Vedic Astrology for June: Cultivate Compassion, Beware of Aggression, Communicate Mindfully

vedic astrology May 2015

At the beginning of June we find Venus in Cancer (since May 30, 2015) joining the planet Jupiter, exalted in Cancer. Venus stays in Cancer until July 5. With Venus in the water sign of Cancer we want security, safety, and nurturing from loved ones. This is also a time we feel more openings to give extra support and care to family members. Now with Venus traveling with benefic Jupiter we feel even more generous, kind and giving to others and our world. This is a great time to cultivate compassion and see the goodness in all things. Love can bring optimistic feelings, and romance may blossom. We also enjoy social contacts and events. Venus will conjunct Jupiter exactly at 27 degrees Cancer on June 30 and July 1.

Mars will be traveling extremely close with the Sun (called combustion) for the entire month of June, beginning in the sign of Taurus, and then mid-month shifting into Gemini. This combustion of Mars during the month of June means that things related to Mars may suffer. The integrity of Mars is compromised and we might feel more agitated or confrontational as Mars rules assertiveness and aggression. The combination of Sun and Mars can sometimes result in extreme imbalance in our energy output. Our vitality and enthusiasm may suffer. So remember to take time out when you need to and rest. Be patient, mindful and take time to think things through before making decisions is recommended. This is a perfect opportunity to develop more personal courage, discipline, and neutrality in our lives. Don’t let outer drama affect your inner peace. Some remedies for Mars are practicing yoga and meditation, and working with the manipura (solar plexus) chakra. The deity for Mars is Hanuman, so chanting the Hanuman Chalisa is also helpful.

Mars and the Sun will be exactly conjunct several times, starting at 27 degrees Taurus on June 12, then at 28 degrees Taurus on June 13, and 29 degrees Taurus on June 14. Then on June 15, the Sun first moves into Gemini, followed by Mars on the same day, and later that day they will exactly conjunct at 0 degrees Gemini. We need to be a little more centered, compassionate, and humble around the dates listed above, as we may feel out of balance energetically. This is time to practice peace-making, and to learn positive ways to express ourselves and be less reactive. If your Ascendant is ruled by Mars (Aries or Scorpio) or Mars is your yogakaraka planet (for Cancer and Leo Ascendants), you may feel this combustion of Mars more intensely. As the Sun and Mars move into Gemini on June 15, they lose the opposition of Saturn which was problematic since May. So we may feel less tension or restriction mid-month.

And of course Mercury is still retrograde the beginning of the month (since May 18) until June 11 when it goes direct. Once Mercury goes direct, it’s a good time to resolve any miscommunications, apologize, or forgive as you’ll have better clarity in order to express yourself, and you may experience new understandings in the process. Now with Mercury direct we can move forward to make any needed changes for greater success in the future.

Vedic Astrology for May: Socialness, Rapport & Possible Tensions (Be Mindful May 27!)

vedic astrology May 2015

At the beginning of May there are still some powerful combinations occurring with the Sun exalted in Aries, Mars traveling through the final degrees of Aries, Venus transiting its own sign of Taurus, and of course, Jupiter is exalted in the sign of Cancer until July 2015. But that quickly changes as Venus shifts to the sign of Gemini on May 2, followed closely with Mars moving to the sign of Taurus on May 4, and later on May 14 the Sun begins its transit through the sign of Taurus.

During most of May, Venus transits Gemini from May 2 to May 30, 2015. Venus in Gemini brings a desire for more socialness and mental rapport with others. We want to express love in a more verbal way, or find that talking about our feelings can be an opening for deeper intimacy. However, Venus is Gemini also likes variety, changeability, and stimulus, sometimes even over genuine emotional contacts.

Mars begins its transit through Taurus from May 4, 2015 to June 15, 2015, where it joins Mercury and will oppose retrograde Saturn in Scorpio. Mars with Mercury is a time we strive for mental stimulation, which can express in the positive through passionate speech and quick problem-solving. But watch for impatience, angry moods, and frustrations in communications with others. We want others to understand our point of view, and can be overly assertive in the process. Mars exactly conjuncts Mercury at 16 degrees Taurus on May 27, so be extra sensitive and mindful with all verbal expressions at this time.

Saturn in Scorpio opposes Mercury in Taurus now through July 4, 2015, and during this time Mercury will also go retrograde from May 18 through June 11, 2015. With Saturn opposing Mercury in retrograde motion, some serious and challenging communications can occur. We are asked to be more precise and responsible with our words now, as well as what we put in writing. With the Saturn aspect to Mercury, our minds become more critical. This is a perfect opportunity to let go of negative thinking or any rigid attitudes that hold us back.

