However, there are reports of homeopathic preparations causing side effects on children. It may be that the products were not sufficiently diluted, which could lead to toxicity. Children may lose their sense of smell if a cold remedy containing zinc is used, which means that the patient may be highly allergic to the main ingredient. Or may have had earlier reactions to the ingredients used in producing the cure. Also, heavy metals might have been used; this is not advised for a child's consumption. Most homeopathic products meant for children are diluted with honey to reduce the power of the active ingredient. Note that children below twelve years old should never be given honey. If the homeopathic medication is diluted with alcohol, it should never be administered to children.
