Do You Have a Fear of Clowns? Here’s What You Need to Know

Fear of clowns may go much deeper than you think. But what’s driving this angst and where is it coming from?

I’ve spoken with scores of individuals who cringe at the very thought of being in the presence of a clown.

The fear of clowns, also known as coulrophobia is a condition that although psychologists feel to be somewhat rare, is a very real anxiety for many individuals worldwide.

But where does this fear emanate?

Assumed to be innocent, fun loving caricatures of entertainment, clowns have also been more recently depicted as evil tricksters, as portrayed for example in Stephen King’s cult classic movie – It.

According to some researchers including regression therapist and E.T. contact researcher Mary Rodwell, the image of clowns may actually be in some cases a screen memory imposed on those who have had contact with non-human intelligence.

Mary shared one account of a gentleman who had a motorcycle accident and experienced complete memory loss during the event. He agreed to have Mary regress him to see if he could recover any details of the “accident.”

Once under hypnosis, he described a being approaching him and as he looked down he noticed the being was wearing clown shoes. Mary then asked him to look closer at the being and describe what he was seeing. Upon close examination he realized that the “clown shoes” were a sort of mask and that what he was actually seeing was something non-human in origin.

Though not all clown fears originate from ET contact, there may be some validity to the idea that those who have had interactions with non-human intelligence may indeed choose to remember something very different in order to protect themselves from the shock of interacting with something completely unfamiliar.

“Contact experiences can manifest as seeing images of Father Christmas or clowns – screen memories for extraterrestrial beings,” Mary explains.

Interesting that alongside the fear of clowns, another seemingly strange and yet very real fear for some is that of Santa Claus or “Father Christmas.”

Other images like that of animals (e.g. cats and dogs), or even little children have been described initially by some who have been regressed but eventually they reveal a very different encounter – that with extraterrestrials.
