Notice your thoughts, they lead to your emotions, words, and actions

There are choices we make every day that determine the level of consciousness we move through life with. To have a higher awareness of the connection between our thoughts, emotions, words, and actions is living with a higher consciousness.  To not be aware of this connection is the lower or even unconscious behavior.  Being more aware of your thoughts, emotions, words, and actions allows you to understand yourself and how you fit into the circumstances you are living in.

To have a lower level of consciousness is going to force you to be reactionary, defensive, and not understand why you are feeling this way.  The good news is that we can grow and develop a higher level of consciousness by practicing becoming more mindful of our thoughts and how they affect us.  I wanted to share 10 choices that can lead to a higher level of conscious thought. Your perception of the world determines your experience in it.

Do Things You Love Every Day

Every day we have choices of how to spend our time. Make time every day to consciously do things you love to do. In order to grow mentally, physically, and spiritually, there are many options. We choose them every day and the positive choices will move us closer to our true selves and others distract.  By doing what you love to do, you are clearly aware of who you are and what makes you great. We all have obligations, but making our development as people a priority, by drawing, playing music, creating something, working out, or doing something that allows us to become alive will make your life more enjoyable

Practice Truth and Honesty

It is often a part of human nature to be dishonest. This happens because we see it as a way to avoid pain of some kind.  Consciously tell the truth always and all things in your life will be more enjoyable, relationships will be better, and Life will be better. To be honest, raises your level of consciousness, to consciously tell a lie lowers it. Always choose honesty over falsehoods. Even when it is difficult to do so, the results of honesty are going to provide positive results in your life for what you stand for and what your life is about.

 Have an Open Mind

Being conscious of each situation you face and not to function at a low level of reaction is important.  Understanding the uniqueness of every situation and all people will allow you to accept those who are different and not to feel that something is wrong with them and they have to be anything other than who they are.  Try new things and seek new experiences and realize that you can always grow and become better at what you do and learn more about the way the world works. How you fit into the experience changes as you change your perspective of situations. Be conscious of having an open mind and allow the world to bring its best to you.

 Be Compassionate to Others

All people are doing the best they can. That is the beginning of compassion.  If you were placed in another person's

We are all connected, take time to be compassionate to others.

situation, you may be making the same exact decisions. Understanding that all people are another version of ourselves, separated by circumstances. Judgment comes less easily if you put yourself into the shoe's of another and walk around for a while.  Consciously practice compassion toward others, be more understanding and accept that on the inside we are all connected in our humanity. Judge less, love more, understand always.

Embrace Learning and Growing

Some people see learning as something you do when you are young and then take those limited experiences into life. A higher level of consciousness comes from embracing that learning is a constant part of life. You have opportunities to learn and grow as a person throughout your life. Each new piece of knowledge lead to a greater depth in yourself and add to your life experience.  Read new things, soak in new ideas and make the determination of their validity on your own.  Expand your mind and it will never shrink again. Conscious choices to learn and grow to make life a continually unfolding experience.

Learn to Accept Yourself

Sometimes the most difficult thing to do is to accept ourselves as we are. But this is the point where all change and acceptance happens.  We live in a society that continually points out our flaws, usually in order to sell us something.  People look past the beauty they possess and see the parts that need work only.  Sometimes it is the imperfections that provide our true unique attractiveness and should be embraced rather than seen as a weakness.  Don't let society dictate your level of self-esteem. Be conscious of your positive qualities and embrace them. Once you accept yourself the way you are, you can decide if a change is needed to be more healthy or to create a life that is more fulfilling. Those choices come from inside you, not because of outside influences.  Be conscious of how you look at yourself.

Be Aware of Love and Fear in Life

Be conscious of the continual choices you are making in your life between love and fear.  Many believe that life can be broken down into this continual and simple choice.  Consciously choosing the loving choice is to do things because of the value they bring to you and the world in a positive way. To choose fear is to allow the idea of what might go wrong dictate your behavior.  Having confidence that we can handle the results of our choices will make these choices easier. How do you want to live your life?  This is a basic part of our consciousness and it is formed in all the choices we make each moment of every day.  Choose wisely. Is it a choice of love or fear? Only you can answer that for you and your conscious reality.

Kindness First

The only person who can control the level of kindness we give to our lives is us. It doesn't cost a cent to be kind and it doesn't take any more effort. All it takes is the conscious effort we make to treat others with kindness.  This is a basic choice of our conscious existence and the area we can make a big impact on our lives and the lives of others.  Simply practice kindness first in all of our interactions and in this small way we are able to make the world a better place. When you are at work, practice kindness. When you are at home, practice kindness. When you are in the world anywhere, practice kindness.  One thing you can be sure of, the impact you have on other people will be defined by the level of kindness choose to share.  In all things, strive for kindness first, and the world will respond in kind.

Practice Gratitude Daily

Gratitude is the simple conscious choice to have an appreciation for what you have rather than looking at your life as incomplete because of what you don't have at this moment. There is always something to be grateful for in life. Simple things like having people to love, a place to live, the ability to move as you like, to have a mind that can think and reason or just being alive in this world of possibility all are things to be grateful for.  The conscious choice to be grateful also opens up your world for more great things to enter your life. Making a quick list of just a few things every day can create a conscious mindset of gratitude that will improve your experience of life and make you happier. The alternative is to focus on what you don't have, and what is focused on will become prevalent in your life.  It is your choice.

Practice Mindfulness

A simple practice of mindfulness will allow you to be more conscious. Simply, avoid the two robbers of our time and enjoyment, regrets about the past or worries about the future and stay in the moment you are in. This is an easy concept but difficult to understand.  By focusing on the past or the future we are taking ourselves out of the only moments we are guaranteed, the here and now. Life is a finite experience, all will end at some point. Keeping our consciousness in the present is difficult because there is a connection to our past that provides some of our identity. Take the lessons you learned from the past with you and leave the rest behind.

The same is true about worries of the future. They are an attempt to cover every base and create the illusion of control. But what happens tomorrow will more than likely be something you can never expect. So prepare as best you can by enjoying the moment you are given right now.  This conscious choice will allow you to enjoy your life more and see the joy most moments have within them, without being tainted by regrets from past experiences or worry about what might happen tomorrow.

Of course, there are many other ways to raise your level of consciousness in your own life. They all begin with the understanding that your thoughts lead to your emotions, words, and actions.  This means that by bringing the types of thoughts you entertain into your conscious awareness you can better control the experiences you have in life.  Follow these simple suggestions and see where they lead you.
