vedic astrology May 2015January is a busy month astrologically. At the beginning of the month, Mercury goes retrograde from January 5 to January 25, 2016. During the retrograde phase it’s a good time to review plans, research new ideas, and double-check all communications and travel plans. Choose your words carefully. This is a good time to go on retreat as our mind naturally focuses inward. Meditation and self-analysis are also positive activities.

Next, Jupiter goes retrograde from January 7 through May 9, 2016. Jupiter retrogrades every year for about four months, so this is a common event. During this time our sense of abundance is amplified and felt more internally. It can be easier to focus inwardly for spiritual answers, as we sense the knowledge that lies within us. Paying more attention to our “inner guru” is important as we seek our own truth.

An important and major planetary event occurs January 8, 2016 when the nodes of the Moon, Rahu and Ketu, shift signs. Rahu (north node) will move into the sign of Leo, while Ketu (south node) moves into the sign of Aquarius, staying in these signs until September 8, 2017. The nodes of the Moon are planets in Vedic astrology, and they carry great karmic impact, as they stay in their transiting signs about 18 months or so. We experience life lessons now involving the significations of the signs of Leo and Aquarius.

Leo and Aquarius are both fixed signs, meaning they give stability and staying power, but can also bring stubbornness, power struggles, and inability to change. With Rahu in Leo and Ketu in Aquarius – we are learning to balance an amplified sense of self (Rahu in Leo), with serving others and working for the greater good (Ketu in Aquarius).

Rahu transiting the fire sign of Leo brings increased ambition, unusual creativity, and inventiveness. We can experience an identity crisis of sorts, as we are challenged to uncover our true self-worth. On a lower level, this placement can bring self-absorption, drama, challenges with authority figures, and political intrigues.

Ketu transiting the air sign of Aquarius is spiritually-oriented, bringing an increased need for fairness, equality, and service to humanity. More interest in asceticism, retreat, or seclusion from worldly concerns is also possible. Watch for spending more of your time serving others’ causes that are not so heart-felt or true for you, rather than pursuing some of your own worth-while creative endeavors.

In an unusual event when Rahu moves in Leo January 8, it joins retrograde Jupiter already there, and both will be retrograde together until Jupiter goes direct on May 9, 2016. In addition, they conjunct at 29, 28, and 27 degrees Leo, and then still travel very closely together (within 2 degrees of each other) during the months of January and February. This Rahu and Jupiter conjunction creates guru chandala yoga, which brings increased interest in foreign, non-traditional, or alternative philosophies and studies, while it also can amplify material or worldly pursuits. It is wise with the Jupiter/Rahu conjunction to use discernment in money matters and investments and not over-extend.

Also while Rahu and Jupiter are in Leo, they will be aspected by Saturn in Scorpio, and this combination gives lessons in patience, self-discipline, and authenticity. We may experience some delays, restrictions, and limitations, but the final rewards can be deeper wisdom, maturing of the soul, and greater stability within ourselves.

Vedic astrology, the astrology from India, uses the sidereal zodiac, the zodiac of the fixed stars, which is based on an accurate astronomical view of the planets in the sky.

Lol, when am I not experiencing an identity crisis! Looks like it’s time to get serious about spending time in meditation (although technically I spent a lot of time in deep thoughts on the road)

It will affect me in no way as there is zero effect.
I’d like to ask you astrology people why isn’t the most dominant gravitational and electromagnetic source relative to earth is hardly ever the one cited as the biggest influence across the year.

retrograde is the best time of year for me as I was born in it. Feels like a calmness and more intensified introspection.
