The video that this article was written about has been removed for some reason (it was here: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=LHP7pcIPbWY).  Below are the notes from the video that was removed, followed by a four other videos with John Hagelin.

Particle physicist and TM leader John Hagelin discusses the unified field theory, meditation, and unity consciousness.

John Samuel Hagelin is an American particle physicist with a PhD in Unified Field Theory from Harvard, and the director of the Transcendental Meditation movement for the US.  He is now Professor of Physics and Director of the Institute of Science, Technology and Public Policy at Maharishi University of Management. He has conducted research into unified field theory and the Maharishi Effect.

After graduation from Harvard, Hagelin was a researcher at the European Organization for Nuclear Research (CERN) and later a researcher at the Stanford Linear Accelerator Center (SLAC).  Hagelin on what his research experiences taught him:

Particle accelerators are the modern microscopes that let you probe deeply into the structure of reality at smaller and smaller distances.  At smaller and smaller distances, we continually discover new things…  The deeper you probe, the simpler life becomes.  All of the complexity of the universe and hundreds of particles of fundamental particles of nature all simplify to become ultimately one.   That is what is called the discovery of the unified field or super-string field, which explores and derives and verifies the fundamental unity of life.

Hagelin on unity consciousness:

Through meditation, I’ve always experienced that at the core of life is unity, Samadhi, the transcendent, the field of consciousness, the field of inner being.  What is that, I asked myself?  What is that unity?  Finally, the world of physics, the world of science, is able to say:  Yes, the nature of life is unified -not on the surface, but deep within.  [It’s] the same unity that we experience deep within ourselves as our own pure consciousness – the state of Samadhi.  So, they do come together.  And that has been a very, very important discovery in my life:  the unification of the most ancient wisdom of the core unity of existence. You and I are one… We are all one at our core…

Some people innately feel it and this upwelling of love, which is really seeing the unity of oneself and others.  I wish more people had that feeling.  For many people, life is so divisive, you know: I’m not you.  I’m going to fight you, and all of that.  Lilou, we need more of the feeling of unity in life. Fortunately, through tools like transcending (going beyond mind to the experience of the source of mind, the source of thought, the field of unity within) will enliven the reality of unity within people, so that people begin to behave in a way that is motivated by unity and by love once we start to live the truth of the unity of life.

And that shift, we still need to make.  We’re starting to move in that direction as society.  But, we need a boost.  As a physicist, that’s why I’ve gotten involved now with meditation and bringing it to millions of people.

Hagelin on the effects that meditation has on the brain:

It’s amazing how the brain transforms.  Of course, we know that the brain is plastic anyway – the brain is constantly creating itself.  Any experience, good or bad, changes the brain.  But, there’s no experience that’s as powerful or as fundamental as transcending – going beyond thought to experience universal, immortal being, which is easier that it sounds. It really just takes a few minutes, maybe a couple of hours of training.  Then, [it only takes] a few minutes of practice to experience Samadhi – our own universal, immortal inner-self.

That experience completely changes the brain at the moment of transcending, which, again, you could experience in a few minutes of first learning to meditate.  The whole brain becomes synchronous, completely integrated, and coherent. Striking!  You never see this in waking, dreaming, sleeping, hypnosis or a drug-induced state: completely synchronous, harmonized.  And, what happens over time is that orderliness of the brain, that coherence, that harmonious, integrated functioning of the brain becomes permanent.
