Robert De Niro and Robert F. Kennedy Jr. Offer $100,000 to Anyone Who Can Prove THIS is Safe

By Robert F. Kennedy and Robert De Niro | EcoWatch

On the occasion of our announcement of the World Mercury Project’s $100K challenge, we want to address America’s reporters, journalists, columnists, editors, network anchors, on-air doctors and news division producers.

We especially want to reach out to those of you who have made a point of assuring the public about the safety of the mercury-based preservative, thimerosal. It’s our hope that this challenge will elevate this important debate beyond name calling and prompt a genuine examination of the relevant science. The American public is entitled to an honest, probing and vigorous discussion about this critical public health issue—a debate based on facts, not rooted in fear, or on blind faith in regulators and the pharmaceutical industry.

We are both pro-vaccine. We need to say this at the outset to contravene the reflexive public relations ploy of labeling every vaccine safety advocate “anti-vaccine.” As the British Medical Journal pointed out last week, that epithet is a derogatory attack designed to marginalize vaccine safety advocates and derail reasoned debate:

“It stigmatizes the mere act of even asking an open question about what is known and unknown about the safety of vaccines.”

Both of us had all of our children vaccinated and we support policies that promote vaccine coverage. We want vaccines that are as safe as possible, robust transparent science and vigorous oversight by independent regulators who are free from corrupting conflicts-of-interest.

Despite the cascade of recent science confirming that thimerosal is a potent neurotoxin that damages children’s brains, the American media has fiercely defended the orthodoxy that mercury-based vaccines are safe. We believe that even a meager effort at homework will expose that contention as unsupported by science. In just the past month, a Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) review confirmed thimerosal’s profound neurotoxicity and a Yale University study connected vaccines to neurological illnesses including OCD, anorexia and tics.

Journalists, we have discovered—even science and health journalists—don’t always read the science! On the vaccine issues, many of them have let government and industry officials tell them what the science supposedly says. Instead of questioning, digging and investigating, journalists, too often, have taken the easy course of repeating the safety assurances of the pharmaceutical industry and the regulators at CDC’s Immunization Safety Office, which they have good reason to doubt.

For example, in recent years, two federal reports by Congress and the inspector general of the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services have criticized the CDC for politicization of science and for corrupting conflicts of interest with the pharmaceutical industry (see also: UPI article on CDC corruption). In August 2014, CDC’s senior vaccine scientist, Dr. William Thompson, confessed that the CDC routinely manipulates data to conceal the links between vaccines and a host of neurological disorders. Some dozen other CDC scientists have since come forward to protest pervasive scientific fraud and research corruption at the CDC. Nevertheless, among American journalists, cult-like parroting of the CDC’s safety assurances has become a kind of lazy man’s science.

The fact that no major news organization has ever seriously investigated Dr. Thompson’s shocking charges since they became public two years ago must be characterized as a kind of journalistic malpractice. But, newspapers and electronic media outlets not only routinely ignore or suppress legitimate debate over vaccine safety or the ongoing corruption scandals at CDC, some of them openly advocate the censoring of questions about these taboo subjects. Instead of informed scientific argument, the debate has therefore deteriorated into “argument by credential” and, its corollary, “argument by insult”; public shaming, vilification, scorn and name calling, often directed toward the parents of injured children and others who question industry orthodoxies.

Financial conflicts with pharma are not unique to the CDC. Knowing that the pharmaceutical industry is by far the largest contributor of money to congressional lobbying, many Americans worry about the vigor of congressional oversight. They see how those political investments have purchased blanket immunity from lawsuits for vaccine makers. With lawyers and courts sidelined as a check and balance against bad behavior, and Congress and the regulatory agencies captured by the industry, many Americans wonder where the oversight of the vaccine program is coming from. They see the cascades of pharma money pouring into the American media—the final redoubt of critical scrutiny—and then wonder if journalistic vigilance has also been compromised.

We understand that the media’s silence on this issue is not simply a quid pro quo for the billions of dollars of annual pharmaceutical advertising flooding into our nation’s newspapers and network news divisions. Many reporters and media outlets accept muzzling on this issue as a necessary sacrifice for public health. They sincerely believe that even allowing debate about vaccine safety and CDC corruption will cause the public to stop vaccinating. We disagree.

As the late Bernadine Healy, former Director of the National Institutes of Health said, “Americans are smarter than that.” Healy believed that a vigorous and open debate would not diminish but rather strengthen the vaccine program. We agree. Studies show that the gravest impediment to broad vaccine coverage is public mistrust of government regulators. Therefore, to maximize vaccine acceptance, we need strong science, and a regulatory agency with unblemished integrity. Guaranteeing these objectives will require aggressive and persistent vigilance of the kind we won’t get if journalists and media organizations continue to muzzle debate and mouth talking points promoted by pharmaceutical interests.

Rather than strengthening public support for the vaccine program, the laws that shield the vaccine industry from lawsuits combined with the absence of political and press scrutiny, have emboldened the CDC and the vaccine companies to engage in increasingly reckless conduct.

In 2004, an U.S. Food and Drug Administration official acknowledged in testimony before a congressional committee, that no government or privately funded study has ever demonstrated thimerosal’s safety (Testimony of William Egan before the House Committee on Government Reform, July 18, 2000). On the other hand, there is plenty of science suggesting that thimerosal is NOT safe.

Johnson & Johnson Must Pay $72M for Cancer-causing Talcum Powder

By Jonathan Stempel | Reuters

BabyPowder-680x380

Johnson & Johnson (JNJ.N) was ordered by a Missouri state jury to pay $72 million of damages to the family of a woman whose death from ovarian cancer was linked to her use of the company’s talc-based Baby Powder and Shower to Shower for several decades.

In a verdict announced late Monday night, jurors in the circuit court of St. Louis awarded the family of Jacqueline Fox $10 million of actual damages and $62 million of punitive damages, according to the family’s lawyers and court records.

The verdict is the first by a U.S. jury to award damages over the claims, the lawyers said.

Johnson & Johnson faces claims that it, in an effort to boost sales, failed for decades to warn consumers that its talc-based products could cause cancer. About 1,000 cases have been filed in Missouri state court, and another 200 in New Jersey.

