Girl On Paddleboard High Fives A Manatee: Must-See Summer Video Will Make You Smile

Video Source: all around the web

Celine Chasteen and her friend were out paddleboarding in Florida this week when they were surprised by a local celebrity of sorts. A manatee who has been spotted before in the area couldn’t help but greet her after she and her friend were spotted in the water.

Chasteen told The Dodo:

“We were going along the coast and I saw what I thought were rocks, but then they started moving. The next thing I know, there’s a manatee putting his flippers on my board.”

What would you have done if a manatee dropped by like that? Celine was undoubtedly surprised, but as can be witnessed in the video, she kept her cool.

The interaction lasted only 30 seconds, but the manatee managed to win Chasteen over in that time. She said:

“At first, I was like, ‘What is going on?’ But honestly, it was so cool. I’ve never experienced anything like that before.”

“I thought he was really cute. He was really nice and stuff. I hope he drops by again,” she added.

The Florida Fish and Wildlife Conservation Commission would like to remind the public that it is illegal to touch manatees. Also, if a sea cow avoids you, do not attempt to chase it for a closer view.

  1. “The Florida Fish and Wildlife Conservation Commission would like to remind the public that it is illegal to touch manatees.”

Yes, it is cute. No, she shouldn’t have high-fived it. This video will cause others to want to have this experience too and could result in danger to human or animal. 🙁

  2. Enjoyed spraying fresh water on a manatee in Key West. He loved drinking the cool refreshment and the feel of the spray on his skin. What delightful animals.
