For many years, I was not aware of the healing powers of a musical instrument called the “didgeridoo” nor could I even pronounce the word. I would see people playing this instrument and wonder how much air it would take to blow into one of them. Only recently have I come to truly appreciate this amazing wind instrument. The sound tones and vibrations that the didgeridoo produces are very healing to the soul. When you sit and listen with your eyes closed, you feel like you are being taken back in time to the ancient ways of our long forgotten ancestors.
The Aborigines of Australia are very well known to have created this unique instrument and played it as an integral part of their ceremonial life for at least 2,000 years. Now the didgeridoo is played all around the world in other cultures.
Today, both genders play this beautiful instrument and a modern didgeridoo is usually conical or cylindrical. They measure from 3 to 10 feet in length – the longer the instrument, usually the lower the pitch. The didgeridoo is played with a circular breathing technique. Due to this special way of breathing it has been said to help with sleep apnea by strengthening muscles in the upper airway.
This past weekend, I attended my first sacred circle ceremony in Laguna Beach, CA that was facilitated by a shaman named Rafael Bejarano. We were part of a group of ten individuals, and each one of us took a turn laying down to have a soul healing via the sounds and vibrations from various musical instruments played by Rafael – including the didgeridoo. There were many profound experiences that occurred on this particular day and the room vibrated with incredibly high energy.
Personally, I had awareness that there were five multi-dimensional beings inside of me. While waiting my turn, I had a very difficult time laying down and being still. My heart was beating loud with excitement — I just wanted to jump up and dance to the magical sounds created by Rafael on four different didgeridoos, several different flutes, and a warrior drum.
Rafael also uses his beautiful voice in various ways. He becomes an ‘instrument’ himself, as “he is not just a performer but a tool for promoting a message of connection and greater possibilities for us all. His music fosters an environment in which to experience physical and emotional healing, creating a link between mind and body that allows us to tap into the potential of our hearts and uncover the possibilities within ourselves and one another.”
The above quote, which, from my experience rings true to me, is from Rafael’s website:
I highly suggest that everyone experience this type of ceremony at least once in your life. It is an amazing life changing experience you will not regret.