Fox, who lived in Birmingham, Alabama, claimed she used Baby Powder and Shower to Shower for feminine hygiene for more than 35 years before being diagnosed three years ago with ovarian cancer. She died in October at age 62.

Jurors found Johnson & Johnson liable for fraud, negligence and conspiracy, the family’s lawyers said. Deliberations lasted four hours, following a three-week trial.

Jere Beasley, a lawyer for Fox’s family, said Johnson & Johnson “knew as far back as the 1980s of the risk,” and yet resorted to “lying to the public, lying to the regulatory agencies.” He spoke on a conference call with journalists.

Carol Goodrich, a Johnson & Johnson spokeswoman, said: “We have no higher responsibility than the health and safety of consumers, and we are disappointed with the outcome of the trial. We sympathize with the plaintiff’s family but firmly believe the safety of cosmetic talc is supported by decades of scientific evidence.”

Trials in several other talc lawsuits have been set for later this year, according to Danielle Mason, who also represented Fox’s family at trial.

Scientific Breakthrough: The First Human Being To Live 1000 Years Is Alive Today

By: Simple Life Spot

Would you like to live forever?

I’m not sure if I want to, but at the same time, I’m not one of those people who think humans are better off dying at the average age of 70. There are too many books in my home that I need to read and too many places to go! What if I told you that science may have found a way to extend human life expectancy?

Aubrey de Grey, Cambridge University geneticist, believes that anyone under the age of 40 has the potential to live for a thousand years – that is, of course, if they don’t commit suicide or have an accident. This theory only applies to those who would otherwise die of natural causes. Aging is seen as a disease!

Related Article: Meet Anti-Aging Pioneer Aubrey de Grey: Massive Longevity Breakthroughs Are Coming Soon!

De Grey says,

I think we’re in striking distance of keeping people so healthy, that at 90 they’ll carry on waking up in the same physical state as they were at the age of 30.”

And, of course, de Grey would encounter opposition in his ambitious claims. Sherwin Nuland, former Yale School of Medicine, surgeon, doesn’t think it’s possible for humans to live this long.

Nuland says in reference to de Grey,

“His plan will not succeed. Were it to do so, it would undermine what it means to be human.”

Despite doubts, de Grey is not alone in his beliefs.

There are many people who desire for immortality, including numerous geneticists, nanotech experts, doctors and scientists. It is theoretically possible to slow down or even stop the aging process, according to scientists, and a goal we can hope to attain in order to benefit those who are alive today.

Immortality, it seems, is important to many people. Even the U.S. Government donates millions to the National Institute of Aging, part of the National Institute of Health. Funds go toward “the biology of aging”, not including cancer treatments or cardiac research.

Robert Freitas of the Institute for Molecular Manufacturing said,

“There are many different components of aging and we are chipping away at all of them.”

And Freitas believes we are close to the answer, the definite strategy for immortality. In fact, in two to four decades, the disease called “aging”, may be cured! Isn’t that wonderful?

Related Article: Secrets To Longevity Revealed: A Village Full Of Centenarians Share Their Miraculous Stories

In a way, yes. But there’s something you may be forgetting… overpopulation.

Nuland made a realization when dispelling immortality. I think even he knows it’s possible, just not feasible. While scientists are racing for the definite answer, I hope they are considering the obvious issue of overpopulation. After all, in some cities, there is no more room left, literally.

On the other hand, those who advocate for immortality and the science baking it, think a solution for overpopulation will come easy – say colonization of the moon, for instance.

And the government, as it always does, flips and flops on the issues, in that, while funding the research, some politicians fight to eliminate this same research. During Bush’s presidency, stem cell research was a sensitive topic, and funding was restricted in this area. Most believe this is another move to stop the search for the fountain of youth.

Beware: Top 5 Cancer Causing Kids Snacks

By: David Wolfe

kids lunch school

Companies market food directly to children through T.V. and radio commercials, the internet, magazines, toys, clothing, and even through product placement in movies and video games. The total amount of money spent on marketing food to children in order to actively influence their food choices is about $10 billion a year. $10 billion to ensure that kids pick the extra-sugary cereal with the movie character on the box, or the fruit snacks full of artificial preservatives that are shaped like animals from the zoo. Marketing to children works and the fact is that the overwhelming majority of marketing directed at children is for foods with poor nutritional quality that are potentially dangerous to their health. We know that most of these products fall into the “junk food” category, but how exactly are the ingredients in these snacks affecting our health?

Related article: Quick And Clean: 40 Non-Processed Snacks That Meet Your Need For Speed

Many of the popular snacks kids love contain artificial food coloring to make the food look more appealing to children – allowing them to “taste the rainbow” and have fun with their food. Yellow 5 (tartrazine) and Red 40 are just two of the commonly used food dyes made from petroleum, which is used to enhance products such as Fruit Loops, Jell-O, Kool-Aid, macaroni and cheese, popsicles, fruit roll-ups and Nutri-Grain cereal bars, just to name a few. These dyes have been linked to serious health problems, including cancer, hyperactivity, and allergic reactions.

Yellow 5 and Red 40 are two out of six food colorings that are banned in the UK, but U.S. companies still use them freely in their products. So much so, it is estimated that manufacturers in the U.S. put about 15 million pounds of eight different synthetic dyes into our foods each year. While the U.S. Food and Drug Administration acknowledges that food dyes can impair the behavior of some children, it has done nothing to remove them from our food supply. The list of products containing these dyes is almost endless, but here are a few to watch out for:

The Synchronicity Key: The Secret To Life’s True Origin Revealed

By: Lance Shuttler | The Mind Unleashed

One strand of DNA from one single cell contains enough information to clone an entire organism. Obviously, understanding DNA allows us to understand much about life and the universe around us. A deeper understanding of the new science tell us that DNA beings not as a molecule, but as a wave form. Even more interestingly, this wave form exists as a pattern within time and space and is coded throughout the entire universe.

We are surrounded by pulsating waves of invisible genetic information, whose waves create microscopic gravitational forces that pull in atoms and molecules from their surrounding environment to construct DNA.

