From Indonesia To Turkey New Archaeological Discoveries Uncover The Mysteries Of A Lost Civilization

“Everything we’ve been taught about the origins of civilization may be wrong,” says Danny Natawidjaja, PhD, senior geologist with the Research Centre for Geotechnology at the Indonesian Institute of Sciences. “Old stories about Atlantis and other great lost civilizations of prehistory, long dismissed as myths by archaeologists, look set to be proved true.”

New Study Dramatically Changes Where We Believe Aliens Might Live

A team of astrobiologists has redefined conventional notions of where life can exist within a solar system. They’ve suggested that life could exist inside planets with inhospitable surfaces. Dubbed “subsurface habitable zones,” this new definition of habitable zones means that alien life may be far more prevalent than we ever imagined.

Babies Know What Makes a Friend

Babies as young as 9 months old know that friends usually have similar interests, new research suggests. The new study, published online January in the Journal of Experimental Psychology: General, shows that babies who are too young to talk still have a set of abstract expectations about the social world.

New Evidence That Plants Get Their Energy Using Quantum Entanglement

Biophysicists theorize that plants tap into the eerie world of quantum entanglement during photosynthesis. But the evidence to date has been purely circumstantial. Now, scientists have discovered a feature of plants that cannot be explained by classical physics alone — but which quantum mechanics answers quite nicely. The fact that biological systems can exploit quantum effects is quite astounding. In a way, they’re like mini-quantum computers capable of scanning all possible options in order to choose the most efficient paths or solutions. For plants, this means the ability to make the most of the energy they receive and then deliver that energy from leaves with near perfect efficiency.

‘Hand Of God’ NASA Image Shows Exploded Star

A new image of the pulsar wind nebula known as the ‘Hand of God’ has been captured by US space agency NASA’s Nuclear Spectroscopic Telescope Array (NuSTAR). The photograph captured by the telescope shows the nebula 17,000 light-years away, which is powered by a dead, spinning star called PSR B1509-58. The pulsar itself is just 19 kilometres long, but spins around nearly seven times every second.

Life On Other Planets Could Be Far More Widespread, Study Finds

Earth-sized planets can support life at least ten times further away from stars than previously thought, according to academics at the University of Aberdeen. A new paper published in Planetary and Space Science claims cold rocky planets previously considered uninhabitable may actually be able to support life beneath the surface.

Where Your Body ‘Feels’ Emotions Revealed In New Study

Scientists have long known that common emotions can trigger sensations in our bodies — whether it’s butterflies in the stomach (anxiety) or hot cheeks (shame). And now a new study suggests that we all have the same bodily sensations associated with our feelings regardless of culture or language — because the mind-body connection is biological, and is linked to our very drive for survival.
