Ralph Smart of Infinite Waters Diving Deep makes a lot of videos, and in this one, he shares how you can be a one-take wonder like him. We feel, though, that this video offers great advice even if you’re not going to be in front of a camera. We all have to speak in with others all day long and every point applies to interpersonal communication as well.

Here are 8 Ways You Can Speak with Confidence:

1) Practice. Like any other skill, practice is key if you want to be a great speaker.

2) No matter what happens, don’t stop. Just keep going and incorporate it all, so you won’t lose your flow.

3) Talk about something you’re passionate about. Your excitement will carry you and it will draw in the interest of others.

4) Use your hands to hold the space and to “buy time” if you need it. When you’re not sure what you’re going to say next, use your hands as a segue until your next words come up.

5) Slow down. When you slow down, you step into your creative flow, and you come across as more confident.

6) Maintain your focus and eye contact (with the camera or person with whom you’re communicating).

7) Keep it as simple as possible.

8) Be playful, wild and creative. If you’re having fun, those watching you will be too.