Related Article: Breakthrough Study Reveals Yoga Positively Alters The Expression Of Your DNA For Better Health

One scientist who caught these microgravitational forces in their action is Dr. Sergey Leikin. In 2008, Leikin put different types of DNA in regular salt water and marked each type with a different fluorescent color and the DNA molecules were then scattered throughout the water. In the experiment’s major surprise, matching DNA molecules were found pairing together. After a short time, entire clusters of the same colored DNA molecules had formed. Leikin believes some sort of electromagnetic charge allowed the same colored molecules to cluster. However, other experiments show that this is not the case. That it is most likely to be gravity. Let us explain.

In 2011, Nobel Prize winner Dr. Luc Montagnier demonstrated that DNA can be spontaneously formed out of merely hydrogen and oxygen. He started out with a hermetically sealed tube of pure sterilized water and then placed another sealed tube next to it, which had small amounts of DNA floating in water. Montagnier then electrified both tubes with a weak, 7 hertz electromagnetic field and waited. 18 hours later, little pieces of DNA had grown in the original tube, which consisted of only pure sterilized water.

This new science tells us that the universe is constantly conspiring to make biological life, whenever and wherever it can. In any given area of the universe, these hidden microgravitational waves will begin gathering atoms and molecules together to create DNA, and thus, life.

Another phenomenal discovery was made when Dr. Fritz-Albert Popp caught DNA in the act of pulling in photons (tiny packets of energy that make up visible light). The new science reveals that photons are essential to the basic health and function of DNA and are apparently used to send and receive information throughout the body. He found that each DNA molecule stores up to 1,000 photons within itself, similar to that of a tiny fiber-optic cable. The photons shoot back and forth at the speed of light inside the molecule and are stored until they need to be used.

Related Article: Learn Why Artists Are The Necessary Mutation In The DNA Of Culture

In 1984, Russian scientist Dr. Peter Gariaev discovered that when a DNA molecule was placed inside a small quartz container, it naturally absorbed every photon in the room. A stunning analogy of this would be that of a single person standing in a large sports stadium and having every photon in the stadium somehow bending directly to that person, leaving that person’s body literally glowing with light, while the rest of the stadium goes completely dark.

In conventional science, the only force that can bend light is gravity and it is done only around a black hole. Thus, it appears DNA is generating a microgravitational effect that attracts and captures light. Looking back to the first experiment mentioned in this article by Dr. Leikin, we see that it is indeed likely not an electrical charge that forced or allowed the same DNA molecules to attract to one other, but is likely due to gravity, as electrical charges have never been able to bend light as it moves through space.

13 Natural Stress Solutions: Stimulate Your Vagus Nerve To Improve Your Mental Health

By: Jordan Fallis | Optimal Living Dynamics

“By developing an understanding of the workings of your vagus nerve, you may find it possible to work with your nervous system rather than feel trapped when it works against you.”

— Dr. Arielle Schwartz, Clinical Psychologist

Stimulating my vagus nerve has played a key role in the management of my mental health over the years.

What exactly is the vagus nerve?

The vagus nerve is the longest nerve in your body.

It connects your brain to many important organs throughout the body, including the gut (intestines, stomach), heart and lungs.

In fact, the word “vagus” means “wanderer” in Latin, which accurately represents how the nerve wanders all over the body and reaches various organs.

Related Article: Explore The Wonders Of The Vagus Nerve To Learn Natural Therapies For Epilepsy And Much More!

The vagus nerve is also a key part of your parasympathetic “rest and digest” nervous system. It influences your breathing, digestive function and heart rate, all of which can have a huge impact on your mental health.

But what you really need to pay special attention to is the “tone” of your vagus nerve.
Vagal tone is an internal biological process that represents the activity of the vagus nerve.

Increasing your vagal tone activates the parasympathetic nervous system, and having higher vagal tone means that your body can relax faster after stress.

In 2010, researchers discovered a positive feedback loop between high vagal tone, positive emotions, and good physical health. In other words, the more you increase your vagal tone, the more your physical and mental health will improve, and vice versa (5).

“It’s almost like yin and yang. The vagal response reduces stress. It reduces our heart rate and blood pressure. It changes the function of certain parts of the brain, stimulates digestion, all those things that happen when we are relaxed.”

— Dr. Mladen Golubic, MD, Medical Director of the Cleveland Clinic
How-to-Stimulate-Your-Vagus-Nerve-for-Better-Mental-Health-brain-vns-ways-treatment-activate-natural-foods-depression-anxiety-stress-heart-rate-variability-yoga-massage-vagal-tone-dysfunction

What’s interesting is that studies have even shown that vagal tone is passed on from mother to child. Mothers who are depressed, anxious and angry during their pregnancy have lower vagal activity. And once they give birth to their child, the newborn also has low vagal activity and low dopamine and serotonin levels (1-3).

Your vagal tone can be measured by tracking certain biological processes such as your heart rate, your breathing rate, and your heart rate variability (HRV).

When your heart rate variability (HRV) is high, your vagal tone is also high. They are correlated with each other (53-55).

You can increase your HRV by using the EmWave2 device.

Some researchers actually use the EmWave2 to measure vagal tone in their studies.

If you’re vagal tone is low, don’t worry – you can take steps to increase it by stimulating your vagus nerve. This will allow you to more effectively respond to the emotional and physiological symptoms of your brain and mental illness.

I’ve seen it firsthand with a number of clients.

Stimulating the vagus nerve and increasing vagal tone has been shown to help treat a wide variety of brain and mental health conditions, including:

  • Depression
  • Anxiety disorders
  • Alzheimer’s disease
  • Migraines
  • Fibromyalgia
  • Tinnitus
  • Alcohol addiction
  • Autism
  • Bulimia nervosa
  • Personality disorders
  • Heroin seeking behaviour
  • Poor memory
  • Mood disorders in the elderly
  • Multiple sclerosis
  • Obsessive compulsive disorder
  • Severe mental diseases
  • Traumatic brain injury
  • Chronic fatigue syndrome

For people with treatment-resistant depression, the FDA has even approved a surgically-implanted device that periodically stimulates the vagus nerve. And it works (6-9).

