the opposite effect, depending on the circumstances.

Botanical, as well as natural dietary compounds, have drawn a great deal of attention as potential cancer preventive agents because of their wide margin of safety. However, single agent intervention has failed to bring the expected outcome in clinical trials; therefore, combinations of botanicals and natural dietary compounds are gaining increasing popularity.8

Botanical preparations include crude herbs, herbal tinctures, fluid extracts, powdered concentrated whole herb extracts, standardized herbal extracts, and herbal isolates. Botanical compounds, even as isolates, differ from drugs in that rather than blocking pathways or receptors, they tend to “take the edge off” just enough to reduce excessive amplification. The result is that there is still plenty of activity for normal response and cellular activity. They are also capable of up-regulating protective pathways, targeting tumor cells, enhancing immune activity, and functioning as selective redox-antioxidants—inducing oxidative damage to cancer cells while protecting the health of normal cells. Botanical compounds also reduce mutagenicity of many of the main players in oncogene and tumor suppressor gene mutation, such as the p53 tumor suppressor gene.

Integrating Botanicals with Conventional Therapies In The Treatment Of Cancer

Today, the tide is shifting in the way we view cancer, and as a result, in the ways cancer is treated, even with conventional drugs. The basis of using multi-drug therapy is the recognition that for each disease process, there is more than one mechanism and gene involved. For example, in pancreatic cancer, in the great majority of cell types there is a global genomic analysis that demonstrates at least 12 partially overlapping processes that are genetically altered. Even if you do find the “needle in the haystack” or a “driver” rather than a “passenger” in regard to the cancer, there are a multitude of “co-conspirators”, and the cancer intellect is continually mutating to gain an edge for strength, control, proliferation and metastasis. The pathways that are altered, both intra and extra cellular, as well as in the membrane in any individual tumor, vary widely. This has been documented in all cancers, and in particular Glioblastoma multiforme, which is the most common and lethal type of brain cancer.9 This is why a multi-targeted approach is necessary and the basis for how botanicals can provide a significant advantage.

7 Ayurvedic Herbs that Destroy Colon & Other Cancers Fast

 | Naturalsociety

cancer herbsNumerous Ayurvedic texts speak of ways to treat cancers of the colon and digestive system. Two texts which were written around 700 BC are classic wisdom from the sister science of yoga – the Charakaand Sushruta Samhita. Both are suggested as being an imbalance in one of the doshas (Vata, Pitta, Kapha) which describe general physiological states in people throughout the world. Once the doshas are returned to balance, then cancer and other diseases disappear from the body.

The following 7 herbs are used in Ayurveda to bring balance to the doshas, helping to minimize or completely eradicate colon cancer.

1. Ashwagandha

Due to being an adaptogen, this herb is used for literally hundreds of ailments in Ayurvedic medicine. It ‘intuits’ where your body needs support and provides it. Ashwagandha increases our resistance to stress while increasing energy levels, freeing up the body’s systems to scavenge rouge cells.

According to research conducted on the herb, ashwagandha helps in the slowing down of the growth of the cancer cells and inhibits the growth of tumor cells without harming the good cells.

2. Garlic

Numerous double-blind studies have shown that garlic is a powerful herb for treating cancer. Naturopaths have been using raw garlic, and even garlic juice or soups, to treat cancer for ages. Garlic has even proven to kill brain cancer cells (in addition to colon cancers) without harming healthy cells, and with no side effects. Add some onions and broccoli, and you’ve got a cancer fighting power-house.

It is also a staple of the Ayurvedic herbal medicine cabinet. Check out the health benefits of garlic, here.

3. Green Tea

Green tea isn’t just a social grace, but a healing remedy for colon and other cancers. Not only does it inhibit the formation of cancerous cells, but the catechin polyphenols within can even kill cancerous cells without harming healthy cells. By drinking green tea regularly, you can eradicate colon tumors while they are in their most infant stages.

4. Celandine

A member of the poppy plant family, celandine has been known to treat colon cancer as well. It also boosts the immune system so that cancer and other disease never have a chance to develop. Further, the herb treats diseases like asthma and atherosclerosis.

5. Aloe Vera & Apple Cider Vinegar Fasts

While these two herbal remedies act together primarily as a means to cleanse the colon, thereby eliminating toxins which could accumulate in the digestive tract causing disease, they are also great anti-inflammatory agents.