Remember, during the Mercury retrograde phase from May 18 to June 11, we can re-do tasks we thought we had completed. There can be delays in communications and with travel plans. So double-check and review, and don’t forget important details during this transit. Also when Mercury is retrograde it is a great time for contemplation and introspection, allowing us to reflect with profound results. But watch for misunderstood messages or being misquoted. Communications and travel are improved when Mercury goes direct on June 11, 2015, when we can then move forward with more confidence.

Saturn in Scorpio and Mars in Taurus also oppose each other beginning May 4, with the exact opposition occurring at 8 degrees on May 14 and 15. These two planets are not friendly with each other, and so can bring some tensions, obstacles, or back and forth energies. If you experience some setbacks, know this is temporary, as you are learning to be more patient, mature, and direct in your expression and expectations in life. You may wish to simplify some areas of your life. As this opposition occurs between the signs of Scorpio and Taurus, this can indicate some strains revolving around value systems, finances, and investments.

Mid-month the Sun begins its annual transit through the sign Taurus the evening of May 14, 2015 through June 15, 2015, where it will join Mars already there. Now both the Sun and Mars will oppose Saturn. On May 22, 2015, Saturn in Scorpio will exactly oppose the Sun at 7 degrees of Taurus. If you have planets close to 7 or 8 degrees either in the signs of Taurus or Scorpio, you may be especially sensitive to this transit.

We can also feel personally blocked or have issues surface revolving around self-confidence and self-esteem. By being willing to take positive action, the end result is increased strength to have more authenticity in our lives. We are feeling the pull between self-expression (Sun) and doing our duty in life (Saturn). Don’t be so hard on yourself during this time. You might be re-defining what you really deserve in life and what truly matters – and we all deserve peace of mind and inner happiness!

Vedic Astrology for April 2015: Optimism, New Ventures & Going For It

By Debra Infante

At the beginning of April we had the second of two eclipses this spring season. The first eclipse was a solar eclipse last month on March 20, and now we just had a total lunar eclipse on April 4, 2015. This eclipse occurs on the full moon at 20 degrees Virgo in the nakshatra of Hasta. With the eclipse in Virgo, issues around health, diet, discrimination, and work/service can be themes. The nakshatra of Hasta indicates concerns arising around injustices in the world, possibly challenging powerful opponents, as we understand just how powerful our words can be.

Being a full moon eclipse, we might feel a greater emotional charge and amplified energies at this time. Eclipses are tied to shifts in one’s life, bringing to surface hidden matters to be faced, so we can heal and grow. An eclipse can be an important learning experience, prompting us to take action and make needed changes. Eclipses are great times for introspection, meditation, and prayer, but are not favored for material or worldly pursuits. The effects of eclipses can last for several months.

Venus, planet of love, relationships, and healing, transits its own sign of Taurus from April 6, 2015 until May 2, 2015. Venus in Taurus will increase the need for stability in love, closeness to family and friends, and a desire for a more comfortable environment. We seek security and more tangible expressions of love in our relationships. Watch for over-possessiveness.

Venus in Taurus will oppose transiting Saturn in Scorpio at 10 degrees on April 15, 2015. You may feel more serious with love relationships, wanting a deeper commitment, or you can feel unstable, burdened, and unloved. This is a good time to practice taking personal responsibility for our own self-love. Be kind and generous to others.

On April 8, 2015 exalted Jupiter in Cancer, the great benefic planet of spirituality, philosophy and beliefs, and good fortune now goes direct, after being retrograde since early December 2014. After four months of deep spiritual introspection, we now become more active in the outer world, expressing our newly discovered beliefs and values. Faith and optimism are increasing. New ventures started now can bring more success and joy, as we want to do good things for others and our world.

The Sun moves to Aries, its exalted sign, from April 14 to May 14, 2015, joining Mars already traveling in Aries since March 23. The Sun and Mars will both be in Aries from April 14 to May 3, and then Mars shifts to Taurus on May 3. So for last two weeks of April we experience much fiery energy with two pitta planets in a pitta sign! The Sun in Aries brings desire to lead and initiate and we are enthusiastic and spontaneous. We feel empowered, ambitious, and in charge.

We also experience frustrations if results don’t come quickly, as well as an inability to not look very far ahead. So be a bit more patient and plan with the future in mind. With Mars in Aries its own sign (along with exalted Sun) our competitive nature is strong and we want to be first! We can be more direct, goal-oriented and active in all endeavors.

Just watch for increased impulsiveness, anger issues, and self-centeredness. This conjunction of Sun and Mars can give great stamina, so focusing on self-improvement modalities and helping others is a remedy to create more balance and peace.
