From Regrets to Grace – Your Heart Knows the Way

Sandra Miniere | all things healing

While trying to meditate, I could not get my mind quiet. I was thinking about all of the people who had problems: one person with cancer; one person with financial issues, career issues of my own, and so on. I put my head in my hands and said to myself, “You are acting like all of this is real. Based on what you believe, you forgot this is the dream.”Suddenly, I realized I was stuck in attachment and began laughing out loud. In my mind’s eye, I saw Buddha laughing with me.

None of my concerns mattered when I observed them from the perspective of eternity. The freedom, peace and expansion of non-attachment dropped into my awareness and body. In that epiphany, I dropped those problems like a hot potato and committed, once again, to living my life without judging myself and needing to fix things. When I embraced “nothing matters,” I went from resisting to accepting the divine order in life. I felt uplifted and ecstatic.

When you embrace non-attachment, you are not giving up the need to create goals, take action, be in relationships, protect your health and more. You continue to do what you are here to do but without feeling emotionally attached to outcomes. “Nothing matters” is a phrase that changes your perception about a challenge and replaces inner turmoil with inner peace.

Of course, you may be saying this is nonsense because my kids matter, finances matter, health matters, social issues matter, and relationships matter. And, they do at the material level. In the material realm there are consequences to how you think, feel and act but in the spiritual realm a divine loving Presence lifts you above human concerns. Non-attachment is a spiritual resource that positively affects your mind, feelings and body.

Here are four strategies to master an attitude of non-attachment:

Lighten up – A lifetime is a dash through time and space when you place it in eternity. Remind yourself that you are doing your best, and that is good enough. The Prodigal Son received a banquet on his return to God and so will you.

Laugh – Laughter frees you from getting stuck in negative emotions and changes your perception of a situation. It lifts you above the conflict and striving. Although the shift may be temporary, you are practicing and mastering non-attachment.

Love – When you see yourself and your life through the eyes of Unconditional Love, you will let go of judging yourself and your life and just take action. You cannot make mistakes so stop trying so hard to be “perfect.” You already are perfectly human.

Let go – As you gain trust in a divine right order, you are more likely to let things be as they are. This perception allows you to visualize, plan and take action without the need to control or criticize. The belief that “all is evolving toward a greater good” allows you to let go and let a Higher Power take charge of the things you cannot change.