But you don’t need to go down that route.

You can enjoy the benefits of vagus nerve stimulation naturally by following these 13 steps.

Related Article: Super Spice Turmeric: Learn Simple And Effective Ways To Improve Your Mental Health

1. Cold Exposure

Acute cold exposure has been shown to activate the vagus nerve and activate cholinergic neurons through vagus nerve pathways (10).

Researchers have also found that exposing yourself to cold on a regular basis can lower your sympathetic “fight or flight” response and increase parasympathetic activity through the vagus nerve (11).

I often take cold showers and go outside in cold temperatures with minimal clothing.

Try finishing your next shower with at least 30 seconds of cold water and see how you feel. Then work your way up to longer periods of time.

It’s painful to do, but the lingering effects are worth it.

You can also ease yourself into it by simply sticking your face in ice cold water.

2. Deep and Slow Breathing

Deep and slow breathing is another way to stimulate your vagus nerve.

It’s been shown to reduce anxiety and increase the parasympathetic system by activating the vagus nerve (51-52).

Most people take about 10 to 14 breaths each minute. Taking about 6 breaths over the course of a minute is a great way to relieve stress. You should breathe in deeply from your diaphragm. When you do this, your stomach should expand outward. Your exhale should be long and slow. This is key to stimulating the vagus nerve and reaching a state of relaxation.

The best way to know if you’re on the right track is by using the EmWave2 device. It’s a biofeedback device that assist you in pacing your breathing. I previously wrote about the benefits of using the device here.

I also just recently discovered the HeartRate+ Coherence app. It’s not as good at the EmWave2 but it’s similar and cheaper. You can get it through the Apple app store or the Google Play store.

3. Singing, Humming, Chanting and Gargling

The vagus nerve is connected to your vocal cords and the muscles at the back of your throat.

Singing, humming, chanting and gargling can activate these muscles and stimulate your vagus nerve.

And this has been shown to increase heart-rate variability and vagal tone (12).

I often gargle water before swallowing it. This is discussed more in Dr. Datis Kharrazian’s book, Why Isn’t My Brain Working?

4. Acupuncture

Acupuncture is another alternative treatment that has been shown to stimulate the vagus nerve (46).

I’m a really big fan of auricular acupuncture. Auricular acupuncture is when needles are inserted into ear. I’d recommend trying to find a health practitioner in your area who provides it, especially if you’re weening off psychiatric medication. It really helped me the first time I came off antidepressants. I was surprised.

Research shows that ear acupuncture stimulates the vagus nerve, increases vagal activity and vagal tone, and can help treat “neurodegenerative diseases via vagal regulation” (45).

In my experience, ear acupuncture is more effective than regular acupuncture. I’m not sure why. I’ve just personally noticed more benefits from ear acupuncture.

I also use this acupuncture mat at home to relax before bed.

5. Yoga and Tai Chi

Yoga and tai chi are two “mind-body” relaxation techniques that work by stimulating the vagus nerve and increasing the activity of your parasympathetic “rest and digest” nervous system.

Studies have shown that yoga increases GABA, a calming neurotransmitter in your brain. Researchers believe it does this by “stimulating vagal afferents”, which increase activity in the parasympathetic nervous system (13-18).

Researchers have also found that yoga stimulates the vagal nerve and therefore should be practiced by people who struggle with depression and anxiety (19).

Despite all the great research, I’m personally not a big fan of yoga. A lot of people swear by it but it’s just not for me. I prefer tai chi.

Tai chi has also been shown to increase heart rate variability, and researchers think this means it can “enhance vagal modulation” (20).

6. Probiotics

It’s becoming increasingly clear to researchers that gut bacteria improve brain function by affecting the vagus nerve (27).

In one study, animals were given the probiotic Lactobacillus Rhamnosus, and researchers found positive changes to the GABA receptors in their brain, a reduction in stress hormones, and less depression and anxiety-like behaviour.

The researchers also concluded that these beneficial changes between the gut and the brain were facilitated by the vagus nerve. When the vagus nerve was removed in other mice, the addition of Lactobacillus Rhamnosus to their digestive systems failed to reduce anxiety, stress, and improve mood (25).

Another study found that the probiotic Bifidobacterium Longum normalized anxiety-like behavior in mice by acting through the vagus nerve (26).

I personally take the probiotic Prescript Assist. It’s my favourite probiotic.

But it doesn’t contain Lactobacillus Rhamnosus and Bifidobacterium Longum, which were used in the above studies. Here is one probiotic supplement that contains both. I personally haven’t tried it though.

I previously wrote about some other ways you can increase the good bacteria in your gut. You can read about that here.

7. Meditation and Neurofeedback

Meditation is my favourite relaxation technique and it can stimulate the vagus nerve and increase vagal tone.

Research shows that meditation increases vagal tone and positive emotions, and promotes feelings of goodwill towards yourself (22, 23).

Another study found that meditation reduces sympathetic “fight or flight” activity and increases vagal modulation (21).

“OM” chanting, which is often done during meditation, has also been shown to stimulate the vagus nerve (24).

I couldn’t find any research demonstrating this, but in my experience, neurofeedback significantly increased my heart-rate variability and vagal tone as measured by my EmWave2.

Now that I’m done neurofeedback, I use the Muse headband to meditate. Similar to neurofeedback, it gives you real-time feedback on your brainwaves. I previously wrote about it here.

8. Omega-3 Fatty Acids

Omega-3 fatty acids are essential fats that your body cannot produce itself. They are found primarily in fish and are necessary for the normal electrical functioning of your brain and nervous system.

salmon-How-to-Stimulate-Your-Vagus-Nerve-for-Better-Mental-Health-brain-vns-ways-treatment-activate-natural-foods-depression-anxiety-stress-heart-rate-variability-yoga-massage-vagal-tone-dysfunction

They often appear in most of my posts because they are so critical for brain and mental health and affect so many aspects of wellness.

They’ve been shown to help people overcome addiction, repair a “leaky brain”, and even reverse cognitive decline.

But researchers have also discovered that omega-3 fatty acids increase vagal tone and vagal activity (35-37, 40).