The benefits of Apple Cider Vinegar (ACV) cannot be understated. It helps with candida overgrowth (also shown to contribute to many cancers) and lowers blood glucose levels. Aloe Vera juice has been shown to help people who have tried numerous pharmaceutical meds – folfox, xeloda, avastin and other chemotherapies to no avail.

6. Ginger Root

An Ayurvedic staple, ginger is used in many Indian dishes. Inflammation markers that have been earlier proved in clinical research as precursors to colon cancer can be reduced significantly by the consumption of ginger powder or ginger roots. A powerful anti-inflammatory, ginger soothes and heals the digestive tract, and therefore has been suggested as one of the best home remedies for the treatment of colon cancer.

In one study, Suzanna M. Zick, N.D., M.P.H, enrolled 30 patients and randomly assigned them to two grams of ginger root supplements per day or placebo for 28 days. She had astoundingly positive results. Zick commented that:

“We need to apply the same rigor to the sorts of questions about the effect of ginger root that we apply to other clinical trial research. Interest in this is only going to increase as people look for ways to prevent cancer that are nontoxic, and improve their quality of life in a cost-effective way.”

Ginger has also destroyed ovarian and prostate cancer cells in other studies.

7. Turmeric

If you haven’t heard of this herb by now, you’ve likely been living under a rock. The compounds in Turmeric can heal just about anything. Curcumins found in turmeric roots cause colon cancer cells to self-destruct. Astounding results were found when testing turmeric’s ability to destroy cancer cells at the Department of Surgery, Dalhousie University, Halifax, Nova Scotia, Canada.

Sure, you can turn to chemotherapy for your colon cancer, which causes your hair to fall out, your insides to feel like they won’t stop being regurgitated, and your energy to be completely devastated. You can also try invasive surgery – all for the bargain basement price of several to twenty thousand dollars.

Or you can start taking these Ayurvedic herbal remedies that have been around for thousands of years and proven through time for mere pennies.

Nearly Forgotten Remedy for Cancer and More: Essiac Tea

Paul Fassa | NaturalSociety

Essiac Tea has been an almost forgotten cancer ‘remedy’ lately since the rising tide of awareness with other cancer treatments. In other words, the Essiac PR department has been overwhelmed by all the other positive alternative press on actually effective, safe cancer solutions to the point of almost disappearing. Late in 2013, Christina Sarich had an Essiac article published on Natural Society which provided the very necessary original basic formula in her article, though I do wish to add more to her information – namely herbal sources and a fascinating interview of Dr. Gary Glum, who recovered the formula Rene Caisse (pronounced reen case) used. Yes, Essiac is Caisse spelled backward.

The Powers of Essiac Tea

While the tea has been used by thousands to help eradicate cancer, Essiac Tea is not just for cancer. Dr. Glum used it for some AIDS patients when pharmaceutical AZT was killing most others. He also used it to treat a child who was expected to die from leukemia in days, and his wife was able to get off thyroid medications by using Essiac Tea.

Dr. Glum, formerly a Los Angeles chiropractor specializing in sports medicine, explains what he did and how he acquired the information for the recipe and his subsequent harassment after self-publishing his book Calling of an Angel: The True Story of Rene Caisse and an Indian Herbal Medicine Called Essiac, Nature’s Cure for Cancer. Here’s that fascinating interview.

A few things about Essiac demand critical attention: the quality of the herbs is crucial. Many off the shelf prepared teas are bogus, often made with irradiated herbs or with herbs that replaced one or more herbs of the original formula, which should be the four herb formula Rene Caisse used only. Even if properly made with half decent herbs, it’s not fresh and is capable of spoiling. And it costs much more per dose than making your own.

These off the shelf products are what many who have complained of no results usually purchase. You should order the herbs from someone reputable who uses non-irradiated, organic or wild crafted herbs used in the original four herb formula (see Christina’s article) and includes the cell cancer killing sheep sorrel plant powder, complete with root.

But you don’t need to go shopping for the herbs or grow your own for starters. Some providers offer the powdered herbs in separate packages and others blend them together in one package. They include directions on how to make one or two gallons of Essiac Tea with prices ranging from 15 to 30 dollars. If you find one who does not include sheep sorrel root powder, find another that does. My personal favorite reliable source is here, where I order one or two ounce packages of Essiac Tea powders.

The brewed tea is stored in the fridge and a couple of two ounce doses daily are recommended, less for maintenance or prevention, more with almost time for hospice cases. It’s safe enough to take more depending on one’s condition. Although many consider Essiac Tea for cancer be used with one or more other natural remedies, here’s a fascinating experience with Essiac Tea alone with multiple cases.
