  1.' Oakey McKnight says:

Just for the sake of argument: What if a faith based, wing-nut statement turns out to be true?
Specifically: Space has been expanding since the Big Bang; expanding, not just at the edges, at the frontier, but in every dimension; not just externally but internally. The distance between the atoms of the measuring rod, between the electrons & the protons, has been expanding; from the plasma of the first +300,000 years to the cool, 14 billion light-year diameter universe of today, so that the very concept of distance is relative.
Therefore, in the snap of a parsec, the very concept of time is, in this sense, relative and some clock set ticking at the instant of the Big Bang could, indeed, read 266 billion seconds – or 8600 years. Our measurements of the cosmos are certainly useful to our present understanding. But if they lead us to claim absolute truth or certain knowledge then we are as blind as the Bishop of Usher.
