After seeing this news, I decided this is the type of town I want to live in! You may feel the same, too. The UN Sustainable Development Solutions Network has pioneered a new footprint for eco-villages that makes housing more affordable, and organic food more accessible for people in Malaysia.

Utilizing high-tech construction to create ecological ‘smart-villages,’ many rural families can expect to increase their monthly income 3-fold while living in an integrated, sustainable farm system that includes a communal farming operation of aquaponics, grain-fields watered from the fish tanks with ‘high-cost’ plants, trees, and special technology in ‘autopots’ that reduce the need for pesticides and fertilizers.

The land also includes 1000-square foot homes that are easy and inexpensive to build as well as compost sites and chicken coops that feed off the compost worms. The villages are also run on bio-mass and solar energy so they are almost entirely self-sufficient, reduce waste, and optimize nutrient absorption for plants on land that was previously considered non-arable.

As if all this sustainability wasn’t enough – the villages don’t go without modern creature comforts, such as 4G Internet service for ‘e-learning,’ playgrounds, and a community centers for meetings.

New planned communities like these are popping up all over the world in response to our global need to live differently and more sustainably.

  • Vancouver, Canada plans to be a totally green city by 2020 with strict green building codes and the use of more electric vehicles.
  • In Oslo, Norway, the land is almost two-thirds covered with protected forests, waterways, and sustainable farmland.
  • Copenhagen, Denmark has over 43 miles of bike lanes to cut down car traffic and emissions, and off-shore wind farm is in planning stages.

As Jefferey Jaxen wrote for Natural Society in a piece outlining how important it is for our collective future for everyone to grow their own food:

“The answer for many of society’s problems can be found by walking in the opposite direction of the current push for further centralization being sold in many aspects of our life. Indeed, it is because of the centralization of the food system that we are now vulnerable to supply chain disruptions that can come from a variety of sources, instantly crippling unprepared communities.

In addition, a centralized food supply allows large corporations to monopolize the food sources while diminishing our rights and lessening the quality. As this has happened, answers began appearing like the seven acre Beacon Hill site in Seattle which made headlines in 2009 with plans for the first free open Food Forest within city limits. Simultaneously, the commonsense concept gained momentum through many cities across America.”

Changes are happening everywhere. Is your community making changes that reflect these values?

  1. freespeech@gustr.com' "Smart cities" and "slow growth cities" are in fact, the UN Agenda 21: wake up says:

    http://www.democratsagainstunagenda21.com/

    http://www.postsustainibilityinstitute.org

liberty-minded folks, wake up. we investigated this issue further and ….. as well in our own and many cities t hroughout the country,
we are fighting and standing up to the “smart”
and false sustainable development, as well
as “re-develoment”. part of the un agenda 21 is to reduce and restrict the ability of residents right
TO PROPERTY, TRANSPORTATION (their propaganda is to ELIMINATE 2 car lanes to squeeze a 1-car lane, to manufacture a bike lane), PRIVACY, etc.

unfortunately, it’s about top-down 1% percent control again even in t he “sustainability movement”
as locales move towards necessary resiliency, 1% will
shamefully, still try to vy for control. yet, it won’t work in the Fifth World we are emerging into.

“If it’s too good to be true, then it is”

    we always ask first,
    “what is the motivation?”
    “follow the money”

    http://www.stopsmartmeters.org
the violations of the “smart grids” that have
    cost many taxpaying
Americans their health, even lives (mulitiple deaths from the “smartgrid meters” due to explosions into
fire), privacy integriy). big lawsuits have been filed to compensate and pull the plug on smart meters.

(thanks again to cln for the posts).

  2. investigations and information on the hidden motivations/agenda
    behind the bike lines:

‘Bikes. What does that have to do with it? I like to ride my bike and so do you. So what? Bicycle advocacy groups are very powerful now. Advocacy. A fancy word for lobbying, influencing, and maybe strong-arming the public and politicians. What’s the conection with bike groups? National groups such as Complete Streets, Thunderhead Alliance, and others, have training programs teaching their members how to pressure for redevelopment, and training candidates for office. It’s not just about bike lanes, it’s about remaking cities and rural areas to the ‘sustainable model’. High density urban development without parking for cars is the goal. This means that whole towns need to be demolished and rebuilt in the image of sustainable development. Bike groups are being used as the ‘shock troops’ for this plan.’

Check the goals: you’ll see that it is a UN Agenda 21 guideline document. Here’s an example from Marin County, CA And by the way, that logo at the top? The one with the three overlapping circles? That is the logo of UN Agenda 21. It stands for Social Equity, Economy, and Ecology; the basis of Sustainable Development. Pretty, isn’t it?

  3. ‘High density urban development without parking for cars is the goal. This means that whole towns need to be demolished and rebuilt in the image of sustainable development. Bike groups are being used as the ‘shock troops’ for this plan.’

This type of insanity and lunacy is happening
right in our city-town. There is now, NO PARKING for
cars and therefore, what once was a free-flowing
2-car lane is now a tightly-squeezed single car lane,
almost bumper to bumper traffic. Near hit misses
    AT bicyclists and pedestrians.

Before any blogger, writer, or journalist advocates, supports,
or encourages an action, please do some more research, especially
here in America (add China to the mix, they’re in the fire too) ..
it’s a responsibility. Consicence is also about telling the
truth when it’s hard to swallow andwhen people may not accept, at first. You’ll make the jobs of people like us, who are fighting
the battles (for many) like the Unconstitutional “UN (non) sustainability plan (scheme)” easier … and therefore,
    less complicated for the rest.

We’ve come a long way from 9-11 gate.

  4. the “sustainable develoment” plan, if you allow it,
will demolish your own city and town’s HISTORICAL legacies and
small town, mom and pop businesses in favor of corporatized
franchises/corporate “boutique shops” …. sterile/cold/uniform/rectangular buildings with no
    town character.

they are now attempting to lure and persuade Residents to knock down the city-town’s historical businesses
in favor of “mall”, (sustainable or low-income) condorow housing (how much more water drained away will that add to the drought problem?), etc.

you can check and see if ICLEI or any development outfits is running your town or city council. then, take action.

  5. this author writes about “4G internet”.
does she even realize the issues regarding wireless radiation, current frequencies that are degrading cellular health and controversey? has she done her research? who does she work for?

4G is classified as 2nd class MICROWAVE radiation.

current wireless “technology”, unfortunately, right now has not been unchecked.
