4 Practical Tips for Controlling Your Emotions to Achieve Success

Monitoring and controlling your emotions is one of the major keys to manifesting your desires and essential if you want to achieve success.

Everything is energy, and your emotions are energies that are capable of manifesting success or failure based on whether they are positive or negative and they are reflected in your speech, actions, and behaviors.

How you feel towards an issue or situation reflects on your ability to handle the situation effectively and achieve the outcome that you want.

Learning to master your emotions can help you deal positively with your failures and achieve success. Being able to leverage your emotional strengths successfully can help you achieve performance breakthroughs and cope with the challenges and adversity on your path to success which provide valuable experiences for learning and development.

Here are four ways you can manage your emotions to achieve success.

1. Become Aware of Your Emotions

The first step in mastering your emotions is to become aware of when you are overly emotional or overreacting. Start by monitoring your emotions and give each one a name. Sometimes you may find it difficult to identify precisely what it is you are feeling. By giving it a name, it can help you to gain clarity, which is an essential part of being able to move forward.

2. Discover the Why

After you've discovered how you are feeling, you need to discover why you are feeling it. What is triggering these emotions?

While there could be a million reasons, your mind will always try to look for the answer when you ask the question ‘why'. Most of the time, the way you're thinking about a situation will cause you to feel the way you do. Some of the reasons why we tend to feel negative emotions are that:

  • the situation doesn't meet our expectations,
  • our ‘inner critic' is creating negative thoughts,
  • the other people involved are being critical, difficult or negative.

You have to discover your ‘why' if you want to master your emotions.

3. Focus on the Solution

Now that you've discovered the ‘why' behind your emotions, you can start to find solutions to take back control and manifest your ideal outcome. Sometimes, it means simply changing the way you are thinking about the situation, while other times, merely understanding why you feel a certain way and a certain time will help to diminish the negative emotions. Your thoughts lead directly to the way you feel, so when you feel bad, it's most likely because you have a negative thought that is making you feel that way.

Instead of letting negative thoughts take over, switch your attention to what you can do to change the situation and the way you feel about it. If you focus on the problem you'll manifest more problems because energy flows where attention goes and we get what we focus on. Instead, look for the lesson or the opportunity in the situation. Challenges are what make us grow and develop and it's possible to gain from a challenging situation if we develop a positive perspective.

4. Choose Your Response

Choosing how you want to respond to a situation can be the hardest part of mastering your emotions. Our reactions and how we manage our feelings are a habit. Learning to listen to your feelings, identify them, understand them, and then choose them, is a continuous effort that can help you to overcome any challenge and achieve success.

Remember ‘The Power of Neutrality‘ – the universal law that nothing has meaning until we assign our interpretation to it and we have the power to adopt a positive attitude even in the most challenging situations. By doing so, inspired ideas about the solution to the problem will come to you.
