One of the best remedies for a broken heart is to get outside and help others. This is exactly what a man name Mike Connell did after his wife of 25 years passed away. SchleppFilms relays that the New Yorker honored his former partnership by dressing up as Santa Claus and delivering “blessing bags” to homeless citizens in New York.

The good samaritan raised funds for the project by acquiring donations from people who wanted to take a picture with Santa. After shopping for non-perishable food items, toiletries, and warm clothing, he then took the time to wrap several packages to give away to others.

Connell wasn’t alone in his endeavor, either. Reportedly, the filmmaker’s 7-year-old son, Seamus McGuire, helped organize, package, and wrap the presents. The elf also wrote heartwarming messages inside the Christmas cards.

Homelessness is a pervasive issue that affects over 564,708 people in the United States alone. 15% of that population is considered to be chronically homeless, and about 8% of that statistic comprises veterans. There are presently more than enough resources to care for every individual on the planet, but activists like yourself have to “be the change” they want to see for conundrums such as this one to be remedied.
