For centuries people have used crystals to fix ailments, believing they could cure everything from headaches to muscle cramps and blood problems.

In recent years crystals have come back into fashion, and while some people buy them merely to accessorise, others have started using them for traditional healing.

Holistic nutritionist, Samantha Sargent, is among those who believe that crystals can help people in a number of ways — including by making their skin better.

‘I’m a big believer that if something has been around since time began there is some efficiency to it,’ she told Daily Mail. 

‘Nature knows best. There is also a place for validity in science but there is so much we don’t know about nature.’

She said that while she knows some people think the concept is a little hippy, more people are realising that there are benefits to crystal therapy.

‘You don’t have to wear tie dye and not bathe, you can still embrace nature and crystals and be yourself,’ the nutritionist said.

Ms Sargent explained that crystals like rose quartz, for example, are good for reducing inflamed skin and gently cleansing, whereas emeralds are good for rejuvenating skin and tightening it.
