In this video, Ayurvedic expert, Lissa Coffey gives you a few simple tips to improve your sex life according to your dosha. If you don't know which ayurvedic dosha your are (kapha, pitta or vata), you can take Lisa's 3-minute dosha test here and quickly determine which one you are.

According to Lissa, ayurveda sees sex as a very important part of life because it connects two people physically, emotionally, mentally and spiritually, and creates a deeper connection between them over time. It's also has all sorts of physical benefits for the body.

The best way to engage in sex is to involve all of the five bodily senses. And the ideal time for sex, Lissa says, is between 10 and 11 pm. This is due to the fact that we are more subdued or kaphic until about 10 pm when we get a spike of pitta (fire) that puts us in a more passionate place.

Here are some specific sexual preferences for each dosha:

Kapha – If you're kapha, you don't need sex as often, but when you have it, you want it to be longer and better, emphasizing quality over quantity. Your strongest sexual senses are taste and smell.

Pitta – If you're pitta, you need a lot of passion in your sex, and you tend to be very visual, so how things look in the bedroom — from your partner to the decor — matter.

Vata – If you're a vata, you like novelty and need to “mix it up” in the bedroom. Your most engaged senses during sex are sound and touch.
