Copenhagen On Track to Be Carbon Neutral by 2025

Lord Mayor Frank Jensen of Copenhagen recently announced that the city is on track for 2025 carbon neutrality. If measures implemented to reach this important milestone are successful, Copenhagen would be the first city in the world to do so. Intrepid residents of Denmark’s capital already bike in even the most frigid winter weather, significantly greening up the transportation sector, but a host of other initiatives have been put in place to make the city even more energy-efficient so that a goal of zero carbon emissions can be reached by 2025.

Speaking at a presentation at the New York Chapter of the American Institute of Architects (AIA), Copenhagen’s mayor said that retrofitting existing buildings is even more important than fitting out new buildings with energy- and water-saving devices. Other measures for slashing the city’s collective footprint include even more green transportation options, rainwater harvesting and reuse, district cooling and improving the thermal performance windows and insulation.
Mayor Jensen traveled to San Francisco and also met with New York’s Mayor Bloomberg to compare notes on everything from clean transportation to global warming and adaptation…
