Award-Winning Musician and “Sound Scientist” Steven Halpern sheds light on the shadow of words and how they influence us.
“It was damaging to my spirit.” These are the words that one woman used to detail her experience as she stood sealed up in a small secluded studio booth while recording a contracted audiobook that she described as simply “disgusting.”
But would simply speaking words into a microphone (in essence, playing a part) be enough to send our body, mind, and spirit into utter turmoil? According to Grammy nominated new age recording artist and who I aptly refer to as the sound scientist Steven Halpern, the answer is unequivocally yes!
I spoke with Steven after having a very disturbing and concerning conversation with a friend and colleague (I too am a voiceover artist) about her journey down the dark road of negative and destructive words and how her world was literally turned upside down after recording an audiobook that was laden with profanity, along with scenarios of gang rape, prostitution, drugs, and more.
Immediately after hearing my friend’s account, I cautioned her not to go any further – to break her contract, and thereby avoid the possibility of breaking her own spirit.
Thankfully she had the presence of mind to approach her agent and request to back out of the audiobook contract that would have paid her quite well, not to mention a slew of subsequent books in this series that her agent was willing to sign over to her for recording.
These books (and the titles and authors shall go unnamed) have enjoyed a good measure of popularity, so-much-so that they were able to contract with a prominent NY booking agent which is how they landed on my friend’s radar. And this fact is disturbing in and of itself!
The question becomes, why is this so? And are there factions who are intent on weaponizing words – that is using certain words and scenarios to provoke violence and further division?
Halpern commented on the recent trend of promoting hate speech as a method of social engineering and a way to seal the deal of ultimate divide and conquer…
“With all this stuff that’s coming out now about free speech vs. hate speech and of course every time [we have negative news] the media always sticks their photo on the TV screen…I can feel the negativity and the depression and the bad stuff that’s happening,” Halpern said, referencing as an example the recent event in Las Vegas.
That coupled with the narrative (the words) that are consistently repeated that are associated with the images, sets up in his words, an internal resonance that’s having a major effect on our overall being and it actually takes conscious effort to break that link.
So is there an agenda? Are words, and images for that matter, being weaponized? In that vein Halpern also hints that the media, at some level, are complicit in this widespread program. Although many on the lower (administrative echelons) may not know the full scope of the agenda, there are some at the top that certainly do.
Bottom line – if words are actually being used as a weapon, then what do some know that the rest of us don’t? And moreover just what is the science that proves that words are far more than just idle chatter?
This is a MUST-LISTEN Interview. Be sure to tune in to hear what Steven “The Sound Scientist” Halpern had to say!
