Ten Principles Of Zen

Ten Principles Of Zen

Zen is not a system of philosophy, nor of psychology, nor of meditation, and when it tries to explain itself in these terms, it ceases to be Zen. In Zen the means is the end; the end and the means are one. To find true ‘suchness’ in the job at hand is utterly sufficient. Once found, the world is never the same again to the eyes that have seen. In Zen there is no authority for any man, save his own experience, nor respect for a teacher, save that he tries to assist his pupil to achieve his own. The intellect will reason to its own approval, and may clearly prove that Zen does not exist; the heart knows otherwise, and the ‘soul’ or ‘higher Self’ is silent, knowing what it knows.

Tweet By Tweet, Female Representation Is Being Redefined

Across every media institutional platform we are exposed to sexualized images of women. Not men, just women. You never see adverts showing men eating burgers in a thong on all fours or with legs spread to advertise that a store is ‘now open’. Male singers wear clothes, female singers wear very little while shaking their bums in front of a camera. You get the picture. But shouting above this image is the growing voice of a gender that’s misrepresented. Media institutions that have long had the stronghold are being undermined by one of their own; the internet. Barely a day goes by without a #feminist hashtag trending on Twitter. Articles uploaded hourly critiquing sexism are shared in a social media instant. Where have all of these voices come from?

Forget Doom and Gloom: Preparedness is the Ultimate Act of Optimism

Daisy Luther: One who practices skills, makes dramatic lifestyle changes, and studies current events critically may come across to the uninitiated as a person who has buried himself or herself in negativity, but in fact, one who prepares is saying to life, “Whatever comes, we are not only going to live through it, my family is going to thrive, and I will not bend my knee to tyranny for an MRE and a bottle of water.”

Without You There: The Zen of Unity

Without You There: The Zen of Unity

Unity is seeing that you are already home and having the same satisfaction of the warm sand on your feet and the ocean on your side without having to get up from your chair. We become so accustomed to thinking in certain ways that we tend to let it color every area of life. This way of thinking is reinforced by a variety of worldly programs, such as those seen on TV. Some of them we are aware of and others remain hidden until the obvious is seen. This thinking-ness – which obscures the obvious – then gets projected onto achieving the highest goal of Unity. Unity is the dismantling of this way of thinking to reveal what is already here, there, everywhere and nowhere. By seeing the obvious we automatically see through these programs. This does not make them disappear in a cloud of dust necessarily but lessens their stranglehold over our Bliss. These programs are not ‘bad’, some of them can even be entertaining, but being at the mercy of these we appear to be lost.