Studies shown that they reduce heart rate and increase heart rate variability, which means they likely stimulate the vagus nerve (34, 38, 39).

And high fish consumption is also associated with “enhanced vagal activity and parasympathetic predominance” (35).

Infertility Breakthrough: World’s First Three Parent Baby Born In The Ukraine

By: Peter Dockrill | Science Alert

Doctors in Ukraine have announced a world-first, with a ‘three-parent’ baby being born to an infertile couple.

The child, born on January 5, is the result of new medical techniques that enable a baby to be conceived with DNA from three adults. But the procedure remains controversial, and while it’s been approved in the UK as a way of avoiding genetic diseases, this is the first time it’s been used as a remedy for infertility.

Related Article:  5 Ways To Fight Infertility Naturally

A team led by fertility researcher Valery Zukin at the Nadiya clinic in Kiev helped the baby’s parents to conceive by using an in vitro fertilisation (IVF) technique called pronuclear transfer.

In this case, the baby’s mother had been trying to have a child for a decade, and had been through four unsuccessful rounds of conventional IVF.

While her eggs were fertilised successfully each time, they stopped growing before they could be implanted in her womb – a condition known as an embryonic arrest.

To get around this happening, Zukin and his team made a hybrid embryo, fertilising the mother’s egg with her partner’s sperm, and then transferring the resulting pronucleus into an egg from a donor female.

That embryo is then implanted in the mother’s womb, resulting in a baby with the genetic identity of both parents, along with the mitochondrial DNA from the donor.

“It’s like the opening of a new era,” Zukin told Oliver Moody at The Times.

“Before, we could only increase the selection of embryos. But for us this moment opens up the possibility of augmenting embryos.”

Mitochondrial donation, which encompasses the pronuclear transfer technique, was legalised in the UK in 2015 for use in a narrow range of circumstances where the mother’s mitochondrial DNA is unhealthy, and can lead to children developing genetic diseases.

Then, last year, the procedure was used for the first time to create a ‘three-parent baby’ in Mexico.

In that case, the mother had Leigh disease, a genetic disorder affecting the nervous system, which she didn’t want to pass down through her own mitochondrial DNA.

But the use of the technique as a remedy for infertility complications is decidedly controversial, as safety issues around mitochondrial donation are still being explored, and the prospect of it being carried out in private, unregulated clinics has some scientists concerned.

“If this child appears healthy then that is good news, but we should be sceptical about the merits of mitochondrial donation when it is used as an unorthodox fertility treatment technique,” said Sarah Norcross, the director of UK ethics body Progress Educational Trust, in a statement.

“The UK has seen some very thorough reports on the safety and efficacy of mitochondrial donation, but these assessed risk only in relation to patients wishing to avoid transmitting mitochondrial disease to their children. And even then, it was thought prudent to permit the techniques only for judiciously selected patients.”

For now, Zukin’s team say they have run genetic tests on the baby born in Kiev, and the child appears to be “completely normal”.

Beyond that, the doctors seem unconcerned by the controversy, seeing as Ukraine – like Mexico – doesn’t have regulations prohibiting these kinds of procedures.

“In Ukraine, the situation is very simple – it’s not forbidden,” Zukin told Susan Scutti at CNN. “We have not any regulation concerning this.”

Related Article: Study Shows The Environmental Toxins Play A Role In Infertility

As has been pointed out, Zukin also serves as vice president of the Ukraine Association for Reproductive Medicine – the organisation that approved the procedure here – so the ethical questions over its usage in this instance are unlikely to go away.

And now Zukin’s clinic is expecting another ‘three-parent baby’ to be born in March, to a second female patient who was infertile for seven years before attempting pronuclear transfer.

Unregulated DIY Gene Therapy: Learn How One Man’s Fascinating Quest To Hack His Own Genes May Increase Your Lifespan

By Brian Hanley | MIT Tech Review

In a dream Brian Hanley told me about, he’s riding a bus when he meets a man in dark leather clothing. Next thing he knows, he is splayed across a tilted metal bed, being electrocuted.

Related Article: For The First Time In History A Human Has Been Injected With Controversial Genetically Modified Genes

The dream was no doubt connected to events that took place last June at a plastic surgeon’s office in Davis, California. At Hanley’s request, a doctor had injected into his thighs copies of a gene that Hanley, a PhD microbiologist, had designed and ordered from a research supply company. Then, plunging two pointed electrodes into his leg, the doctor had passed a strong current into his body, causing his muscle cells to open and absorb the new DNA.

The effort is the second case MIT Technology Review has documented of unregulated gene therapy, a risky undertaking that is being embraced by a few daring individuals seeking to develop anti-aging treatments. The gene Hanley added to his muscle cells would make his body produce more of a potent hormone—potentially increasing his strength, stamina, and life span.

Hanley, 60, is the founder of a one-man company called Butterfly Sciences, also in Davis. After encountering little interest from investors for his ideas about using DNA injections to help strengthen AIDS patients, he determined that he should be the first to try it. “I wanted to prove it, I wanted to do it for myself, and I wanted to make progress,” says Hanley.

Most gene therapy involves high-tech, multimillion-dollar experiments carried out by large teams at top medical centers, with an eye to correcting rare illnesses like hemophilia. But Hanley showed that gene therapy can be also carried out on the cheap in the same setting as liposuction or a nose job, and might one day be easily accessed by anyone.

In an attempt to live longer, some enthusiasts of anti-aging medicine already inject growth hormone, swallow fullerenes, or gulp megavitamins, sometimes with disregard for mainstream medical thinking. Now unregulated gene therapy could be the next frontier. “I think it’s damn crazy,” says Bruce Smith, a professor at Auburn University who develops genetic treatments for dogs. “But that is human nature, and it’s colliding with technology.”

To pull off his experiment, Hanley used his scientific knowledge and part of his life savings. He put his insider know-how to work to procure supplies, order blood tests, win the sign-off of a local ethics committee, and engage a plastic surgeon who helped give him two treatments, a small dose in 2015 and then a larger one last June.

