Beyond the Sciences: Transcending Space-Time

What is science? The Cambridge Dictionary provides the following definition of science:

Science refers to knowledge obtained from the careful study of the structure and behaviour of the physical world, especially by watching, measuring, and doing experiments, and the development of theories to describe the results of these activities.

Going by the definition, it is limiting in scope because it demands experimentation, theorization based on empirical evidence and replication of findings.

When we think of science, what comes to mind is disciplines like physics, chemistry, physiology, etc. These may be referred to as exact sciences. Psychology, economics, political science and geography, on the other hand are inexact sciences.

Mainstream science has not been able to answer questions like, “Why does one person need only 4 hours of sleep per night and why does another person need 9 hours of sleep every night?” Beyond the study of psychophysiological mechanisms, there lies the answer. But that answer is inaccessible to us. No sleep specialist can answer the aforementioned question satisfactorily.

Along similar lines, mainstream science cannot provide precise answers to questions like, “Why does one particular medication do wonders to one person with some psychological disorder, whereas it has no positive effect on another person with the same disorder?” These are unresolved questions that baffle clinical psychologists and psychiatrists alike.

Beyond the Sciences lies the answer to such questions. What do we mean by this? It means that scientists and researchers must delve into unknown waters to find the sunshine they were looking for. Using esoteric wisdom and knowledge from fields like parapsychology, transpersonal psychology, quantum psychology, consciousness studies, perhaps the solution can be found. Sometimes though, even such intellectual endeavours have not been handy for researchers. Nobody knows the answer. By introspection and by discussion with a neuropsychologist who is also a certified past life regression therapist and hypnotherapist, I have come to believe that sometimes, we need to wait. He had once told me that for some solutions, time is the only answer. There is something that is not permitting the knowledge to be unveiled to the world and that is because it is repressed in the universal soul.

Now one question that arises in my mind is this: If we transcend space-time barriers, would we be able to find what we are looking for? If yes, how do we transcend space-time? Perhaps, the answer lies in being able to take autonoetic consciousness (the human ability to mentally place ourselves in the past, in the future, or in counterfactual situations, and to thus be able to examine our own thoughts) to the next level. And what precisely does this entail? To date, no substantial scientific evidence exists. This is something that researchers from multiple disciplines must address, because it holds promise.
