The Las Vegas Shootings and Premonition – What Does it All Mean?

After what is being called “The deadliest mass shooting in modern U.S. history,” some individuals are telling of their disturbing premonitions prior to the event. What does this all mean?

Las Vegas Shooting Premonitions

“I was feeling very emotional, bordering on suicidal yesterday. I don’t have a TV and didn’t here the news until the evening.”

This is what one person told me she was feeling prior to the horrific event that has now taken 1st place in the un-enviable position of being the deadliest shooting in modern U.S. history.

The Las Vegas “massacre” as some news outlets are calling it, rocked the headlines beginning early Monday morning when a lone gunman reportedly opened fire on a crowd of enthusiastic fans taking in a country music concert as part of the Route 91 Harvest Country Music Festival. At press-time it is reported that 59 people are dead and over 500 are wounded.

Where the facts of this horrific event are still murky and unfolding as we speak, one thing is for sure – there were some, myself included, who had an eery sense that something big was about to happen.

“I went to bed two hours early [Sunday night]. Turned out the shooting happened just as I was feeling an unusual need to go to sleep,” said another individual who posted a comment on the Higher Journeys Facebook page about a strange sense prior to the shooting.

Premonitions or precognitions as they are also called are simply described as spontaneous foreknowledge – particularly a warning that something important, and sometimes tragic, is about to transpire.

Physician and consciousness researcher Larry Dossey wrote about the phenomenon in his 2009 book The Power of Premonitions – How Knowing the Future Can Shape Our Lives.

In it he cites the work of the Rhine Research Center (RRC) in Durham, North Carolina, an organization that houses one of the largest collections of ESP cases in the world.

“Although reports trickle in [to the RRC] at a steady rate, they flooded in following September 11, 2001. In fact, the events of 9/11 generated the largest outpouring of disaster premonitions ever received at the RRC related to a public national catastrophe,” Dossey wrote.

It’s fascinating that prior to a large scale catastrophic event, so many will involuntarily plug in to what has been called “the field,” and pluck out information that has yet to play out on our screen of time and space.

But Dossey says that many of these premonitions will be couched in symbolism, particularly when they are conveyed in dreams.

Such was the case, I sense, with what could have been my own preternatural and disturbing dream the night before the Las Vegas shooting.

I was in what appeared to be a hotel or large structure with many people around me. The place had a sort of resort feel to it, and it faced the ocean. Many of us, looking through large scale windows noticed a huge wave coming swiftly toward us. What looked to be a tidal wave or tsunami was heading our way and we knew it would hit the building. Once we realized that a crash into the structure would be inevitable, we quickly ran to the other side of the building, hoping to avoid a calamitous impact. I recall leaning against an opposite wall with an elevator close by – holding on to the wall for dear life. Seconds later, impact! Though the building shook violently, the structure remained intact. My next thought was, “another will be coming – and then another…” And it did – all three in quick succession!

Many in the field of dream research feel that precognitive dreams will often mask themselves, not only in symbolism but in metaphor. In the case of this dream, I reasoned that perhaps the wave signified a string (or wave) of events unfolding rather than a literal wave of water or tsunami crashing into buildings – one of which being the catastrophe in Las Vegas.

Synchronicity researcher and author Trish MacGregor agreed. “I think your interpretation of the dream sounds right – ‘waves’ of events,” after I had emailed her about my latest pre-cog.

Though we cannot say for sure just how and why premonitions happen, it is well known that they do and have throughout human history.

At this juncture, I’d also like to add that not all premonitions are “bad.” Many can be exciting (like foreknowledge of winning the lottery) or even mundane (say you dreamt that your neighbor cut down a tree and the next day you walk outside to see him walking toward your favorite pine with an axe!)

As for what this all means, I think Larry Dossey says it best…

“…open yourself up to the possibility of premonitions and the evidence supporting them. Listen to the stories people tell. Explore the research that demonstrates our capacity to sense the future. Ponder the implications of mind outside of time. Invite premonitions into your life and see what happens. If you do so humbly and reverently, your life will likely become more premonition- prone, and you may touch that exquisite infinite realm to which premonitions, now as always are a door.”