Reduce Your Risk of Alzheimer’s by Avoiding Aluminum

By Sylvia Booth Hubbard  | Newsmax Health

A British study may provide proof that aluminum does indeed have a role in Alzheimer’s disease. Although a link had been suspected by many scientists and health authorities for more than 50 years, many claimed there was no definite proof.

In a study of more than 100 human brains, Professor Chris Exley and his research team from Keele University found that some of the highest levels of aluminum ever found were in the brains of people who died of familial Alzheimer’s disease.

Familial Alzheimer’s disease is an uncommon hereditary form of the disease that strikes earlier in life, generally between 50 and 65 years of age. Symptoms may begin occurring as early as 30 years of age.

Exley’s research found that the genetic predisposition to develop early onset Alzheimer’s is linked to the accumulation of aluminum — through everyday exposure — in brain tissue.

“Aluminum is a powerful neurotoxin,” says neurosurgeon Dr. Russell Blaylock. “It has been a suspect in Alzheimer’s for many years as well as in the development of dementia, Parkinson’s, Lou Gehrig’s disease (ALS) and other degenerative diseases.”

“Experimental studies show that aluminum can produce all the same changes in the brain we see with Alzheimer’s disease,” he tells Newsmax Health.

“Aluminum is an accumulative neurotoxin, even in small concentrations, and it has a tendency to concentrate in the hippocampus, an area of the brain vital to crucial functions including learning, memory, and behavior.

“Older adults have a lifetime of aluminum accumulation, and their defense systems are much weaker, so they are much more susceptible to the toxic effects of aluminum than younger brains,” he says.

“There is also powerful evidence that aluminum worsens the effects of other toxins, such as pesticides, herbicides, mercury, and fluoride.

“In essence, accumulating aluminum is making your brain age faster,” he says. “You’re inducing all sorts of neurological disorders including Alzheimer’s.”

Below are steps you can take to limit your exposure to aluminum:

Be wary of vaccines. Many vaccines contain aluminum, because it’s believed it stimulates the body to generate disease-fighting antibodies. Many common vaccines, including pneumonia, tetanus, and HPV, contain large doses, says Blaylock. These megadoses can have a devastating effect on the brain.

The incidence of neurological disorders like Alzheimer’s, ALS, Parkinson’s, and multiple sclerosis is exploding, says Dr. Blaylock: “It’s not due to the aging of the population. It’s due to toxins, like aluminum in vaccines, and no one’s telling the truth.”

Common vaccines that contain aluminum include: DTaP (diphtheria, tetanus, and pertussis), hepatitis B, hepatitis A, Hib (haemophilus influenza type B), PVC (pneumococcoal conjugate vaccine), and HPV

Toss aluminum pots and pans. Small amounts of aluminum leach into foods, especially those containing acids. “Aluminum is cumulative, and even small doses over time become highly toxic,” says Blaylock.

When aluminum combines with certain acids, such as those in orange juice, aluminum absorption is increased 11-fold,” he said. Replace aluminum and nonstick items with stainless steel or ceramic cookware, and don’t cook in aluminum foil.

Craft Your Life: Learn How To Rewrite Your Health Story

By: Kalia Kelmenson | Spirituality & Health

The events of our lives can be considered from a strictly ‘just the facts’ point of view. When they are pivotal moments that change the course of our lives, however, it’s worth looking at the perspective we’ve taken.

Two years ago, my dad died. While his health had been suffering, his sudden death left me shocked, wishing I could have helped him somehow. I grieved his death, was supported by my community, and felt that I was coming to grips with it. A year and a half later, I got a cough that wouldn’t go away. It woke me every few hours at night, and without restorative sleep, I felt raw and vulnerable during the days, unable to participate in activities that I enjoyed. I finally resolved the cough after three months, but it left me feeling weak. For the next three months, I suffered from one ailment after another. I felt exposed, lacking my normal vitality.

Eventually, a friend suggested I see an acupuncturist. I scheduled an appointment, and when I walked in, the floodgates opened, and I started crying. I told her what had been going on since my dad’s death. She told me that in Chinese Medicine, grief is held in the lungs. Suddenly I understood. What I had been thinking was a shortcoming of my body or maybe part of getting older, was actually a manifestation of my emotional body needing to be heard.

When I picked up Emily Esfahani Smith’s new book The Power of Meaning: Crafting a Life that Matters I was drawn into a chapter on storytelling. She explores how the ‘narrative choices’ we make about the traumas, choices, and events in our lives informs how we live, and how we feel about life. She reports on the work of psychologist Dan McAdams, who has found that people who tell ‘redemptive’ stories about their lives are the ones who choose to make contributions to the world. Telling a redemptive story does not change the facts, but it does change the interpretation.

Scientist Explains Why Starting Work & School Before 10AM Is Similar To Torture

By Alexa Erickson | Collective Evolution

Do you work before 10am? You’re likely laughing at the question, as your alarm forces you out of sweet dreams and you play mind games each and every morning to pull yourself from the covers, douse yourself in water, drink a cup of coffee, and head to the office.

If you consistently dread getting out of bed before you’re ready, you’ll be happy to know Oxford University is on your side. Here at CE we believe the same thing! So long as our team is in by 10:30AM the latest, you can come in anytime you like before that.

The institution claims that forcing staff to start work before 10am is torturous and making people sick, stressed, and endlessly exhausted. They reason that, before the age of 55, adults’ circadian rhythms aren’t in sync with the typical 9-to-5 working hours. Forcing our bodies to break nature is actually a “serious threat” to our happiness, our mental state, and even our work performance.

Dr. Paul Kelley of Oxford University urges the necessity for societal change, in which work and school times reflect the natural body clocks of humans.

“This is a huge society issue,” Dr Kelley said. “Staff should start at 10am. You don’t get back to (the 9am) starting point till 55. Staff are usually sleep-deprived. We’ve got a sleep-deprived society.

“It is hugely damaging on the body’s systems because you are affecting physical, emotional and performance systems in the body.

How To Stop Attacking Yourself: 9 Steps To Heal Autoimmune Disease

By: Dr. Mark Hyman | Elephant Journal

truly heal from cancer

Inflammation is a “hot” topic in medicine.

