Amazing Shaman/Musician, Rafael Bejarano, Tragically Killed in Egypt (MUST SEE Video)

It’s been a couple weeks since my friend, Rafael Bejarano, an amazing Shaman, a virtuoso of native musical instruments, and a Reiki healer was one of “8 Mexican tourists that were mistaken for terrorists and killed in Egypt.”

It’s taken me awhile to write this because every time I started, all I could do was cry. Rafael’s death is a huge loss for the whole world. His death is a tragedy you should know about.

I cannot fathom in my wildest imagination how a man as peaceful as Rafael – as well as the rest of his compadres – could be mistaken as “terrorists.” We are talking about a man who dedicated his every breath to the expansion of others and to creating more love on this planet.

Rafael was an incredibly bright light, bringing happiness and healing to everyone he encountered. His essence was love, harmony, and music. He showed us how to connect with our hearts and the music that is the vibration of our being. His wisdom was simple, but profound: “Heaven is not a place, it is a state of consciousness.”

Raphael was also a master sound healer. He took his sound healing ministry to many places worldwide including Africa and Madison Square Garden in New York. His close relationship with the Gandhi family enabled him to attend and perform in exclusive circles with members of the UN, the parliament and royalty.

Watch this awesome video to get an idea of what an incredibly beautiful individual (and spiritual giant) Rafael was:

And, this video gives you a pretty good idea of what was like to participate in a sound healing session with Rafael:

Rafael’s Senseless Death

Rafael was killed by rocket fire while he was enjoying lunch with a tour group (organized by his mother) in Egypt's Western Desert. Egyptian officials say security forces mistook the tourists for terrorists and fired on the group. Seven others in his group were also killed, as were four Egyptians.

The killings are, of course, a tragedy. And the Egyptian government has apologized for the “accident.” These kinds of “accidents” only happen because our world is filled with militarily-aggressive governments that attack first and ask questions later. Innocent people die with this kind of strategy.

Here are a couple of related stories you might want to check out (mind you, I could provide dozens of similar stories):

In ‘Targeted’ US Drone Strikes, Vast Majority Killed Are Those Not Targeted: Study

U.S. Drones Are Responsible For More Civilian Deaths in Yemen than Al Qaeda

I think Rafael would have wanted his death to serve a positive purpose. In light of that, let’s look at why this tragedy happened.

The Problem

“Wanton killing of innocent civilians is terrorism, not a war against terrorism.” – Noam Chomsky

Here’s the problem: most of us accept this strategy as the price we have to pay for keeping us safe from “terrorists.” For the most part, we don’t seem to care that the system that is setup to “protect us” could be killing more innocent people than terrorists.

Here’s an article about that you might want to check out:

U.N. Critical of Drone Strikes, Why Not American Taxpayers?

The Solution

First and foremost, we can all become more like Rafael and be more loving in all of our thoughts and with everyone we encounter, regardless of their race, religion or country of origin. And, yes, I’ve got an article on this too:

How To Use LOVE to Dramatically and Quickly Improve Conditions on Our Planet

Secondly, we can care more. Rafael and the others killed were real human beings, who left behind loved ones whose lives have been forever changed by their loss.

Beyond that, we have ALL lost a great Shaman. Rafael’s incredible, healing music was enjoyed across the globe, and gave new life to many. Aside from the recordings we thankfully already have, his music has been permanently silenced.

If you watched the first video above, you heard Rafael talk about the importance of having empathy for others. So, whenever you hear of such tragedies, take a few moments and feel the loss. Really. Feel it.

Then, when your heart has been broken open by such a tragic loss, send love, compassion and healing energy to all of those suffering from the loss. And, of course, send letters, emails, etc. demanding that these kinds of senseless killings cease.

My Personal Healing Experience with Rafael

In January 2012, I was very fortunate to spend a day with Rafael at the home of some dear friends, Edilma and Alfonso Avendano, in Laguna Beach, CA. There were 10 of us who received sound healing from Rafael. During the session, he played about a dozen different instruments including a wide variety of didgeridoos. I was totally in awe of his musical skills and incredibly loving demeanor.

It was an amazing experience that I’ll never forget. At one point, Rafael encompassed my head inside his largest didgeridoo and proceeded to play. Talk about a total immersion!

“A heart filled with love is like a phoenix that no cage can imprison.” – Rumi

At times it feels as though finding the perfect words to resonate well with an emotional feeling are non-existent. Having gone through the physical passing of our dear and great friend, Rafael Bejarano, we found ourselves in the same predicament of finding an expression that could symbolize what he meant.

However, feeling that his physical passing was more of a transition into ascension as opposed to a loss, the quote by Rumi couldn't have been more significant to the impact Rafael Bejarano left on us and the global community.

Rafael was a citizen of the world whom transcended national borders to share his message. Through the use of indigenous instruments from around the world, Rafael would become an “instrument” himself, in which he was a tool for promoting a message of connection and greater possibilities for us all.

Through his music, he created the environment in which to experience physical and emotional healing, bridging a link between mind and body that allowed us to tap into the potential of our hearts and uncover the possibilities within ourselves and one another. Here are lyrics from one of Rafael's songs (which he briefly performs on the first video above):

“Yes… it lives within you… within us all.

The potential, the possibility, the promise…

Heaven on Earth.

The silent longing, the harmonic balance, the highest dream of all.

Love, Light, Peace and Joy,

in this world and in the Hearts of Humanity.

Creator has already given us this gift.

It exists inside each one of us,

as the Sacred Seed of Our Heart.”

In November of 2012, Rafael inaugurated Matiz Wellness Center with a musical ceremony. It was a blessing to have his presence energetically charge the beginning of a new journey. Matiz became the center for many of his healing sessions and ceremonies and a place where people could gather to realize greater possibilities.

As our family and all that knew him lament the passing of his physical presence, we embrace and remember with greater fervor his music and message as a tool towards elevating emotions, energy, consciousness and creating a greater community. We remember more deeply his work and contribution all over the globe of raising consciousness and awareness to the possibilities of human potential by building a deeper connection with ourselves, our ancestors, and our earth.

Although his passing is abrupt, the love and connection he taught many of us to embrace will resonate and ripple much farther into the future. For this, we are forever grateful to Rafael Bejarano for his presence and the sharing of his time with us here.

*sigh* once again Americans seem to be the bad guys…Yes it is sad he died, if it were up to me we would all be happy and nobody dies. But when you say we should all be accepting of others, and say how military based governments kill aimlessly, you lose something. There will always be bastards out there who are evil, and your entire argument can be nullified by one quote.
“All that is necessary for the triumph of evil is for good men to do nothing.”
