We’ve now made our way up to the 7th chakra. Also known as the crown chakra, this center represents the most rarefied aspect of your energy field. Up here, it’s all about consciousness and spirit, so not surprisingly, the yoga pose related to this area is one of stillness.

Your lower chakras – 1, 2, and 3 – relate to the physical world, whereas your upper chakras – 5, 6, and 7 relate to the spiritual world. Your heart, of course, is the all-important bridge between these two worlds. That’s why we put so much importance on the heart chakra and the love that emanates from our hearts.

In the video above, I ask you to find the most comfortable position you can, and then, to meditate on your inner and outer worlds until the two start to merge in your consciousness. Pretty simple, huh?

And yet, it isn’t.

From years of working with yoga and life coach clients, I’ve found that the stillest poses tend to be the hardest for most people.

It takes real courage to be still with yourself; to really look within without flinching; without judging yourself.

Let me dispel a few myths about meditating right here, so you can get on with actually doing it.

MEDITATION MYTHS YOU CAN LET GO OF NOW (FOREVER):

1)   There is a “right way” to do meditation. Nope, not so. Just breathe and focus on the present moment and what is happening.

2)   You have to stop your thoughts when you meditate. Nope. Thank God. All you want to do is become AWARE of your thoughts. Notice them. Meditation is about awareness. As soon as you notice, “Oh, I’m thinking about work,” you’re in a state of higher awareness.

3)   You have to do it for a long time for it to work. I love short, frequent meditations. I think so many people never meditate because they can’t put aside a half-hour a day. It’s way better to do a little every day than none at all. Try 11 minute meditations. Why 11 minutes? I just like it because it’s a very “spiritual” number in numerology. If you prefer a different number (minimum 5 mins), try that.

So this completes my series of simple yoga poses for the chakras. Now, you can do a short little work out of about 30 minutes each day that boosts and balances ALL your chakras.

Let me know if you have any questions on how to do any of the poses or movements. Or share your experience of doing the whole series. I’d love to hear how it’s working for you.
