What an incredible difference a year makes. Last year at this time, Congress had just passed the Monsanto Protection Act and it was signed into law by President Obama on March 26, 2013. Six months later, after hundreds of thousands of phone calls and emails by people like you, Congress repealed the Monsanto Protection Act as a direct result of your actions.
Today, on the eve of the second annual March Against Monsanto, farmers and activists are celebrating recent victories in Vermont, where the 1st no-strings-attached GMO labeling bill was signed into law by Governor Shumlin. And only days ago, farmers and activists in Jackson and Josephine counties crushed GMO seed and chemical giants Monsanto, Syngenta and Dow Chemical with a ban on GMOs from being planted in their counties. There are incredible victories, but this is just the beginning.
Today, Food Democracy Now! is calling on you to join the global March Against Monsanto in an effort to stand up for our democratic rights and protect the planet from Monsanto’s toxic influence.
Why we’re marching: To Stop the Continued Corruption of Our Democracy, the Poisoning of Our Environment, the Loss of Biodiversity and the Continued Assault on the Basic Rights of Farmers and Citizens Around the World.
Read about Monsanto's corrupt history in The March to Stop Monsanto Huffington Post article published last year by our founder Dave Murphy
The problem with Monsanto is not just their corrosive lobbying practices, but the fact that the products they produce, genetically engineered foods and chemical weedkillers, are in more than 75% of the processed foods that we eat and feed our families everyday.
In terms of corruption and consumption, Monsanto’s reach is global. And it must be stopped!

Despite these recent victories, we know that Monsanto and their allies in the junk food and chemical industry won't give up easily. Already, they're working behind closed doors to once again to undermine our basic rights in their pursuit of poisoned profits in Congress and on a global scale.
Monsanto Manipulates Global Trade and Undermines Free Markets: Stop the Global Monsanto Protection Act
While Americans can currently celebrate the death of the original Monsanto Protection Act, another, more sinister threat looms over the horizon.
If you thought the Monsanto Protection Act was bad, the secret trade deals called the TPP and TAFTA are a global nightmare. Right now two secret trade agreements, known as the Trans-Pacific Partnership (TPP) and Trans-Atlantic Free Trade Agreement (TAFTA), also called the Trans-Atlantic Trade and Investment Partnership (TTIP) are being finalized for fast-track approval in the U.S.
Today Monsanto and more than 600 other multinational corporations and industry front groups are working hand in glove with the Obama administration to draft secret global trade agreements that will undermine the democratic rule of law and place our legal protections in the hands of shady corporate lobbyists.
If allowed to pass, these secret trade agreements would impose punishing restrictions on local democracy, giving multinational corporations like Monsanto and the biotech industry the unprecedented right to demand taxpayer compensation for policies that corporations deem a barrier to their profits – like GMO labeling.
We need your help to stop this today!
Join Food Democracy Now! in halting the approval to the Global Monsanto Protection Act.
