This video is the second in a series where we’re looking at the seven basic needs that play a big part in shaping who we are. If you haven’t yet watched the first video about your root chakra need, you can watch it here now.

In our first seven years of life, we’re primarily developing our root chakra and our foundation for life. But in each one of those first seven years, a secondary chakra is developing as well. In general, the age we are is the chakra that’s being developed like this:

Age 1 – Root Chakra

Age 2 – Sacral Chakra

Age 3 – Solar Plexus

Age 4 – Heart Chakra

Age 5 – Throat Chakra

Age 6 – Brow Chakra

Age 7 – Crown Chakra

In each one of these years, we have a basic, primary need that should be fulfilled. When it is, the chakra typically develops in a healthy way. If the basic need of that age/chakra is not fulfilled, though, then usually cope or compensate in some way. These forms of coping or compensation in our foundational years often become life-long limiting habits or beliefs – unless we shine light on them, and choose to re-parent ourselves, and get our needs met in a healing way.

In this video – the second of the series, we look at the basic need of the second (sacral) chakra.

If you didn’t see the first video on the basic need of the root chakra, you can watch it here.

The root and sacral chakras are basically, opposites. Because they are the lowest chakras in a world of duality, boosting one tends to take from the other, and vice versa. So, the key is to balance them as much as possible.

The need of the root chakra is safety and certainty. When we first come into this world, we’re only want to survive – eat, sleep and learn how to be in a body. We simply want to be a person and get our basic needs met. Routines of eating, sleeping and being nurtured help us to feel safe. But once we learn that the world can be safe and predictable, we then begin to need the opposite – uncertainty – or to put it in more positive terms – VARIETY.

The old saying, “variety is the spice of life” is about the sacral chakra. As we turn two and approach toddlerhood, we long for newness, change, play and a little adventure. We move from being focused solely on ourselves to being interested in the other. We want to play peek-a-boo and giggle. We want to look at novel things and feel different emotions.

What was your life like at age two? Were you played with? Was their variety? Were your different emotions accepted and allowed? The time between our second and third birthday is when we learn to respond to another and to life. We become like water and learn how to adapt.

Or we don’t.

There are two different ways that the sacral chakra can be out-of-balance.

If it is under-active, we tend to under-value it’s importance. In other words, we make our need for variety, play and change, unimportant. We may avoid our emotions, intimacy and especially, change. Our life can get boring and seem like all work and no play.

If the sacral energy is over-active, we tend to make it too important. We may choose to create so much change in our life that we have no stability at all, and we may allow our emotions to run out of control like a drama Queen or King, or we may feel that we only exist when we’re in a romantic relationship.

What we want to do is balance these two tendencies so that we can have stability and change, be in a relationship or on our own, and able to fully feel and express our relationships without feeling that they are out of control.

Does that make sense?

If you’re sacral energy is under-active, consider doing some inner work with your two and a half year old toddler. Go within and give her or him lots of love and support – and variety. Play and encourage her or his emotions.

If you have a picture of you from that age, put it on your bedside and be a companion to your own little self.

Other options are to have play dates with yourself – schedule them once a week and stick to them. Do only fun, fresh stuff.

Or connect with the kids in your extended family and let them show you what it means to play and be spontaneous and allow for lots of variety.

Also, it’s good for you to seek out movies or activities that will allow yourself to feel your emotions more (for me, it’s mushy movies like “Terms of Endearment.”)

If, on the other hand, your sacral energy tends to be overactive, do lots of root chakra work. Create habits and structure in your life, and ground yourself frequently.

For both chakras, I recommend wearing my Chakra Boosters Healing Tattoos™. And I recommend that you even allow them to overlap on your lower back like two links of a chain. Just put the root tattoo as low as you can on your back and then put the sacral chakra so that the bottom of it goes an inch or so over the root. This tends to support balance between them.

In any case, enjoy the dance of stability and change, habit and variety in your life.

We all need both!

Love and blessings,

Vicki
