These days, it seems a week can’t go by that you don’t read some story about biased or outright racist actions by cops. I’m sharing this story as a sweet contrast.
When Stefan Grant, a rapper and music producer from Washington, D.C. known as STEFisDOPE recently rented a big home from Airbnb for he and his friends in a nice area of Georgia, the group got a big surprise — a visit from the local cops.
They were simply there to attend a music festival, but some neighbors thought they were robbers called 911.
Luckily, both the cops — and the rapper’s “posse” were super cool about the misunderstanding.
Stefan reported via his twitter account that the cops were chill and that he always makes the most of every situation.
According to Slate, Stefan jokingly added, It “wasn’t totally unexpected, we’re black kids in this ‘Leave it to Beaver’ neighborhood, you know?” He noted that the police were just doing their jobs and that they handled the incident well.
Also, the neighbor who called the cops apologized to the guys and said there had been recent robberies in the area.
Hats off to all parties involved: the neighbor who apologized, the local Dekalb County police who responded well, and Stefan and his friends who took the whole thing in stride.
This is what it looks like to make good of a potentially volatile situation, and we hope we can look forward to more of these kinds of non-incidences in the future.
