Introduction: What Are Spirit Guides?
The notion of sprit guides is as old as culture itself. They have gone by countless different names throughout history and around the world. In Western culture, they are most commonly known as guardian angels.
Some may be tempted to snicker at this term, most likely from the pop culture image of a robed angelic being with wings and a harp. While it is indeed true that many perceive them as such, this is more the result of the individual’s perceptual filter, and is simply their interpretation of the energy in a way that is most comfortable to them.
Spirit guides are non-physical beings who can appear to us in many forms, but who have all agreed to play a supportive role in our development, and to take an active interest in our spiritual evolution and progress. They are always with us, and whether we consciously perceive them or not, they are constantly interacting with us on an energetic basis and through the mechanism of intuition. By consciously focusing our intent and clearing our mind of distraction, we can clear up any “static” on the proverbial lines of communication, and dialogue with these benevolent spirits more directly. More people on the planet have now figured this out than at any other time in recorded history and have begun to communicate consciously with their guides, discovering in the process an indispensable and inexhaustible supply of love and support from these invisible members of their spiritual team.
There are some who say that when we communicate with our guides, we are really just communicating with an aspect of ourselves. This is an equally valid interpretation, and will in no way affect the efficacy or usefulness of the relationship or its results.
Some of you may be quite skeptical at this point, and that’s understandable if you are new to the concept. But if you can keep an open mind, consider playing a game with yourself for one week and assume, for the sake of the exercise, that you are in fact surrounded by a team of intelligences eager to support you if you will only ask.
When you need help with something — perhaps when you have a bad day — ask your guides for support and love, then listen and be receptive to what you get. You will feel a wave of powerful and undeniable unconditional love, and know in that moment that you are supported. Or perhaps you have an upcoming job interview that you are nervous about. Again, ask your guides for support, and listen to the intuitive whisperings in your ear. You will be amazed at how the right words will start to flow, almost magically, as you find yourself knowing just the right things to say. Or even on a basic, more pragmatic level, your guides can be indispensable when it comes to finding lost keys, remote controls, or cell phones. I know how that sounds, but seriously, give it a try, and sure enough, the lost item will show up before you know it. And if you are just beginning to open a line of dialogue, your guides will be especially eager to demonstrate their presence to you and will tend to go the extra mile as a way of getting your attention. The results can astound you.
As you begin to acknowledge their presence and learn to trust them, your relationship with your guides will grow. Eventually, you will reach a point where you are aware of them almost constantly, where the lines of communication grow stronger every day. You will reach a point when you know that you are never alone, and that you always have the support you need to accomplish whatever has been put before you in your personal journey.
The following article is about practical etiquette and best practices when communicating with your guides, and learning how to trust in their spiritual assistance. It is short, sweet, and to the point, but the advice is great and highly recommended. Go on, give it a try. What do you have to lose?
Remembering to say thank you to our guides and helpers is important for the completion of the assistance they have given.
(By Madisyn Taylor | Daily Om) We may have become accustomed to asking for help from the unseen world—whether from angels, guides, or ancestral spirits—but sometimes we may forget to close our connection afterwards with a thank you. When we connect to these energies for assistance, it is much like a phone connection. Forgetting to close the conversation with a proper “goodbye” is like not hanging up. While that line is still connected, others can have trouble getting through, while in the meantime, batteries are being drained. Saying “thank you” is a way of releasing our concerns into trusted hands and getting out of the way so that the universe’s divine order can work on our behalf.
