With Syria allegedly crossing his red line, President Obama has opened a can of worms that will destroy his presidency and possibly destroy this country. Obama announced late last week that the US intelligence community had just determined that the Syrian government had used poison gas on a small scale, killing some 100 people in a civil conflict that has claimed an estimated 100,000 lives. Because of this use of gas, the president claimed, Syria had crossed his “red line” and the US must begin to arm the rebels fighting to overthrow the Syrian government.
While the US and its allies claim they have chemical clues against President Assad, news and reports on the ground suggest quite the opposite. Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov also stated that he felt there would be no point whatsoever for the Syrian army to resort to such tactics
If we think at all about our government’s military depopulating territory that it desires, we usually think of the long-ago replacement of native Americans with new settlements during the continental expansion of the United States westward.

Mairead Maguire: Report and Appeal to the International community to support a process of dialogue and reconciliation in Syria between its people and Syrian government and reject outside intervention and war.
Abby Martin takes a look back at the anniversary of Bush’s ‘mission accomplished’ debacle and the fall of Saigon, drawing parallels between the Vietnam and Iraq wars, and the government manipulation of facts that led the US into these deadly conflicts.
Sadly, we have been conditioned to believe that the job of the government is to keep us safe, but in reality the job of the government is to protect our liberties. Once the government decides that its role is to keep us safe, whether economically or physically, they can only do so by taking away our liberties. That is what happened in Boston
Why has the Department of Homeland Security (DHS) purchased 1.6 billion rounds of ammunition including hollow-point rounds (forbidden by international law in war), and a large amount for specialized snipers. This would be enough to sustain a war in America for more than 20 years…less than 6 million rounds a month were used at the height of the Iraq war.
Congressman Timothy Huelscamp revealed this week that the Department of Homeland Security has refused to answer questions from “multiple” members of Congress regarding its recent purchase of huge amounts of weapons and ammunition.
The manual is the first attempt to set out how international law applies to online attacks by the state… [and] says Governments must avoid attacks on civilians, hospitals, nuclear power stations, dams and dykes.
The United Nations has stepped in and is demanding the US stop conducting unmanned airstrikes in Pakistan. The UN is calling the drone program a violation of the country’s sovereignty and the attacks are being carried out without the consent of the people of Pakistan.
Soldier Bradley Manning can be heard in his own voice explaining why he sent hundreds of thousands of classified documents to Wikileaks in 2010. In a new leaked audio recording from his court martial, Manning accuses the American army of not valuing human life, and says he wanted to provoke a debate about US foreign policy.
The Denver Post, on February 15th, ran an Associated Press article entitled Homeland Security aims to buy 1.6b rounds of ammo, so far to little notice. It confirmed that the Department of Homeland Security has issued an open purchase order for 1.6 billion rounds of ammunition. As reported elsewhere, some of this purchase order is for hollow-point rounds, forbidden by international law for use in war, along with a frightening amount specialized for snipers. Also reported elsewhere, at the height of the Iraq War the Army was expending less than 6 million rounds a month. Therefore 1.6 billion rounds would be enough to sustain a hot war for 20+ years. In America.
Rand Paul may deserve to be called a hero for standing up against John Brennan’s nomination to CIA director based on his and Obama’s stance that Americans could be killed by drones on American soil.
For the first time ever, a senior US senator has publicly announced the number of victims of America’s ever expanding drone war — and apparently it’s even bigger than some independent researchers have suggested. Senator Lindsey Graham (R-South Carolina) put a number on the United States’ growing tally of kills caused by Uncle Sam’s arsenal of drones at 4,700.
