Straight Talk With Time

The ancient and epic poem The Ramayana says that long ago there was a powerful Demon king named Ravana. His power blinded him with pride, deceived him into thinking he was larger than Dharma or Truth. Ravana stole a princess, Sita, Rama’s wife, and a war was waged to get her back. Blinded By Pride […]

Something In The Tea

I lived in Korea for a year teaching English and studying meditation. I loved to explore the locals-only part of this fascinating country. One day a few friends and I wandered into a tea shop in the old part of town. At the back of the shop was a man, dressed in the Han Bok, the traditional […]

Going Home

Going Home

What if our soul is, as poet Mary Oliver says, “pure light that shines where no one is”? In her poem (conveniently titled Poem), Mary Oliver speaks to the notion of the soul like this: “Airy and shapeless thing,/ it needs/ the metaphor of the body. . . to be understood/ to be more than […]

A Mantra That Stings Like A Bee

“Float like a butterfly, sting like a bee.” And so he did. This was Muhammad Ali’s mantra. Perhaps yoga and mindfulness isn’t often associated with Muhammad Ali, yoga’s first principle of non-harming and all that, but he was someone who was particularly adroit in his use of the yogic principle of mantra and visualization. His […]

As people age, their brains lose weight and volume. These changes may start to occur in people as early as their mid to late 20s. In particular, the research concluded that people who meditated showed less of a decrease in their white brain matter. Meditation is something practiced by more than 15 million Americans and many more people around the world. How to Live from Your Heart

How to Live from Your Heart

Does your head rule your heart or your heart rule your head?
For years I lived in a totally left-brained, head focused world. Although female by gender I was ruled by male energy – logic, action, analysis. I even did a psychometric test in my corporate days that confirmed this. At the time I had no understanding of the Divine Masculine and Feminine and felt that male energy was needed to be successful in the world. I began my awakening and spiritual journey in 2004 but it wasn’t until 5 years later in 2009 that I had my true spiritual awakening when I was touched by the Divine and my intuition was switched on. It was the beginning of a completely new phase in my life which manifested in my internal and external worlds. I put my intuition in control and remember feeling that I had Divine hands on my shoulders guiding me down my new path.

The True Meaning of Down Dog

The True Meaning of Down Dog

In yoga and mindfulness, we are cultivating our own ability to recognize things as they are. In part, that recognition is to also see our own inner-awesomeness. May we learn to see in ourselves what our dog sees in us. The word Namaste means, “I acknowledge the light inside of me that’s also inside of you.” It’s an acknowledgement of our shared beauty. May we take this to heart and learn to see that light within ourselves and within everything around us.