It appears connected to almost every known chronic disease—from heart disease to cancer, diabetes to obesity, autism to dementia, and even depression.

Other inflammatory diseases such as allergies, asthma, arthritis, and autoimmune disease are increasing at dramatic rates. As physicians we are trained to shut off inflammation with aspirin, anti-inflammatory medication such as Advil or Motrin, steroids, and increasingly more powerful immune suppressing medication with serious side effects.

But we are not trained to find and treat the underlying causes of inflammation in chronic disease. Hidden allergens, infections, environmental toxins, an inflammatory diet, and stress are the real causes of these inflammatory conditions.

Autoimmune diseases, specifically, now affect 24 million people and include rheumatoid arthritis, lupus, multiple sclerosis, thyroid disease, inflammatory bowel disease, and more.

These are often addressed by powerful immune suppressing medication and not by addressing the cause. That’s like taking a lot of aspirin while you are standing on a tack. The treatment is not more aspirin or a strong immune suppressant, but removing the tack.

If you want to cool off inflammation in the body, you must find the source. Treat the fire, not the smoke. In medicine we are mostly taught to diagnose disease by symptoms, not by their underlying cause.

Functional medicine, the emerging 21st century paradigm of systems medicine, teaches us to treat the cause, not only the symptoms, to ask the question why are you sick, not only what disease do you have.

I recently participated in a group discussion with a conventional doctor, a rheumatologist, and patient with an autoimmune disease, and one of my patients who was cured of a complex autoimmune disease by addressing the causes.

The focus of the other doctors, however, was on how to suppress the inflammation with medication, not finding and treating the cause. Functional medicine is a different way of thinking about disease that helps us understand and treat the real causes of inflammation instead of finding clever ways to shut it down. Medicine as it is practiced today is like taking the battery out of a smoke detector while a fire burns down your house!

Autoimmune conditions are connected by one central biochemical process: A runaway immune response also known as systemic inflammation that results in your body attacking its own tissues.

When my patient described how he cured his autoimmune disease by finding and eliminating the causes of inflammation in his diet and environment, it was dismissed as a “spontaneous remission.” In the face of a paradigm-shattering medical case, these doctors were hardly curious and quickly dismissive, describing what was shared as anecdotal.

My patient on that panel, a hard-working 46-year old father of three, was once so inflamed he could barely function. By treating the underlying causes of his inflammation he is now in vibrant good health, enjoying his life with his kids and fully capable of caring for them.

Stories like these (and the many others I have shared in my blogs, books, and on television) are not anecdotes but a giant compass pointing us in the direction we should be looking to find answers to our health problems.

In today’s blog, I will explain what autoimmunity is, how inflammation spirals out of control, describe some of the underlying causes for these fires in the body, and provide you with nine steps to cool the fires of inflammation and overcome conditions that range from allergies to arthritis and more.

Autoimmunity: What it is and How it Occurs

We are facing an epidemic of allergic (60 million people), asthmatic (30 million people), and autoimmune disorders (24 million people). Autoimmune diseases include rheumatoid arthritis, lupus, multiple sclerosis, psoriasis, celiac disease, thyroid disease, and the many other hard-to-classify syndromes in the 21st century.

These are all autoimmune conditions, and at their root they are connected by one central biochemical process: A runaway immune response also known as systemic inflammation that results in your body attacking its own tissues.

Your immune system is your defense against invaders. It is your internal army and has to clearly distinguish friend from foe—to know you from others. Autoimmunity occurs when your immune system gets confused and your own tissues get caught in friendly cross-fire.

Your body is fighting something—an infection, a toxin, an allergen, a food or the stress response—and somehow it redirects its hostile attack on your joints, your brain, your thyroid, your gut, your skin, or sometimes your whole body.

This immune confusion results from what is referred to as molecular mimicry. Conventional approaches don’t have a method for finding the insult causing the problem. Functional medicine provides a map to find out which molecule the cells are mimicking.

Interestingly, autoimmune disorders occur almost exclusively in developed countries. People in poor nations without modern amenities like running water, flush toilets, washing machines, and sterile backyards don’t get these diseases.

If you grew up on a farm with lots of animals, you are also less likely to have any of these inflammatory disorders. Playing in the dirt, being dirty, and being exposed to bugs and infections trains your immune system to recognize what is foreign and what is “you.”

In this country, autoimmune diseases, when taken all together, are a huge health burden. They are the eighth leading cause of death among women, shortening the average patient’s lifespan by eight years. The annual health care cost for autoimmune diseases is $120 billion a year representing nearly twice the economic health care burden of cancer (about $ 70 billion a year). (i)

Unfortunately, many of the conventional treatments available can make you feel worse. Anti-inflammatory drugs like Advil, steroids, immune suppressants like methotrexate, and the new TNF-alpha blockers like Enbrel or Remicade can lead to intestinal bleeding, kidney failure, depression, psychosis, osteoporosis, muscle loss, and diabetes, not to mention overwhelming infection and cancer.(ii)

When used selectively these drugs can help people get their lives back. But they are not a long-term solution. They shouldn’t be the end of treatment, but a bridge to cool off inflammation while we treat the root cause of the disease.

There is another way to deal with autoimmune conditions. Let me share the same story I told the doctors on that panel.

Recovering from Autoimmunity: Addressing the Root Causes of Inflammation

My patient Sam ended up on a long misadventure through the medical system before he came to see me. For years he went from doctor to doctor getting all kinds of labels for his problems but no real help in treating them.

This hard-working, once healthy trade professional had suddenly developed a series of inflammatory conditions including chronic sinus and prostate infections. Many doctors gave him many antibiotics for these infections.

Shortly thereafter, he developed severe chest pains and went to the emergency room. While he was there, doctors found swollen lymph nodes and told him he had lymphoma, a form of cancer. For three weeks he lived in despair until the biopsy results came back. It turned out he didn’t have cancer but an autoimmune disease. Which autoimmune disease? The doctors weren’t quite sure…

He had many abnormal blood test results—like low white blood cell and platelet counts, high levels of auto-antibodies of all types (antibodies that attack our own tissues), high immunoglobulins (the foot soldiers of the immune system), and autoimmune thyroid disease. But doctors had a hard time putting their finger on what was wrong. They couldn’t label him.

