A Conscious Business Review by Jonathan Willbanks
If you’re like me, you might be getting tired of the standard entertainment fare of the mainstream film and TV studios. As my interests have broadened, films like Battleship and shows like Dancing with the Stars just don’t hold the same appeal for me anymore. As a result, I became what is known as a “cord cutter.” I canceled my cable subscription, and transitioned exclusively to on-demand streaming services like Netflix, Hulu, and Amazon Prime Instant Video — where I could watch what I wanted, when, where and how I wanted.
I am a fan of all of these services, but find them lacking in what I term ‘conscious media,’ — inspiring, uplifting, empowering, and informative entertainment. After exhausting their limited selection of conscious media, mostly documentaries, I found myself hungry for a new source of content. It was at this time that synchronicity brought a new service to my attention: Gaiam TV.
For a very reasonable subscription price of $9.95/month, Gaiam TV provides viewers with all-you-can-stream, on-demand, commercial-free access to thousands of conscious media titles. You can view them on practically any device, including your computer, iPhone, iPad, Android phone or tablet, and even your television through set-top boxes like the Roku player, or by simply connecting your laptop to your TV.
Their library is diverse and covers an immense amount of ground. Some examples include:
- Fitness: Access to dozens of Gaiam’s beautifully produced yoga and fitness videos, which individually retail for upwards of $15 each on DVD at stores like Target. If you’re like me and enjoy doing your workout and yoga sessions from the comfort of your home, this component of Gaiam TV’s video selection alone is worth the subscription price several times over.
- Health & Wellness: Health interviews, seminars, and documentaries from across the alternative health spectrum. Topics include diet and nutrition, healing programs for specific ailments, and optimal health lifestyle.
- Films & TV: Feature documentaries, conscious television series, and even a family and children’s selection
- Spirituality: Dive into a wide body of material on spirituality, religion, mind-body connection, and philosophy
- Metaphysics: Energy healing, channeling, hidden knowledge, and more
- Explorations: Topics include conspiracies, UFOs, free energy, nature, and plenty of other engaging content that doesn’t fit conveniently into the above categories.
- Conscious Media Network Library: Gaiam TV has partnered with Conscious Media Network to stream their entire library of hundreds of hours of original interviews and documentary content, all included with your subscription on-demand and ad-free.
There are several things I find remarkable about Gaiam TV. First is the extraordinary breadth and depth of their library. You could watch something new every night for five years and still not run out of interesting content — and they are adding new titles every month.
Second is the quality of the content, and this is a big factor in the alternative media landscape. There is a lot of interesting material floating around on the Internet, but often the quality, credibility, and production value leave much to be desired. Gaiam TV delivers a huge library of some of the world’s most cutting-edge visionaries and subjects, with a viewing experience and production values that rival studio films and high-end television broadcasts. This makes the viewing experience much nicer, and a lot more fun to watch with family and friends.
Finally — and this is what I admire most about Gaiam TV — is their courage to carry cutting-edge and at times controversial material that is generally deemed off-limits by mainstream media, who would instead prefer our attention be focused on the latest season of American Idol or angry talking heads on cable news. Gaiam is the only major corporation to provide this sort of substantive, empowering, informative material on a large scale and market it in a responsible, conscious manner. The Gaiam TV service represents, hands-down, the boldest and most ambitious library of alternative media ever assembled. And for less than 30 cents a day, you can watch as much of it as you want.
Gaiam TV has quickly become one of my favorite media sources, and I wholeheartedly recommend it to anyone seeking a superlative source of conscious entertainment.
We are proud to partner with Gaiam TV to provide you with a 10-day free trial of this outstanding service. Your subscription will support Gaiam’s groundbreaking work, as well as that of CLN.
