In most hospitals, there is a strict ‘no pet’ rule that all visitors – including those in pain and dying – must adhere to. Fortunately for a man named Ryan Jessen and his loyal pup, Mollie, a California hospital allowed them to bend the rules.

According to a Facebook post posted by his sister, Michelle, Ryan went to the hospital when he thought he had an intense migraine. As it turns out, he was suffering from a ventricular brain hemorrhage. That diagnosis didn’t give him long to live, sadly.

During his final days, the hospital allowed his furry best friend to visit. The emotional video below shows Ryan and the canine saying goodbye.

The young man passed away on November 30th and his organs were donated. Though not everything that happens may be good, positive things can come out of misfortune. This was made evident when the very next day, a 17-year-old from California – whose birthday is on Christmas day – received Ryan’s heart. As for Mollie, the dog will stay with his family.

“We’re keeping her!!! She’s part of the family,” wrote Michelle.