Meanwhile, Sam developed metabolic syndrome and weight gain (pre-diabetes) as a result of the runaway inflammation in his body.

Here is a quote from one his specialist’s notes:

“Whether he has lupus or Sjogren’s syndrome is a bit unclear. Regardless, he merely needs observation and no therapeutic intervention at this time.”

This unfortunately is all too common. What exactly did they plan to observe, how bad he felt? Or would they just wait for him to get worse before intervening?

That’s when he came to me. Using a functional medicine approach, a new way of thinking about the underlying causes and imbalances in chronic disease, I began by asking Sam some simple questions. Then I went hunting for toxins, allergens, and infections—all common causes of inflammation—and found the real causes of his symptoms.

He had taken so many antibiotics that altered his gut flora or bacteria and promoted yeast overgrowth. Fungus and yeast flourished in his body, growing between his toes, on his toenails, in his crotch, and scalp. He had Helicobacter pylori bacteria in his gut. He had a leaky gut and reacted to many foods, including dairy and gluten. He was exposed to toxins at his job and had high levels of mercury. And he had chronic sinus infections.

So we went to work cleaning house. I treated his yeast with anti-fungals and the H. pylori with antibiotics, got rid of his food allergies, fixed his gut, detoxified him from metals and cleaned up his sinuses.

Then I helped heal his immune system by supporting it with nutrients. I gave him zinc, fish oil, vitamin D, herbs, and probiotics, and put him on a clean, whole-foods, allergen-free, anti-inflammatory diet.

At his next follow-up visit, I asked Sam how he was doing, expecting him to say that he felt a little better. However, his response surprised even me. He said he felt fine.

“What about the fatigue?” I asked.

“I have great energy.”

“What about the bloating and gas?”

“Nope.”

“What about the reflux?”

“Gone.”

“What about your sinuses and chronic phlegm?”

“All clear.”

“What about your memory and concentration problems?”

“All better.”

And he lost 15 pounds.

When his labs came in, they confirmed what he told me—they were all back to normal. His white cells increased and his immune markers calmed way down.

Sam’s results simply reflect the application of a new model of thinking about problems called functional medicine—it’s a way to get to the root of health problems and treat the underlying causes of what ails you instead of suppressing symptoms with medications.

If you have an autoimmune disease, here is what you need to think about and do.

Nine Steps to Treating Autoimmune Disease

1. Check for hidden infections—yeast, viruses, bacteria, Lyme, etc.—with the help of a doctor, and treat them.

Experts Say: Strange Objections Inside Human Bodies May Be Extraterrestrial

By Arjun Walia |* Collective Evolution

UFO hovering-compressed

Everything from the release of government documents, to high level testimonies from high ranking military and political figures has ignited a massive surge of interest in the UFO phenomenon from people all over the world. Unidentified Flying Objects (performing maneuvers that defy our understanding of physics) are now a confirmed reality. Official government documents prove that defence and government agencies have been examining this topic for a while.

For example, you can view the UK’s latest release of files from June 2013 here.  To find out what happens when the military tracks a UFO on radar, you can click here. You can find out more information about that from CE by clicking here. Ask yourself, why is there such a high level of interest from government and military agencies?

The question people are asking has changed from “do UFOs exist?” to “are UFOs extraterrestrial spacecraft?” Attributing today’s unknown aerial phenomenon to extraterrestrial craft might be a big mental leap to some, but the size of that mental leap continues to decrease. There are a lot of factors that are attributing to that decrease, and one of them comes in the form of body marks and extracted implants from people who’ve claimed to have extraterrestrial contact. I’m not saying all UFOs are extraterrestrial craft, I believe many of them are also made by humans from classified projects that come from the black budget world. I also believe that many of these implants could have been done by military agencies; but again, I’d like to reiterate that the extraterrestrial hypothesis is not one to take likely, you can read more about the extraterrestrial hypothesis HERE, or later on in this article.

“There are a great many photographs of such body marks, many of which are in an equilateral triangle pattern of red dots on the wrist or near the ankle. Also common are scoop marks,” in which it appears as if a small amount of tissue was removed from beneath the skin, leaving an indentation.” -Richard Dolan (UFOs and the National Security State, Volume 2)

The case of extracted implants is very fascinating, they are largely reported by abductees, and those who have had experience with UFOs.

Below is a clip of Dr. Roger Leir. a Doctor of Podiatric medicine, and arguably the best known individual with regards to extracting alleged alien implants. He has performed more than fifteen surgeries that removed sixteen separate distinct objects. These objects have been investigated by several prestigious laboratories, including Los Alamos National Laboratories, New Mexico Tech, and many others. Unfortunately, he passed away in March 2014, but his legacy lives on. The clip was taken from the citizens hearing on disclosure, just like the one below, where you can find out more information about that.

In 2016, approximately 1,685,210 new cases of cancer will be diagnosed in the United States alone, and approximately 600,000 people will die from the disease. The number of new cancer cases is 454.8 per 100,000 men and women per year, based on cases from 2008-2010.

Men have almost a 50 percent chance of contracting the disease at some point within their lifetime, and women have a 1/3 chance. Pretty crazy isn’t it? (source)

In a time where so much information is coming to light, challenging the belief systems of so many, it’s important to keep an open mind to new information to help us see through what’s really been happening on our planet. It’s no secret that a small group of corporationsdominate almost every aspect of our lives, from energy to education, all the way to modern day healthcare.

The Cancer Industry

One aspect of healthcare is the cancer industry, and while people still scoff at the idea that there could be a suppression of cures and a lack of funding for proven alternative treatments, this is a fact that continues to come to light and is necessary for people to acknowledge if we are going to move forward and save millions of lives.

It’s important to accept the fact that, as Linus Pauling, Ph.D, and two time Nobel Prize winner in chemistry told us, that“most cancer research is largely a fraud, and that the major cancer research organisations are derelict in their duties to the people who support them.” (source)

Pauling’s ‘anger’ with regards to cancer research is well documented, especially in his book, How To Live Longer and Feel Better
