An Unusual Review of Literature — Starting with The Hobbit
My nephew introduced me to Thug Notes on YouTube the other day — I was so impressed I almost leapt out of my skin with excitement!
My first impression was…‘is this for real?'
Here's this ‘gangsta-type-dude' sitting in an armchair, kitted out in his bling with a street-wise attitude, discussing some hard-core literature — how could this be right?
Gobsmacking Surprises Wrapped in Deceiving Appearances
Well, as the saying goes: Don't judge a book by its cover!
This guy not only gives one of the most amusing reviews of J.R.R. Tolkien's ‘The Hobbit' that I have ever heard but he delivers it to the youth in a language that they understand.
You can watch the video clip below and I do recommend that you stay with it for the full 4:47 minutes to absorb its entire value. It may seem a bit hard and heavy in the beginning but it's going to blow your socks off with the ending (Hint: It's got to do with one of the seven deadly sins)!
Here's the Thug Notes review for The Hobbit — enjoy!:
Hope for the New Generation?
In his analysis he starts to rip into the moral implications of the story with some startling and succinct accuracy.
He discusses — in his own hilarious lingo — the destructive nature of greed, the commendable courage of Bilbo and the deadly implications of having friend turn on friend.
I think that this kind of ingenious thinking out of the box — to penetrate the youth on a subliminal level — is just astounding.
- What did you think of this review and the whole Thug Notes concept?
- Do you know of other people who are inspiring the youth to read or become more morally connected to each other? If so, please share in the comments below.
He also has a lot more other book reviews out on YouTube but I haven't had a chance to watch them yet but I most definitely intend to!
How many ‘likes' can this guy get? I think he is fantastic!
